As time go past, maybe license to carry wouldn’t be a bad idea now.

too many people have the feel of need to rob the community of their hard earned possessions.

It is my understanding that the Cayman Islands is one of the safest places in the Caribbean and that our police service is one of the highest funded (based on the size of the population) in the Caribbean.

If the above statement is true then I would think that we might need to review our approach to dealing with crime (and the related social issues) and the competence of our political and policing leadership.

I have witnessed a notable increase in violent crime over the years. This increase appears to have resulted in the police service increasing their personal security while at the same time leaving the citizens of the country as defenseless as ever. This can’t continue and we need to accept the fact that the police can’t be everywhere all of the time and that an individuals personal security is primarily their responsibility.

More security cameras is the answer. Cameras don’t take vacation or sick days, and there is no need for health insurance or retirement plans.

In London or New York they can go back and track where the criminals were for miles before the crime, and quite often where they went after.

We can’t have police in every possible crime location, but there is no excuse for not using technology to help solve crimes. And anyone concerned about invasion of their privacy in public places can stay home.

We are one of the most surveilled nations on earth here in the UK and believe me more cameras do not stop crime.

Security cameras are a reactivate form of security. What is needed are more proactive forms of security.

I’d like the anonymous person who posted a week or two ago that there’s not much gun crime in Cayman only one or two incidents a year????? Is he blind, in denial or just plain stupid!!! He/she obviously is not paying attention to the News reports. There’s not a week goes by that there isn’t an armed crime on this island. I’ve never in all my years as a Police Officer seen such crime in such a small island as this. Saying we need to live in Chicago or New York for such crimes, but these places in comparison are far more larger than a postage size stamp that Cayman is, and it doesn’t make it right. Any non Caymanian that is convicted of any crime should be deported instantly! There’s enough home grown trash here as it is. It’s got so bad and out of control regarding these unlicensed firearms that I feel extra forces need to be brought in to eradicate this constant threat. Maybe consideration should be given for the British Forces to come and do a crack down of all known criminals and source these weapons. As good as RCIPS is, in fairness, they haven’t the manpower with all the other crimes to contend with to be on top of everything. There’s a lot of people on this island who know a lot of what us going on around them but too afraid to come forward. This is what the anonymous phone line is for people. It could be your child, parent or sibling that is the next victim of gun crime next. How would you feel then? …….do the right thing!

Stop ranting. Maybe if we got Caymanians good paying jobs from the get go then we could avoid a lot of this mess.

Oh please! These criminal minds are not really looking for jobs, good or otherwise. Stop finding excuses for them is what you should do.

British forces can hardly keep up with their own crimes- have you read the British news lately?. Don’t look to.BBC America to see the reports, they do not cover much in their reports, just go online to the newspapers. I also do not think they need more manpower, as far as I can see, manpower is being increased yearly. If People who know something would say something will go a long way in curbing these crimes.

I agree not enough beat officers on island. The police heads needs to get out of the office and touch the road work for their pay. But mean while anyone of these lil p@$$y boys attempt to rob me or etc. mark my words before you attend the scene robbery or whatever it may be, you better call the ambulance for them. And don’t think about charging me for GBH/ABH, because I will save the Gov’t atleast 80k per year at HMP….just saying I am getting sick of it.
