Cayman News Service(CNS): The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service responded to a 911 call about a violent burglary at a home in the Batabano area of West Bay Saturday night, just three days after an unsuccessful home invasion by two men in the Birch Tree Hill area of the district. About 10:00pm on 9 March, a lone masked man, armed with a machete, broke into the residence and demanded jewelry from the man inside. An altercation ensued during which the victim was struck with the machete, police said.

The culprit left the home and searched the victim’s vehicle, before running off on foot with personal items. He was described as having brown skin and was wearing a dark, long-sleeved shirt or jacket, long pants, and had a cloth covering his face.

Emergency services attended the scene and the victim was taken to hospital for treatment for injuries, including lacerations to his head and arm. He is currently in stable but serious condition.

Anyone who may have any information about either incident or may have seen anything suspicious around the time they were happening is asked to contact West Bay CID at 949-3999.

[If] they did know each other ,,, that does not give anyone the right to enter a person home to do this kind of assault, after all we are not living back in the stone age. This is wrong and very terrible. XXXX

Where is the reward? Where is the outcry and official calls for justice?
This is an 80-something year old, popular law abiding man.
If this happened in SouthSd or WB road the headlines would scream “Retiree attacked in brutal home invasion”.

These incidents are terible. However, these appear to be targeted incidents. Likely the victim & perpetrator are known to each other.
