This government has no interest in helping the legitimate business owner or the hard-working, law-abiding people of this island.

They are purely concerned with turning this place into concrete and pandering to their Overlord (Dart) and the select group of wealthy families and developers.

You cannot allow Joe public firearms. It’ll be like giving whisky to the indians. Whilst I fully understand your frustration, and indeed nervousness of feeling unsafe in your own homes, we all need to upgrade our home security as a must to start with. Be mindful of how this island has changed when it comes to crime over the years and I hate to say, not for the better. Therefore, be extra careful of walking the streets after dark and certainly do not carry cash of large amounts especially home from your business. Who does that? Banks have night safes so you can deposit your cash externally if they are closed. If they haven’t got this facility as do other countries, they certainly need to up their game. Maybe vary your time of returning home or use different routes. Having a good guard dog isn’t a bad idea around your home either. Burglars are known to hate dogs …they make too much noise and alert the homeowner….and their bite isn’t welcoming either. I know it shouldn’t be, but we all have to take some responsibility and taking care of ourselves and property is top priority these days. The Government needs to allow the highest possible extent of the law if these perpetrators are to pay for these crimes upon conviction. These scumbag criminals are here to stay people. This island is not exclusive to crime, but I have to say there’s a high amount of it on a daily basis compared to similar countries of this size. This is a rich island not a third world country where people will kill for a loaf of bread!

Get a life Bertie for Gods sake!! It’s always been a harmless saying and if you ever looked at cowboy movies when red Indians got their hands on, and consumed whiskey they went bananas. That’s the worry you’d have if every inexperienced Tom, Dick and Harry were able to buy firearms over the counter like buying sweets. It’ll be like gunfight st the OK coral! Or are we not allowed to say that either!!

This will continue to happen and will get even worse because our leadership at all levels refuses to do what is necessary to get this type of violent crime under control.

Nope. You expect too much of any government. This will keep happening until the law-abiding citizens are allowed the tools to protect themselves. It doesn’t have to be guns; it could be capsicum spray or stun guns, (I prefer the former), but we are presently in a position to be completely helpless against any person brandishing……………… anything!

People need to stand tall for their own protection, and stand together. If we keep unified (neighbourhood watch, etc.) we can be far more safe. Police can’t be everywhere, and moreover, they are never going to be at the scene of the crime in progress. That is the case anywhere in the world.

I, for one, would not want to carry pepper spray into a gunfight.

          I agree with you 100%.

I would rather carry pepper spray than nothing. Cayman doesn’t seem to tolerate great change suddenly. Things that need to be changed need to start right *** now ! Hopefully, legislation will become increasingly more supportive of the future.

Agree to an extent, however……… what purpose does this narrative serve? It’s like saying ‘there is nothing that can be done’. Well, I don’t accept that. Yes, there are shit families, but you know what? From many of those families shining stars emerge. I have seen it with my own eyes.

I suggest to you that your blasé statement does nothing and tends to reinforce the hopelessness. We, the people are anything but hopeless, yeah?

This is a terrible thing but when will business owners learn that the practice of taking business cash home is no longer safe? Bad people watch what you do. A safe bolted to the floor and an alarm for the business is the safest practice. Your life is worth more.
