Listen Up! Moving on Up!

(CNS Podcast): The Cayman government depends on development to keep the economy going and the latest idea floated by the CIG is to develop up, rather than just out. But that gives rise to many questions, not least of which are the technical aspects of construction and how the island’s infrastructure would support such buildings. There are also the social aspects to consider; a population boom could marginalise Caymanians even more. So, are we moving on up?

Brilliant idea. I am so excited about living in New York and going to Cayman to sit on the beach and look at skyscrapers. It will certainly boost tourist for the other islands and that is where we, tourists and Caymanians will be going for our holidays.

I just heard a 50 story skyscraper has been approved for the vacant lot on North Church St by the Dairy Queen. It is designed to cater for the expansion of the Civil Service over the next 5 years and all telephones will be unable to take voice mail if unanswered, and the Deputy Governor will receive a daily log of such calls. The opening ceremony will be conducted by the Duchess of Sussex who will christen it Bush Tower.

When Darttells Alden and the CIG to jump – they always ask – “ How high? “

Thank you. This is a discussion that needs to be had, that will affect multiple generations of Caymanians to come.

Vertical development will not solve our problems if it is tailored solely and specifically for the ultra rich.

The idea of skyscrapers remind me of the city I work in each day. As a tourist, that is the LAST thing I want to see on my beach vacation. The second last thing is all cement and highways. Cayman is losing it’s charm imo. I love the view of the sea, the quaint, winding roads, sand not cement.

I’m far from a cry baby. I’m just giving my opinion which is what is asked when there is a comment section. If you worked around skyscrapers all day( which you may in a few more years), you may be thinking back on this very post where I like to escape on vacation to see open skies and the sea.

I simply do not understand why 10 storey buildings cannot be high enough for Grand Cayman?

I suggest you go! Who the hell wants to see a 50 story skyscraper on a piece of land 76 square miles? Not this Caymanian! Too much development on the west side now! As far as I’m concerned they can shove it and get the hell of the island and take the governor with them too.
