Jaron Solomon

(CNS): Jaron Solomon (29), from East End, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for a violent attack on his girlfriend at a dive shop in the district in the summer of 2017. Solomon had initially denied charges of attempted murder in connection with the frenzied assault in July 2017 at Ocean Frontiers, where his girlfriend worked. But on the morning of trial Solomon pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and other offences relating to the attack, in which he not only stabbed his teenage girlfriend multiple times but also assaulted her co-workers who had tried to help her.

The court heard that Solomon had admitted to being jealous and insecure about his girlfriend, whom he had dated since she was just fifteen years old. The violent assault happened after the couple had argued over the phone and Solomon had then turned up at the dive shop armed with a knife.

During the assault he had screamed violent threats at the young woman, grabbing her hair and putting the knife to her throat, before he began repeatedly punching then stabbing her.

As her co-workers came to her aid, Solomon began assaulting and threatening them as well, hitting one of them in the face. Despite the violence, her colleagues persisted in trying to restrain Solomon and eventually allowed her to break free from her attacker.

The police were called and the staff tried to hold Solomon until they arrived, but he managed to break a window in the store and run off. However, he was arrested soon afterwards. As he was being interviewed by police officers, he broke down and sobbed and admitted his jealousy, but said he had never intended to kill her.

His girlfriend had sustained very serious injuries, including a punctured lung, having been stabbed at least eight times in her neck, shoulder, back and breast. The court heard that she had spent some time in hospital recovering from the injuries.

“This was an utterly disgraceful, frightening and no doubt horrific incident,” Justice Woods said, as he detailed the sentence he handed down to Solomon. Given the severity of the assault, the judge stated that if he had been convicted after trial he would have given Solomon 14 years.

But given his guilty pleas, the judge reduced the time to nine years. He was also given several other much shorter terms for the assaults on his girlfriend’s co-workers, the damage to the dive shop and for carrying the knife, which the judge ordered to run concurrently.

Tara Rivers, may be it is time to look at the root of the problem? Why boys and men in the 21st century continue having mentality of stone ages? What role community plays in preventing gender violence? May be your laws are not draconian enough to stop perpetrators? When do you starts assessing mental health of children? When do you really start empowering Cayman girls and women?

And finally, HOW MANY PEOPLE KNEW about this relationship, and did nothing?

So he is a pedophile who was committing statutory rape for years and when she is finally old enough to stand up for herself her tries to kill her. Where is L.A. on this? Oh right not going to say anything because most of them are sexual predators themselves. This is what the churches should be protesting! This monster needs to be locked up and have the key melted down.

    • Anon says:

@8:30AM > please try to stay focus. Committing statutory rape is not the equivalent of being a pedophile. Statutory rape could be a 18 year old male and a 16 year female having consensual, albeit, underage sex, or vice versa.

Pedophiles are aroused/ have sex and pry on young children, even babies.

Agree that more light needs to be shed on pedophiles and sexual predators, and that is something the church SHOULD be protesting, but as you indicated, it is most likely, that the people who need to mandate this (and the sex offenders registry) are perpetrators themselves (example. the ex fire officer and would be political candidate).

IMO(In my opinion) – If people wait until the day they are going to be sentenced to give a guilty plea they should still get the maximum sentence they would normally get and not have it diluted just because at the last minute they decided to pleaded guilty. If this person got off prior to sentencing, with his original not guilty plea, he would be laughing. Instead, he gets a lighter punishment for saying sorry for beating and almost killing a little girl. PUNISH THEM FOR WHAT THEY DO, NOT AFTER THEY FEEL BAD AND SAY SORRY. This POS should be castrated…
