Cayman News Service(CNS): The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service is currently investigating two armed robberies that happened on Saturday evening, both committed by a man dressed in dark clothing and brandishing a machete. The police have not said if they suspect the two cases are linked, however, in both cases the robber demanded and then escaped on foot with an undisclosed sum of cash. The first of the two incidents took place around 5:30pm on 13 April at the food truck parked on a lot on Crewe Road, George Town, across from the First Baptist church.

After demanding cash, the machete-wielding man ran away towards Tropical Gardens with an unknown sum of money.

Then later that evening, just after 9pm, police were called to a restaurant in the Caribbean Plaza off West Bay Road, where the second robbery had taken place. Once again, witnesses reported that a man dressed in dark clothes and armed with a machete entered the restaurant and demanded money, and then fled with the cash on foot.

Anyone with information about these two robberies is asked to call the George Town Police Station at 949-4222.

I fail to understand why no-one simply told the robber to get lost. A machete is not exactly a dangerous weapon; the wielder would have to be close to the potential victim and so there is the opportunity to strike first or throw something.
For the robber to stand the public side of a counter waving his machete is more of a joke than a threat.

    Honest question…

We all know the names of the places that were hit. Why do they not mention them by name in the news reports?

I hope one of these days that the robbers get a pot of hot cooking oil instead of the cash pan.

Even the robberies here are third world.

Threatening minimum wage workers with a weapon to get a measly few bucks. Utterly stupid scum.
