Missing man Eral Keith Whitely (CLICK TO ENLARGE)

(CNS) UPDATED THURSDAY: Following a press release from the RCIPS Wednesday that revealed Eral Keith Whitely (72) from George Town had not been seen since around Christmas Day and had been reported missing Tuesday, 22 January, the police have since learned that he was last seen about two weeks ago in the Dump Road area of George Town. Whitley’s whereabouts are still unknown and officers are conducting a missing person inquiry. They are asking for the public’s assistance as they are very concerned for his welfare and believe he had been sleeping in abandoned vehicles.

He is described as being of slim build, dark complexion, about 5’ 10” and is bald. He typically wears baseball caps and glasses, a white t-shirt, blue jeans and sneakers.

Originally police believed the last sighting of Whitely was around 25 December in the area of Brushy Avenue off Godfrey Nixon Way, George Town. Police said it was in this area that they understood he had been using the cars as a place to rest.

Police are urging anyone with information about where Whitely might be or who believe they may have seen him in the last few weeks to contact the George Town Police Station at 949-4222.

Anonymous tips can be provided directly to the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777, or website. Tips can also be submitted anonymously via the Miami-based call centre of Crime Stoppers at 800-8477(TIPS), or online.

To all who are concerned I’m a family memeber who lives off island we weren’t aware of him being missing and/or sleeping in abandoned cars until just a few days ago. Keith senior was living alone doing his own thing and usually doesn’t stay in contact for long periods of time, so we especially those living on the island didn’t think anything of it.
We appreciate everyone for your concerns and any info you can help with. All those who know us in cayman knows we are a loving family and if he had reached out to us we would have surely given him shelter. Thank you.

    Colour matters.

When Nathan went missing the CNS readership (and many of Cayman’s residents) was crawling out of the woodwork and hitting the ground running to assist in the search.

Friends matter. People rallied together because they knew him and wanted to help. I suggest you look at all these people who are friends and family who haven’t gotten off their rear ends to organize anything busy called the police like 20 days later. Wow! But blame race on everything. Get over yourself.

        B.S..

Plus, did you hear or read such hateful and callous remarks at the time of Nathan’s disappearance…a young and healthy man that recklessly drank himself beyond the point of control and carried himself into the sea?

        No, you did not.

        However, when this elderly man who has reportedly been recently made homeless goes missing the common responses are;
        Is he Caymanian?
We should send people like him home.
        He is a Yardie.
Why is he on island with no work?

Interestingly, Nathan WAS a foreigner however, I reiterate, we did not witness such despicable behaviour from the general public.

        Again, colour matters. Race matters.

I don’t need to get over myself but you need to learn YOURself.

It’s funny you still blame race when caymanians are saying the hateful things. Redirect your anger bro.

Redirect? Kindly advise as to whom my anger is directed?
            (Guilty conscience perhaps?)

It matters NOT who is saying the hateful / racist things – you idiot.

            Anyway, back to this case;
Where are the hundreds of altruistic volunteers to help look for Mr. Whitely that were out in a flash…boats, scuba gear et al, to look for Nathan?

However, according to you, the absence thereof as well as the disparity of callous disregard on display for this elderly man’s life, on this same platform, are just simple coincidences.

            Ok then.

I have never seen so much misguided comments and questions on an issue. Before you all make your unfounded, inaccurate comments, please carry out a thorough research. Just one example, based on my research it was confirmed that only few people knew that he was sleeping in a car. As a result, if his immediate family doesn’t know how can they help. This man was working and last seen with cash that he could take care of himself. It is possible that it could be foul play.

It may come as a surprise to some posters but this unfortunate gentleman’s circumstances are by no means unique.
There are the young man with a tattoo and older man with deformed foot who hang around Subway at Anderson Square; the lady with multiple bags who manoeuvres between On-the-Run in industrial park and airport Fosters’ just to name the most prominent ones.

You stupid people think Government should support everyone that comes here that can’t support themselves, and at the same time complains about the high cost of living, don’t you know that.s are part of the high cost of living, when Govt. has to give/support people. everyone on work permit out of work should be sent home. The Cubans on hunger strike give them food and if they don,t want to eat it, that’s
fine, send them back to Cuba and let them go on hunger strike there. We Caymanians are sick and tired of supporting foreigners.

On the other hand status grants should / or are not issued to people who are not able to take care of themselves ,or unless otherwise connected to family or marriage .

Well, considering that this 80’s baby grew up alongside this elderly man’s offspring, with matching name and physical features, (I am not certain if child or grandchild) – you really ought to check your prejudice and hollow heart.

Quite disgusting to make such a remark at a time like this.

This man clearly has roots in our community – not that it even matters.

Once you are black (dark skin tone), Caymanian’s assume you are a Jamaican living here illegally and should have gone missing in Jamaica instead.

Yes!!! We need some serious immigration screening to weed out these people…And even if they have status or PR they also need to be gone, if they cannot support themselves.

Family members need to start stepping up and caring for their elderly. My aunt took care of my grandparents and her disabled brother. My father supported them all financially. I took out a loan to help my father pay his bills when he fell short.
