(CNS): Department of Environmental Health Director Richard Simms, Assistant Director-Solid Waste Michael Haworth and Acting Foreman Owen Henry got a little closer to the garbage they manage last week when they went on the rounds and experienced the daily struggles of the department’s waste collectors. The managers went on the road after the schedule had once again fallen behind, as the DEH struggles to keep collection on track.

I think an experienced waste management team needs to be brought in from the U.K. to supervise this operation. Clearly this is not been addressed in the correct manner.

Can we get Dwayne “big boi” Seymour an air conditioned truck? If so he might just drive one of the routes so long as that route includes rubbish collection at Vic’s and Country Western.

What is it they aim to discover on these road trips?. They need to encourage residents to do more recycling and also actually recycle on site. I understand ( don’t know if true) that once the garbage reaches their compound that it is not systematically separated. I would also like to know exactly what type of refuse is being sent off island for recycling by DEH, and how successful it has been. I saw a worker down in the dumpsters by Fosters at Countryside, picking up the loose items that had been thrown in the bins and throwing them in the back of a small pickup truck. I felt sorry for him and don’t believe that he would have taken those items off the truck and carefully sort them in separate containers for recycling., if so it would have been more efficient t odors at the dumpster. I fully realise that it is a thankless job and believe it is hard to motivate the workers to do the work so there has to be a more efficient way of handling garbage. I also see some of them picking up in my area without gloves and masks! Are those items part of their uniforms?

Can they PLEASE fix the garbage trucks so they don’t spill gallons of garbage juice all over the roads!? It’s disgusting and a threat to public health!
