Euro heatwave melting Greenland

The ice is melting rapidly in Greenland

(CNS): Scientists working in Greenland who are measuring ice sheets and collecting important data for the northern European country are alerting the world about the massive melting taking place there after the heatwave that hit the UK and continental Europe moved north. Danish Meteorological Institute, the official weather service of Greenland, said “almost all the ice sheet” measurably melted on Tuesday.

Professor Jason Box said that melting on the northwestern Greenland ice sheet was 1.2 times that of the previous record melt in 2012. Downhill, meltwater was seen streaming off the edge of the ice sheet and scientists posted on social media videos of a rushing torrent of water, as people became concerned about flooding in inhabited areas of the country.

The record-setting heatwave in Europe moved north over the vulnerable ice sheet, bringing temperatures that are 25 to 30°F warmer than normal. On Tuesday the temperature surpassed 75°F in some regions of Greenland, and a weather balloon launched near the capital Nuuk measured all-time record warmth just above the surface.

That heatwave was expected to peak today, Thursday 1 August, with more than 12 billion tons of water permanently melting from the ice sheet and flowing into the oceans, irreversibly raising sea levels globally.

Scientists say that since 2003, the melt rate on Greenland’s ice sheets has more than quadrupled. Just this week it is expected to lose about 50 billion tons of ice, fuelling a global sea level increase of about 0.1mm, making the total loss for July to be almost 200 billion tonnes. That in turn means a 0.4mm increase in global sea levels in just one month, from just one place, illustrating the severity and impending dangers of global warming.

So 12:18, you are going to go with an Australian climatologist who just graduated this year, from a largely unknown Australian university, rather than the thousands of NASA and West European climatologists who stated yesterday that July was the hottest month in history and who statistically have shown that global warming is occurring rapidly.

We’re Due For Another Ice Age But Climate Change May Push It Back Another 100,000 Years, Researchers Say
    By Ada CarrMarch 27 2017 12:00 AM EDTweather.com

Throughout our planet’s 4.5 billion years, there have been five big ice ages, some of which lasted hundreds of millions of years. Researchers are still trying to understand how often these periods happen and how soon we can expect another one.

“We should be heading into another ice age right now,” Columbia University paleoclimate doctoral student Michael Sandstrom told Live Science.

The big ice ages account for roughly 25 percent of the past billions of years on Earth, says Sandstrom. The most recent of Earth’s five major ice ages in the paleo record dates back 2.7 million years and continues today.

Sea Level Rise on the Inner Continental Shelf of the West Coast of Florida
By J.M. Adovasio, Expedition Principal Investigator – Mercyhurst University
and C. Andrew Hemmings, Expedition Principal Investigator – Mercyhurst University

    https://oceanexplorer.noaa.gov/explorations/12newworld/background/sealevel/sealevel.html

The maximum amount of water trapped in glacial ice occurred roughly 26,000 years ago. This point in time is referred to as the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM). At the time of the LGM, the Earth’s ocean levels were at their lowest point and extensive reaches of dry land were exposed along the continents’ coasts. As the glaciers began to melt, sea level rose worldwide, resulting in nearly a 10% reduction of the Earth’s entire landmass. In the Northeastern Gulf of Mexico, this translates to the inundation (covering with water) of more than 350,000 km2 of what had been dry land, which in turn forced the relocation of plants, animals, and — what is of primary interest to our research — people.

Compared to today, LGM Florida encompassed twice its present land area and was probably slightly cooler and dryer. Furthermore, Florida’s Pleistocene landscape was not as extensively traversed by rivers as it is today. Instead, groundwater was much deeper in the rock and closer to the coasts, as it ran to its lowest level. Typically the greatest amount of surficial fresh water is within 10km of the ocean coastline.

    20,000 Years of Transition
It took over 20,000 years for the sea to transition from the LGM shoreline up to the modern coast of Florida. As ocean water covered the ancient landscape from about 26,000 to 5,000 years ago, several distinct and profound changes occurred simultaneously: the landmass of Florida became greatly reduced with significant changes to the contours of the state’s coastlines; the surficial water aquifer and deeper Floridian aquifer became elevated; weather patterns changed; and biotic (i.e., plant and animal) communities rearranged themselves on the landscape, with some species flourishing, others staying the same, and several (like the mastodon) becoming extinct.

Generally speaking, the transition to present-day Florida witnessed an increase in the number of springs and rivers, the climate became somewhat warmer and wetter, greater numbers of trees flourished on the landscape, species that had once been widely dispersed instead became concentrated in favored areas for survival, and some animals became extinct.

An important consequence of these changes for early human populations was that food and fresh water were no longer available in the same places from generation to generation, although on a yearly basis the conditions for human life were still relatively stable, if probably somewhat less so than today.

During the height of the last ice age, global sea level was about 400 feet lower than today.
After the last ice age ended approximately 20,000 years ago, sea level rose rapidly,2 but for the last few thousand years has been rising very slowly3 and has been almost stable for the last 4-5 thousand years.4 Importantly, this recent era of stability encompasses the history of human civilization, meaning significant global sea-level rise is truly unprecedented in human history.

What Did the Continents Look Like Millions of Years Ago?
    Geoff Manaugh and Nicola Twilley

The paleo-tectonic maps of retired geologist Ronald Blakey are mesmerizing and impossible to forget once you’ve seen them. Catalogued on his website Colorado Plateau Geosystems, these maps show the world adrift, its landscapes breaking apart and reconnecting again in entirely new forms, where continents are as temporary as the island chains that regularly smash together to create them, on a timescale where even oceans that exist for tens of millions of years can disappear leaving only the subtlest of geological traces.
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Don’t panic, the world is not ending, just changing as it has done since God created the heavens, or the big bang occurred. Whichever is your version. Living in Grand Cayman which has been growing since the beginning of time out of the ocean floor will continue to grow upward and expand outward as those of us old enough can attest to. Will it be covered by the ocean once again or will it rise further above the sea as it once was? No one reading this will be alive to know what is going to be the outcome or how it will change over the next million years.

Enjoy life day to day and be the best person you can be. Don’t fight with friends and neighbors over what has been going on since the earth was formed. Science cannot change what is to come, and money cannot stop or change it. It is bigger than all of us just as history proves. Live your life without fear and prepare in your own way.

Here we go again with the RELIGION of global warming, AKA “The 97% Cult”

    CNS:
The nonsense in this column, written ten years ago, has long been debunked. It was written by Christopher Brooker, a journalist and columnist, not a scientist of any kind, who died earlier this year aged 81. He also denied that asbestos was harmful and that second-hand smoke was harmful, and he rejected evolution for good measure. Here is a more recent article in the Telegraph, if that is your newspaper of choice.

Of course you would find “an article” countering the person credibility opposed to dealing with the content of the article.

CNS: I didn’t “find an article” about the author, I told you who he was. You have a tendency to post links without, I suspect, actually reading them. You certainly don’t seem to look at who is writing them or when. Acceptance of anthropogenic global warming has increased over the last ten years.

And interestingly, I notice you ignored the YouTube video created by a PhD in “Climatology”. And I’m sure you didn’t bother to view ANY the series of videos he clearly debunks this religion with absolute clarity. I supposed it does not satisfy the leftist narrative does it?

CNS: As to the video, the narrator is Freeman Dyson, aged 95. He is, or was, an eminent theoretical physicist and mathematician but not a climatologist and has been roundly criticized for his stance on climate change, which is is not in his field of expertise. 97% of scientists means that you can find scientists on the fringes but does not detract from the overwhelming consensus. I love how you think that all the climate change skeptics are “real scientists” but the 97% of scientists who agree (which includes virtually 100% of climatologists) are all slackers or frauds. I’m sure you’ve spent many hours watching YouTube videos.

I’m sure you also chose to ignore (as good journalists do) the many other videos of _actual scientists_ completely debunking man-made global warming. Instead you much rather _BELIEVE_ The 97% (https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/1748-9326/8/2/024024)

CNS: This is a very typical example of what you do. You’ve googled something and left the link without reading it because you believe it supports your world view. If you bothered to actually read it, you’d find it does the opposite. Here is the conclusion in part: “The situation is exacerbated by media treatment of the climate issue, where the normative practice of providing opposing sides with equal attention has allowed a vocal minority to have their views amplified (Boykoff and Boykoff 2004) … The narrative presented by some dissenters is that the scientific consensus is ‘…on the point of collapse’ (Oddie 2012) while ‘…the number of scientific “heretics” is growing with each passing year’ (Allègre et al 2012). A systematic, comprehensive review of the literature provides quantitative evidence countering this assertion … Among papers expressing a position on AGW, an overwhelming percentage (97.2% based on self-ratings, 97.1% based on abstract ratings) endorses the scientific consensus on AGW.”

As for your bizarre demands that we write a scientific paper to answer your questions below, try reading what the scientists write without an Alex Jones-type aversion to what they are finding. Just read this from NASA – there are links to science papers at the bottom if you really want to read science. If you are actually interested in the answers to your questions, you’ll find them. If you just want to go off on another bonkers rant, I’m sure you’ll find more YouTube videos to fuel them.

Why don’t you, instead of hiding behind the 97% oracle, answer (or find answers to) precise questions with regard to Global Warming/Man-Made Global Warming?
1- What is the correct/optimal temperature of the globe? Please give the measurements globally.

2- What is the correct/optimal amount of atmospheric Co2? We know as scientific fact this has varied from low 100’s to 7000 PPM. And the atmosphere did perfectly well in all of these conditions. We also know that coral reefs and just about all plants enjoy Co2 level as high as 1500PPM. This an indisputable fact, which is why cannabis growers for example love to grow their plants of high Co2 environments. Because plants LOVE Co2 as high as 1700PPM

3- Please explain if Co2 is the leading cause of global warming, why does it lag temperature rises by 200-800 years? I see leftists continually avoid this scientific fact.
4- Please precisely specify the ratio of the influence of the Sun on the earth atmosphere vs man-made atmospheric changes? Please give the percentages (Good luck with this)

5- Please use the SCIENTIFIC METHOD https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_method and apply falsifiability to man-made global warming https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falsifiability (You can’t)

6- Please specify what the global temperature and atmospheric greenhouse gases SHOULD BE, if humans were not around. You must know this to determine humans are negatively affecting the globe otherwise you’re just full of it.

7- Pease explain what causes the Co2 level to exceed 7000PPM during the Cambrian period, and please explain what lowered them to 130 PPM.

Please use scientific data not leftist hyperbole and narratives.

Or let me guess, we should just all BELIEVE in the 97% god shouldn’t we? Who are we to be skeptical of the 97% oracle? Only flat earthers would question the oracle right?

Looking forward to your scientific answers, and also please point me to the scientific theory (not group opinion) of man-made global warming.
