Police warn public over ‘fake cop’
(CNS): The RCIPS has issued a warning that someone has been posing as a member of its service and accepting complaints and corresponding with members of the public about police matters using a fake email address. Police said that Bodden.lason@rcips.ky is not a real email address and there is no one working for the service by that name. A spokesperson for the police said the matter is under investigation but it is not yet clear what the objective of the fake email is.
“If you receive any correspondence from this email address, we advise that you do not respond or click on any links that you may receive, but instead report the matter to the police immediately,” the police stated.
The police advised members of the public that it does not have a complaints unit at its headquarters in Elizabethan Square in George Town but that the Professional Standards Unit is in Windjammer Plaza, Walkers Road. Complaints can also be made through the Office of the Ombudsman, located on Anderson Square, George Town, as well as police stations.
Q1. Whose IT manager credentials were used to establish “Bodden.lason@rcips.ky” on the RCIPS email server? If hosted on their own *.ky server, presumably they have all of the correspondence…this isn’t that hard of a “who dunnit” to solve! What else did they do with those IT credentials? #amateurhour #facepalm
You know that email addresses can be spoofed right? Nah, you probably don’t
I saw this email on a friends PC and in looking it over the email address is spoofed and the link in the email points to a different address than displayed as well. Simply just delete the email and don’t open any documents which may be attached to it.
Fake email addresses don’t work…sounds like a real email address with a spoofed RCIPS header, either that, or the RCIPS IT Dept has been hacked. Do they know the difference?!? Why not tell people exactly what to watch for?

Agree, this is severely problematic. The format and extension of the “fake” email address is exactly that of the real RCIPS; all of the contacts at RCIPS are ________.____@rcips.ky.
I bet they can do a better job than many real cops!
