Site of NCB Group’s proposed hotel, George Town, Grand Cayman

(CNS): The NCB Group’s proposed boutique hotel project on the George Town waterfront is still on track and due to open in late 2021, the developer has confirmed. Although work appeared to have stalled on the site, NCB told CNS that it is now ready and fully prepped for construction to start in April. Work had stopped temporarily while the hotel brand, the Curio Collection by Hilton, was confirmed and preparations to increase the hotel from six storeys to seven was completed. The developer is planning an 80-room hotel with “upper upscale accommodations” incorporating renewable and energy-efficient technologies, NCB said in a release.

“As tourist arrivals in the Caribbean continue to increase, we have prioritised the region in our larger expansion efforts with Hilton’s first property in Grand Cayman,” said Juan Corvinos, vice president, development, Latin America and the Caribbean, Hilton. “In partnership with NCB Group, we are working toward embodying a retreat that caters to the needs of today’s discerning travelers that prioritise wellness while at home and abroad.”

Matthew Wight, managing director of NCB Group, said the company was elated to be partnering with an industry leader like Hilton. “It’s an honour that our hotel was selected to be a part of this exclusive collection of one-of-a-kind, independent hotels and resorts that are all celebrated for their individuality. Through this alliance we will be delivering an innovative wellness tourism product that also caters to the discerning business traveller.”

The developer is planning two restaurants and a poolside café, a fully equipped gym, spa and conference facilities. The hotel will also provide guests with a swimming pool with a swim-up bar and a fresh juice bar, electric vehicle rentals and complimentary bicycles.

“On the heels of our record-breaking arrivals in 2018, as a destination we must continue to meet
the demand for luxury accommodations,” said Tourism Minister Moses Kirkconnell. “The ministry is committed to sustainably grow capacity and values the efforts of partners such as NCB Group who have embraced the Caymankind approach to tourism development. This property will brighten the tourism activity in the heart of George Town and we welcome this new hotel brand to our island.”

Tourism Director Rosa Harris said it was important for Cayman to have accommodation to provide exceptional experiences.

“Having a one-of-a-kind boutique property with wellness-focused offerings in our capital aligns with key segments of our visitor demographic and the strategic vision for tourism in the Cayman Islands. The property will be a welcome addition to room inventory and will further enhance our diverse product offerings and accommodations sector,” she added.

Shame NCB cannot keep their sub-contractors from parking on the inside curve of the dangerous corner near South Sound cemetery while they have been building The Tides. Even though they have provided a parking area they seem content to let us drivers risk daily accidents because they cannot control the people working for them.
I can only imagine what the North Church Street section by this hotel site will be subjected to. Hopefully by then the RCIPS will have awakened to the dangers of this stupid parking.

The stench will be one of the complimentary amenities at the Hilton. Sure will be interesting reading the Trip Advisor reviews on the new Hilton and the complimentary stench.

They will after staying in Cayman Hilton. Better yet, they would demand money back or sue for intentional misrepresentation of material facts.

I doubt their marketing material will state that they are not near a dump. The fact that they are near a dump is material to a guest, but not material to the contract. Most hotel guests are inconvenienced or put off by something nearby.

It will be a while before this one is ready for tourists if they have the same crews that are doing the structure in South Sound by the cemetery.
