(CNS): Police are looking for a tall, thin, light-skinned man who attempted to sexually assault a woman out walking on Sunday morning in North Side. The woman was on Old Robin Road sometime between 6:00am and 6:30am when she was approached from behind by an unknown man, who pushed her to the ground and attempted to force himself on her. But the would-be attacker was disturbed by the sound of a vehicle and she was able to run away.

The woman was not physically injured in the incident. The suspect, who reportedly fled on a bicycle after the incident, was described as being tall and slim, of light complexion, wearing khaki shorts and an off-white shirt.

Officers investigating the report are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or seen anything suspicious in the area between 6am and 6:30am on Sunday, 11 August, to come forward.

Police said they are particularly interested in speaking with the occupants of the vehicle that appeared to have passed nearby during the incident. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Bodden Town CID at 947-2220.

I am glad this woman escaped without dire physical harm. Her emotional trauma will likely continue for some time. Imagine living in a world in which you didn’t feel safe. That is what this woman has to live with. If I were her, I would decide upon a chemical composition that had a lot of capsicum and perhaps more than a bit of ammonia, and I would load it into a small handheld pump sprayer.

This crap has become ridiculous. We MUST protect each other and ourselves. I had a conversation with an RCIPS officer, and I suggested that I might start walking around with a walking stick………. no point on the end, just a stick. This officer suggested to me that if an attempted mugging occurred and I beat them senseless with my walking stick, that I might face charges of excessive force.

I don’t care about excessive force anymore. If someone starts something with me, I will finish it and face a jury or judge.

To the woman that was attacked, I am so sorry you had to go through this. You have been very brave, and I wish someone could have sooner come to your aid. We have to all stick together during these troubled times, and protect one another. I hope you can once again feel safe. I am so sorry. Consider therapy if you feel that your world has drastically changed. Much peace I wish you.

Get the video from Ezzard’s cameras. How many people ride bicycles in North Side at 6am? Or any other time of the day for that matter.

Don’t be ridiculous 8.19am!! The Police can only act upon the description of what the victim can tell them. How could she possibly know l, unless a professional cyclist, the type of bicycle this perpetrator was riding? She was obviously in shock with the whole incident and thankfully still alive. She stated the skin colour of this guy, the approximate height and the clothing he had on. What more could she say? She wasn’t sitting down to a meal with him!! ….Someone knows who he is.

This is why women should be allowed to carry pepper spray or tasers! At least something to protect themselves during situations like this.

For the love of Pete, can the police please grow some self-respect and take a 5 minute course on how to take proper incident reports, or Google how to do police work!? Tall white guy from the Gap riding a bike. Does anyone ask if it was a carbon fiber triathlon bike, a mtn bike, a coastal cruiser, or resort branded bike? Colour of bike? Come on guys, let’s at least pretend we want to catch this pervert instead of shielding our weirdos behind your vocational incompetence.

So you assume the police don’t ask these questions and that the woman can clearly remember specific details of a bicycle she may have only seen glimpses of as she fled from an attempted sexual attack?

I mean, you understand that the only descriptions the police have are what victims provide, and that victims might be otherwise preoccupied at the time of an incident and not immediately be trying to commit minute details of an offender’s appearance to memory right?

I get the frustration but the police can’t make up descriptions. That would be worse than incompetence.

Victim blaming/shaming, seems to be so much easier than being a professional transcriber, asking a victim/witness to remember, and pulling descriptive info, according to competent police protocols, from a willing party. The transient colour of shorts one morning is far less helpful than, say, physical identifiers like existence, colour, density and type of hair.

Did the perp have a face? Eyes, lips, nose, ears? Did he have any distinguishing features or scars, or head/facial or body hair, tattoos? Was there a belt or drawstring on shorts? Estimated height, age? Musculature? Any accent? Voice pitch? Glasses? Did he stagger, limp, seem sober, and/or smell of booze at 6am, or wear shoes? Direction of travel on flight?

If this is the best the RCIPS can do, it really demonstrates critical training/intelligence gaps within the force (and maybe we already knew that). Every cop should know how to take a comprehensible incident or witness report, after the first week of training as a matter of professional duty and protocol.

A police officer friend of mine from the US and I had a conversation about something like this. I was asking him about why people don’t give more description of guns used in crimes and he summed it up quite nicely and the same applies to this poor woman’s lack of description. “When you are being robbed at gun point and someone has a gun in your face, most people will say it was a gun or a big gun. Why? You are so focused on the gun in your face that everything else is of no importance except the gun.”

Same applies here, getting away from this creep was this woman’s main focus, she wasn’t going to stop and play a game of 20 questions or ask him for a selfie. And to you’re asinine comment about what kind of bike it was. Ever thought that maybe she doesn’t know the difference in bikes to know what type? and do you honestly think the color of the bike was so important on her mind to have her stop and find out what color it was?
