Son charged with attempted murder

Cayman News Service(CNS) UPDATED: Jeffery Powery (32) has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a serious assault on his mother at her home in West Bay last month and has been remanded in custody. Powery appeared in Summary Court on Friday where the charges were transmitted to the Grand Court. He was arrested on 14 December, the day after his mother was found unconscious in her home. Police had been alerted by neighbours, who reported hearing an altercation at the house in North West Point on the night of 12 December and were worried when they did not see the victim the following day.With no prepared indictment presented to the court detailing the charges, the case against Powery who was represented by Jonathon Hughes of Samson Law was immediately adjourned and set to be heard again on 25 January.
