Boris to become PM after party vote victory

Boris Johnson, the UK’s next prime minister

(CNS): There was little doubt about who would win the Conservative leadership election, as Boris Johnson was the front-runner from the get-go. The vote count revealed on Tuesday that 66% of the Tory membership backed Johnson, which will carry him to Number 10 Downing Street after he formally takes office on Wednesday afternoon. This means that Britain’s leader has been elected by just 92,153 Tory members, although there are well over 46.5 million voters in Britain.

Johnson is a controversial figure who has promised to take the UK out of Europe, come what may, on 31 October, reunite the people of Britain and defeat the Labour Party at the next election. But in reality, what happens next is anyone’s guess.

Johnson made an early career out of telling complete lies about European Union bureaucracy, was criticised for telling lies during the Brexit campaign and has continued to have some challenges with the truth ever since. He is a gaff-prone character who has cultivated the image of a shambolic British eccentric, but there are some serious concerns about his ability to lead Britain at this extremely decisive time in its history.

In his acceptance speech Johnson said there “will be people around the place who will question the wisdom of your decision”, as he acknowledged that many people in his own party are less than pleased with his rise to power.

As he committed to delivering on his campaign promises, he said that “like some slumbering giant, we are going to rise and ping off the guy ropes of self-doubt and negativity, with better education, better infrastructure, more police, fantastic full-fibre broadband sprouting in every household. We are going to unite this amazing country and we are going to take it forward.”

Promising to work “flat out from now on”, he said he would build a team over the next few days. His first job will be to create a Cabinet before he heads to Europe to deal with the continued problem of the UK’s departure from the European Union. Most of the current Cabinet members will be resigning tomorrow before Johnson formally takes up the job of prime minister.

Following the results of the leadership contest, a YouGov snap poll revealed that 37% of people in Britain were ‘dismayed’ by his election to the top job against 10% who said they were ‘delighted’, and the rest somewhere in between.

Meanwhile, the US Pesident, Donald Trump waded in and said Johnson “would be great” as PM. However, there are already concerns in Britain that Johnson could be manipulated by Trump, who is hugely unpopular in the UK.

Johnson, as a candidate, failed to defend Kim Darroch, the British ambassador to the United States, after his private cables pointing out the shortcomings of the Trump administration were leaked. The new PM has also been keen to work with Trump because of his support for Johnson’s position on Brexit and the ‘leave at any cost’ approach.

Both Trump and Johnson are unabashed Zionists and as such, they will shamelessly follow their agenda. Trump was compromised years ago when he was a billion or two in debt. His family made a fortune from prostitution and gambling. Why do you thing he is so odious?
Zionist banksters bailed him out and now he is a useful idiot. If anyone cares to remember, Trump was a Democrat who supported abortion. I do not believe for a minute that he has the fear of God in his heart.

Johnson is a total plank and unworthy of any leadership position. Theresa May was so bad, she would have made Stalin look good.
If anyone in this day and age is ignorant enough to look to politicians and organized religion to solve their woes, they deserve everything they get.
It is time for people to be alert and wake up to the times that we are living in.

If you are still ignorant, then I have for sale a rusty refrigerator in my backyard that was once purported to have landed on the moon.

Yes, you are correct but if / if Scotland was to separate then Scotland would obviously attempt to apply international customary law related to the Law Of The Sea. There are clear international legal precedents related to states separating and the jurisdiction they have over their offshore natural resources.

He may appear to be a ‘clown’ but he has achieved exactly what he set out to do. He is regarded as highly intelligent and unlike any other politician, is charismatic and likeable – look how he was voted in for a second time as Mayor, against the backdrop of a left-leaning London.

I don’t care that he has referred to women wearing Burkas looking like ‘letterboxes’ – they do! A great piece of observational comedy. We may now see an end to extreme political correctness and finally, someone who has the guts to leave the EU when the deal offered by them was totally unacceptable. The ‘backstop’ goes – a free trade agreement – close co-operation on security and intelligence – reciprocal rights for UK/EU citizens; and then the UK can pay a properly calculated divorce bill!

      – Made a manifesto promise while running to be Mayor of London to not close a single ticket office on the London underground, then closed 144 just 2 years later, costing 1,200 jobs.

-As Mayor he reduced crime in London by 20% while the National average during the same period was a 26% reduction.

      – As Mayor he told the London Assembly he would not close a single fire station or remove fire engines, then closed 10 stations and took 27 engines out of serve.

      – As Mayor of London he spent £40million on a bridge project on which construction never began.

      – As Mayor brought several water cannons for £320,000 that were not legally allowed to be used in the UK, not roadworthy, riddled with faults and were eventually sold for scrap.

      – Has had extra marital affairs with two different wives, furthering children with his lovers.

      – Has at least 2 ‘secret’ love children

      – Has written countless articles while an MP and journalist containing racist comments

      – As Foreign Secretary made a statement to parliament regarding Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe that was factually incorrect, leading to his comments being used in a trial in Iran to increase he prison sentence.

      – Has been described as “the worst Foreign Secretary in memory” and as a “circus act” by foreign office aids.

Oh right, because they stopped the invasion of Britain from the other side of the Atlantic, whilst following an isolationist policy that eventually saw them bombed into the war by Japan at Pearl Harbor, fifteen months later.

And so the Battle of Britain was won by the Yanks, and the Nazis Operation Sealion cancelled because the RAF failed to destroy German aircraft quicker than they could build them, denying air superiority over the English Channel.
Oh of course, the British, (HMS Bulldog) hadn’t captured the Enigma machine from U-110 on the 9th May 1941, broken the Enigma code and didn’t set about destroying U Boats and the rest of the German Navy without a US ship in sight.

Well, this is all hypothetical, but Scotland doesn’t have any Army so the U K can simply pass some laws about who has the oil rights. Plus, Scotland will have to wait a few years to get in the EU even if the UK agrees to their leaving so it will need an agreement on the North Sea before it leaves. A further consideration is what about areas that don’t want to leave. Does the UK invite them to stay? Does Scotland send its future army to make them go along. So many bullshit questions.

        • Anonymous says:

Really….in 2014 the average crude oil price was $85.60. Even at the time of the last Scottish referendum, it was stated that Scotland could not possibly balance its books. Today the price of oil is $46.35 – how can North Sea Oil revenues possibly sustain Scotland without a healthy hand out from Westminster?

Go for independence. Let’s rebuild Hadrian’s Wall, let Scotland join the Euro (lol) and then we can kick out Ian Blackford from Parliament (there’s a loss!).

Yea, because Sectarian bigotry has no place in Scotland. You’re just one big happy band of ginger whingers who blame everyone else for your lack of imaginative thinking and religious intolerances.

The Scottish 63% Remain vote must be held against a 67.2% actual turnout in Scotland, or more accurately 1,661,191 Remain to 1,018,322 Leave. That’s a paltry 642,869 majority in favour of Remain in Scotland, from a national vote of 46,501,241 or 72.2% of the UK voting population.

So your voter turnout was less than the national percentage and markedly less than the Independance referendum which commanded 84.59% voter turnout. Of which 2 million+ voted NO to independence. That still leaves a huge number who didn’t vote either way for Brexit, but clearly wanted to remain in the union because they fear an independent Scotland more than they fear the English.

It’s also notable that 1.6 million independance YES voters match the 1.6 million Remain voters, so not really a resounding vote of confidence in the Remain vote as it would seem that the same SNP voters mobilised for both votes.

The lesson here is that quoting percentages of insignificant numbers is futile, it may look impressive, but has no substance in reality.

Better still you take huge subsidies from England to fund a failing socialist agenda, you want to leave the UK but want to keep the pound and hide comfortably behind our trade agreements, multinational companies, military protection, (especially the RAF) diplomatic service and credit rating.
None of which you can afford on your own.
          Hypocrites.

Racist, English and stupid – a sadly common combination. Explains Brexit. And Farage and Tommy Robinson.

And coming out with that crap isn’t racist, xenophobic or just plain ignorant? Stick to what you know best and keep your historic sectarian bigotry, your druggies, drunks and fake heroes to yourself.
Certainly explains the odious behaviour of Alex Salmond and the failing policies of a socialist SNP who can’t help but put their greedy hands out for more English subsidies.

An independent Scotland looks very likely now because in 2018 over half of Scotland’s exports went to the EU and the majority of inward investment in 2018 came from the EU. If you cut the trading links with the EU because one now longer has preferred market access to EU markets you are committing economic suicide.

The Scottish Parliament and people are not stupid.

Agreed. Let the Remoaners go live in Europe if they love it so much, and take that silly Lib Dem woman with them.
52% said OUT, 50.7% voted for the Nonce Finder General, Labours Tom Watson, to be Dep Leader. He wants to overturn Brexit, but likes his own slim majority to keep his sick nose in the trough.
Remoaners, Labour anti-semites and the beardy weirdy Lib Dem’s are all hypocrites and self serving knobs who cannot accept a clear majority, unless it’s to keep them in power.

      Go BOJO

yep…brexit vote proves that demecracy doesn’t always work.
it also proves that some elements of society don’t deserve full voting rights.

And an education doesn’t necessarily mean that you are smart. Your statement smacks of elitest hypocrisy. Every person that was inclined to vote that day did so. Please don’t be thuggish and respect others even if you don’t see eye to eye with them.

How can I be respectful of people who actually think that the U.K. will be better off without its top trading partner the EU. Sorry Bobo, I studied basic economics so I don’t have to be a genius to understand that cutting the economic links will be deadly for the U.K.

            • Anonymous says:

Oh don’t be such a bore. You studied basic economics, that doesn’t make you an authority on anything but your own arrogance. The EU won’t stop trading with the UK, no more than it does with any country outside of its political union. There may be a period of adjustment, it may be difficult for a while. But, to say that trade with the EU is finished is clearly stupid and worthy of derision by those who have more faith in their country than you.

The Germans won’t stop selling BMW’s, Audis or VW’s, the French won’t cut off champagne and wine supplies to their biggest market. The Dutch won’t close their flower markets, the Belgians won’t stop selling chocolate and beer. The Brits won’t stop holidaying in Spain, Greece and Italy, and won’t stop buying IKEA furniture.
Sure, prices may go up, but who does that hurt most? The consumer can decide not to purchase, the seller must then find a new market. That is basic economics my friend, and better minds than ours will find a way around the stupidity of project fear.
Britain is saying to the whole world that we are open for business.

Inward investment in the UK is up since Brexit, contrary to the Remain doom mongers who warned of a collapsing economy and banking crisis.
The world understands that Britains standing and reputation for stability, even in difficult times, can be trusted and it’s always a solid place to do business and invest for the future, that will not change. Even with the disgusting behaviour of Remoaning politicians in parliament, investment is still going ahead because business takes the long view and understands that a mature parliamentary democracy is far more stable than unpredictable coalition governments or former Soviet satellite states with their ‘soft’ dictatorships, Euro style.

I can remember pre-EU days, when we traded with far more countries than just a few of the wealthiest in Europe. The original Common Market of European trading nations worked and that was what the UK voted for in 1976. The EU doesn’t work for many differing reasons, none more so than the self serving corruption of unelected bureaucrats.
Most of Europe is a dysfunctional economic basket case, riven with corrupt politicians, extreme political views of the far right and left. It is still paying the price of German reunification, Greek, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese financial incompetence, the madness of Eastern European succession and an immigration policy that will cause huge division within and amongst member states for decades, especially in the east.

I think the truth is that the EU is slowly dying and the bureaucrats know it, it would certainly be dead if it was left to the people of Europe. Which is why they are playing hardball with the Brits, trying to dissuade those governments who are vulnerable to their own electoral weakness on the EU, to avoid any form of referendum.

By geography the British are European, (politics can’t change that) by tradition we are a trading and innovative nation, by nature we are not beaten easily and will not roll over in the face of a challenge. So if you think the EU and its apologists can brow beat us into political or economic submission, think again.

1:11, Guess you are really into clowns and buffoons. Having lived through London when Boris was mayor, I can assure you that BOJO will give Trump a run for his money for hypocrisy and buffoonery.

We don’t need more comedians in Parliament.

Not sure I would say Jo Swinson, leader of the Liberal Dems, is a “beardy weirdy” type. Find her very impressive and a good representative of the younger generation in Parliament.

Hypocrisy is Boris Johnson’s middle name. But he is a brilliant showman, but one showman in Washington as a world leader is surely enough. Please end the comedy show.

Impressive with grand ideas of becoming Prime Minister eh? Nice try Jo, you don’t have the voters or the policies to get anywhere near Downing Street, unless you do a Nick and stab your supporters in the back to gain power.
But that’s the Liberal way, self serving and delusional to the reality of life.
