Brexit buffoonery mounts as EU waivers on extension

House of Commons

(CNS): With MPs in Prime Minister Theresa May’s own government referring to her Brexit deal as a “polished turd” and saying that the situation could be described as a “pig’s ear, a dog’s dinner or a cat’s arse”, the PM has written to European leaders to ask for an extension on the date that Britain is due to depart from the European Union. On Monday Speaker John Bercow ruled out a third vote in the coming days on the deal, which has been rejected twice by the House of Commons, unless it was substantially different. If May cannot get a deal through parliament before the end of next week, Britain will crash out of the EU without an extension.

While European leaders have indicated they are willing to push back the Brexit date, they will only agree to a lengthy delay if there is a significant change. EU’s chief negotiator, Michel Barnier, said Tuesday he wanted to see something change, such as a soft Brexit or a new referendum.

“My feeling is that a longer extension needs to be linked to something,” Barnier said. “There needs to be a new event, a new political process.”

But May does not appear inclined to change her own deal and still wants to try and steer it through parliament, even though MPs have overwhelming rejected it twice and despite the speaker’s ruling yesterday. Officials at No 10 said she wants Brexit to happen “as soon as possible”, even though it no longer appears feasible that the UK will leave next week.

The increasing buffoonery around the deal was highlighted by Conservative backbench MP Steve Double last week when he said in the Commons debate, “This is a turd of a deal… which has now been taken away and polished, and is now a polished turd. But it might be the best turd that we’ve got.”

Trudy Harrison, another Tory backbencher, said staff in her office discussing how to describe the current situation were torn between “a pig’s ear, a dog’s dinner or a cat’s arse”.

Meanwhile, France’s EU minister, Nathalie Loiseau, said she had named her cat ‘Brexit’ because of its loud meow and fickle nature.

“He wakes me up every morning miaowing to death because he wants to go out, and then when I open the door he stays in the middle, undecided, and then gives me evil looks when I put him out,” she told French media.

Astonishing that you think you know so much about the UK and the EU. Many people voted to leave because the EU is an utterly unaccountable institution notorious for financial ineptitude. Every year billions of euros are embezzled by other member states and never recovered. Other EU countries pick and choose which EU rules they are actually going to abide by, and after the financial crisis more billions were poured into the coffers of those nations which had bankrupted themselves though corruption and incompetence. The British public are tired of pouring our country’s money into this bottomless pit. If you are interested in finding out more about this, have a look at various reports by Transparency International which make for sobering reading about the reality of the EU.

Not that our own dear (genuinely valued) Wendy or any of the other Remainers care, but it would be nice to see the following sentence “Britain will crash out of the EU without an extension” written soberly as “Britain will exit/leave the EU under WTO terms without an extension”…the formal, non political expression. Wendy is merely parroting the Orwellian language of all the remainer biased media…crash out, over the cliff, into chaos etc (she adds brexit buffoonery…who caused that Wendy, the remainers not willing to accept the result?!?). The sentence I have written is factual, the other expressions have political biases added. BTW, the Brexiteers have their own idiocies and Orwellian stuff to be examined but that is another story.

You fool! That is the lie that the more basic Brexiteers buy into. Crashing out means undoing 50 years of arrangements. it is much much more serious and harmful than you make out. The UK is a service economy, services prop up the balance of payments, but the WTO does not deal with services. The WTO is straining at the moment, the highest court is about to be rendered ineffective by US non-appointments, non-tariff barriers are increasing, there are no valid enforcement mechanism other than tariff punishments. And the UK is walking away from the world’s largest free trade zone with all the massive trade upsoides, a free trade zone the is right next to it.

Harsh reality is the majority of Tory MPs are opposed to Brexit. I’m from the UK and my local MP there was campaigning with Labour for a Remain vote because, like many other career MPs, she’s got ambitions for a nice cushy job in Europe. When the people in her constituency voted 68% in favour of getting out she had to do an abrupt about face to avoid de-selection but you can bet that underneath she’s still a Remainer. One of the ironies is it’s a rural farming area that was supposed to be getting huge benefits from EU membership but the local farmers are actually being screwed.

11:05 What do you mean? I’m the OP and I voted to get out. I’m here because my work bought me here. I’ll be back home in about 10 months and by then I hope we’re out but I’m not holding my breath on that – I think we’re going to get screwed by Parliament. The whole concept of a referendum was a sick joke.

For the majority who voted to leave the EU in the referendum it is unlikely that their vote will be respected. The EU will not make it easy for Brexit to actually happen for fear other countries will likewise decide to leave. There is a strong vocal remain force within the UK who will sabotage the Brexit referendum result.
It is ironic that a democratic referendum vote result will be defeated because it disagrees with the liberal agenda. It looks like the democratic voice of the people is only respected if it agrees with the existing power structure.

I don’t think the racists, the believers in fake news, those that blame immigration for their own failings and the truly stupid are deserving of respect.

Your open mind is apparent from your comments, and I quote. Racists, believers in fake news, those who blame immigration for their own failings, truly stupid, narrow minded and ignorant.
