(CNS): Police said that a cyclist riding a black bicycle, described as between 5’10” and 6’ tall, with a light complexion, wearing a black short-sleeved shirt, long black pants and a red hat over his face mugged a woman Thursday night. The woman was walking on Mount Pleasant Road in West Bay, near to Vibe Lane, around 10pm when the mugger came up behind her on a bike and tried to take her phone.

Police said the woman managed to keep hold of the phone but the man, whom she did not know, then grabbed a chain from her neck and rode off on the bicycle in the direction of Meadow Avenue.

The woman was not injured during the incident and the matter is now under investigation. Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area around 10pm and saw anything suspicious to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact West Bay CID at 649-3999. Anonymous tips can be provided to the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777, or website. Tips can also be submitted anonymously via the Miami-based call centre of Crime Stoppers at 800-8477(TIPS), or online.

Make it be known he was holding a lil spliff in his hand and he’d be caught before the day is out. SMH! Priorities!

There are about 5 side roads between Vibe Lane and Meadow Ave, he could have turned into any of these roads or went pass Meadow Ave.

Bring Singapore law here pronto. if that would happen, (which it won’t for fear of losing votes), the same people that says something got to be done would kick against it. That’s why nothing will ever be done about crime in Cayman.

The reason for our high crime rate is because the punishment for lawbreakers is too light. Whose fault is that?

And what do we do about the Caymanians who commit crime? Where do we send them? You’re gonna need a bigger jail….

More importantly, what do you do with a Bay-Island Honduran with a Caymanian accent that has gone through the whole school system treated as a Caymanian, but is not?

The constant crime on this island is unbelievable and way out of hand! There seems to be no deterrent to alleviate it in any way. It’s become so serious now that it’s not safe to walk the roads day or night. What kind of society are we bringing up our children in. It’s frightening! It’s time the penalties for any kind of criminal offence needs to be reviewed so that these scumbags will think twice of committing these crimes. For a start, any criminal offence committed by a non Caymanian should be immediately sent back to his country of origin, but just not him/her but the whole family. I think that would make a big difference in the way these people are brought up. They need to be living in some Middle Eastern countries. The penalties are extremely severe. I, as a woman, travelled alone for a vacation in Dubai and was able to walk the streets even at night without any fear whatsoever. Something has to be done because if it carries on tourism will definitely be affected and this is what keeps this island afloat.

The constant lights on their cars are a recent thing. They didn’t have them before and still could solve crap!

Bike safety and common sense, have little in common with cracked-up muggers stealing necklaces for drug money. Would the mugging outcome have improved had there been a bike light? Lack of addiction intervention and drug rehab is at the root of this, not bike lights.

So let me get this right, there will be no muggers if they had to have a light on their bicycle?
      What a truly dumb statement.
