(CNS): Daniel Meeks, a former police constable with the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, denied being corrupt when he appeared in Grand Court Friday and pleaded not guilty to two charges. The ex-officer left the RCIPS more than a year ago, in December 2017, but he was recently charged with one count of misconduct in public office and one count of breach of trust. No details of Meeks’ alleged offences have been released by either the Anti-Corruption Commission or the RCIPS, but CNS has learned that the accusations relate to alleged efforts to defraud a vulnerable family shortly before he left the service.

Meeks is accused of using his position as a police officer in November 2017 to embezzle assets from his victims after he came into contact with the family as a result of his duties as a constable.

Having denied the allegations, the former cop is now due to go on trial in September. He was bailed until the case begins.
