Lord Ahmad at United Nations

(CNS): The UK minister with responsibility for the British Overseas territories, Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon, has said that climate change is not an abstract theoretical risk but a real problem that is “much graver than previously thought” and happening now, driving people from their homes, threatening sustainable development and trade while exacerbating conflict and instability. “Severe weather events that used to happen ‘once in a century’ now occur two or three times a decade, sometimes more often,” he told the UN Security Council Open Debate on climate change last week.

“Research by the UK’s Independent Climate Change Committee in collaboration with the China Expert Panel on Climate recently concluded that we have significantly underestimated the social and, indeed, the economic risk from climate change,” Lord Ahmad warned. “And of course this risk threatens us all. So it’s important we must all contribute to the solution, including through discussions, such as the important one we are having now.”

The minister said the UK is investing heavily to help vulnerable nations, but that “we must accelerate global action to meet the commitments we have made”.

He said the Commonwealth Heads of Government have reaffirmed their commitment to the Paris Agreement and pursuing efforts to limit the increase in global average temperatures to 1.5º Celsius above pre-industrial levels. But he said that countries must make better use of the climate-risk data available, consider all climate-related risks and invest in resilience.

“The UK will lead efforts on resilience ahead of the Secretary-General’s Climate Summit this year, collaborating with a range of actors, to launch what we hope to be genuinely transformational actions,” he said.

“Investing in preparedness to respond will, on average, halve… the cost of deploying humanitarian aid in the wake of a disaster. And it can also speed up crisis response by up to two weeks. Resilience also presents a huge opportunity to support employment, spread prosperity, which of course accelerates development, and ultimately enhances security.

“There is no doubt that climate-related security challenges are real,” Lord Ahmad warned. “They are here. They are now. We must work together to ensure the United Nations system is able to holistically consider climate risks in decision-making and most importantly, integrate them into mission planning and ultimately, into implementation.”

Here is more “”science”” on climate change. Climate change is now linked and partly to blame for:

    – Civil War and global armed conflicts
    – Erectile Dysfunction
    – Sexual Assault (Including rape)
    – Domestic Violence
    – Starvation
    – Unemployment
    – Violation of immigrant’s rights.

    As the USA and UK, on opposite sides of the great Atlantic Ocean, both effectively grind to a halt in the freezing winter cold, we have yet another fear being forwarded in the name of “climate change”;

“A study in Wednesday’s Journal of the American Heart Association found that a larger number of babies will probably be born with congenital heart defects between 2025 and 2035 due to their mothers’ exposure to higher temperatures, triggered by climate change, while pregnant. This especially holds true for moms who were pregnant through spring or summer. Climate change could result in as many as 7,000 additional cases of congenital heart defects in the United States over an 11-year period, according to the study. The Midwest will probably see the biggest percent increase, followed by the South and Northeast regions of the United States.”

So…what about the MILLIONS of babies born every year (thousands of years) in climates far hotter than even the predicted “climate change” increases?
Are they suffering a crisis of congenital heart defects?

Sigh…as I say more and more; the western world needs another World War or something soon because idle hands are the devil’s playground.

Jokes aside, it is despicable and an affront to actual research and science, the way once reputable institutions allow themselves to be dragged along in the dirt of “climate change”.

Put down the Kool-Aid people. Back away from the barrel.

It’s now very important when reporting on climate to “brand” the weather. So now it’s no longer just a cold winter. It’s “The Polar Vortex”. See this sounds much more of a scarier anomaly in the climate. (Never mind that Chicago has been reporting -60 weather since the beginning of time).

BEWARE OF THE POLAR VORTEX! (due global warming of course)

If it is real, why aren’t the oceanfront prices dropping and why is there so much construction in low lying areas?
Just a simple answer will suffice.
Perhaps I have missed something or maybe I am just plain ignorant to think that my shopping bag for life will change everything?
Hold on, I get it. Let’s implement a global carbon tax for everyone and that will solve the problem, n’est ce-pas? Yes, us ignorant idiots paying carbon tax will keep the waters at bay so the rich can continue to live on the oceanfront?
    Sniff test not passed.

Let those who do not believe in climate change go ahead and dismiss it. After all it is very difficult for everyone to understand. We would have to pass drastic laws on the island and the entire world to get a lot of people to comply so I don’t suggest it. But just for the heck of it will those who do not believe just take care of the planet anyway. Try to reduce use of plastics as much as possible, put pressure on government to do something about the dump, dispose of used oil properly etc. etc. think of the aesthetics instead of the ozone layer.

Is it necessary to call people names because they have a different opinion? If one researches climate change over the last million years we find that the earth goes thru climate cycles. At one point in time the earth was covered, or nearly covered, by ice. The warming, over many centuries, caused the ice sheet to melt over many, many thousands of years. None of which can be attributed to humans.

Over thousands of years the earth cools and warms. Just think that 10,000 years ago, Florida was nearly half covered with water. Use the internet and search, “Florida 20,000 years ago”. NASA has some excellent data and pictures which you might find interesting. As time goes by the cooling/warming cycles accelerate in the last 1,000 years or so of the cycle. The eastern side of Antarctica is adding ice to the sheet while the arctic is losing ice sheet. That is the period we now find the world experiencing.

As humans have progressed, technology has increased at a more rapid pace. Who would have envisioned computers 1,000 years ago? To reach a level of knowledge that produced computers, cell phones, laptops, pads and tablets, and all the other modern technology that we use to communicate all while the world has been warming in the natural cycle of the universe. One thousand years ago we did not have cars, trains, planes, snowmobiles, ocean liners, space shuttles or any other, what we consider, modern modes of transportation.

Did any of these technological breakthroughs add to the temperature of the planet beyond that which would naturally occur in that “end of cycle” period of natural climate change? Did humans, through advancing technology, which modern humans (especially the younger generation) cannot live without, cause an additional one degree rise in the planets temperature? Scientists around the globe disagree. Why do they disagree? For the same reason that God, or if you are atheist – Evolution, gave us the power of “REASON”. The power to be independent thinkers and develop our own conclusions. To disagree over facts that cannot be proven, or reasonably agreed to be everyone.

The world has had it’s share of “Doomsayers” since humans were able to communicate. Thousands of years ago the world was ending because of the demise of mammals used for food. The world was ending because the earth was hit by large meteorites that caused massive dust storms that surrounded the earth. The world was decimated by floods, storms and disease. There were massive dust clouds created by volcanoes the likes of which we no longer experience. The ice sheet finally began to melt and humans were able to migrate all over the planet. What if that never happened? We would not now be discussing how humans are destroying the planet in just a few short years.

Can we be better stewards of our planet? Absolutely! Can we change a climate that we do not understand, cannot predict, and certainly cannot control? Have we learned nothing from the history of the planet we call home? Do we need to feed the fear and frenzy of those that believe we can somehow change, modify or slowdown the speed of the natural progression of our planets climate change? History for millions of years indicates the answer is no.

Isn’t it interesting how humans have overcome all of the climate changes that we have never been able to control and, to this day do not understand? And, up to this time, we have not had a single human that can correctly predict or change the weather. Our ancestors migrated around the planet to find better places to live that were more conducive to a new lifestyle they created. Now we travel to the moon, mars, and soon beyond, for what reason? Because we cannot control the planet we live on, or that we can better manage another planet. That is beyond human capabilities as we have seen since the planet was created (or the big bang).

So, do we continue to fight over what is going to occur, no matter what we small beings do? Should we spend our fortunes on what if’s? It is a universal truism that politicians don’t spend their money – they spend everyone else’s money. Let’s look at those things we can effect now and in our future; crime, drugs, human trafficking, parenting our children and the like. It will pay benefits into the future. Politicians spending our money chasing things they don’t understand and cannot control will not benefit humankind in our, or our children’s, or children’s-children’s lifetime.

This is not meant as a political statement. It is meant for us to question those that believe the world is coming to an end, or some catastrophic calamity is going to occur and only they can solve it with our money, even though millions of years have already proven them wrong.

    • Anonymous says:

You keep referring to 1000 years ago and mention acceleration, but fail to acknowledge that anyone can see the rapid change that occurred only in the last century as burning fossil fuels became more and more a staple of life.

Hell, even the past 50 years you can see a major increase. This is not in alignment with the thousands of years cycle.

“The skeptics will tell you the ocean is alkaline naturally and there is nothing to worry about…GILLS and NOAA data say otherwise…It was the oceans that first gave us life on earth, and it is the oceans that will take it away. …New research shows that it was ocean acidity that caused all the mass extinction events earth has previously faced and that what caused the acidification is essentially irrelevant if your facing it again. ..”

“When oceans lack oxygen, bacteria thrive that give off hydrogen sulfide which poisons the life on land by turning the skies green. Insect and birds go first because they need huge amounts of O2 to power their mitochondria to fly. Humans civilization will flame out long before this happens, because of our brain’s extreme oxygen and water demands. The key is loss of phytoplankton using the photoelectric effect to make oxygen from water’s electrons due to excessive EMF acidifies the ocean and plankton dies — no O2 is made for life in the sea.”

    • Rick says:

‘Einstein,’ you are clearly not a scientist. How many theories for mass extinction events have there been? If this is the latest, then the previous ones must be wrong. In any case, what does this have to do with man’s activities? The need to take care of the planet is a given. But why do we need idiots championing a new religion to do so? We have been teaching and practicing taking care of our environment for thousands of years without the lies and lunacies. Climates change, that is what they do. If you guys did not fail in all your previous expectations/predictions you would not have that label. It used to be ‘New Ice Age Coming Due to Green House Effect’, then when the evidence pointed the other way it changed to ‘Global Warming Due to Green House Effect,’ which did not pan out either. The planet actually got cooler for ten straight years! So you have now changed it to ‘Climate Change.’ Well, duh!!! Climates change! Now I’m sure the climate explainers will continue to explain as to why this cooling has happened. And that the globe is actually not really cooling naturally, rather that the climate is till out to get all of us, but non the less, THE CLIMATE HAS NOT BEEN WARMING any any significant was from any meaningful historical data.

Nor is the any science that shows that *humans* are the causes of the climate changing to any significant degree.

Now prophets and disciples of the cult of climate change may not like the FACTS, but they are indeed facts.

      • BeaumontZodecloun says:

Excellent point, and that — to me — is at the heart of it all. We should be preserving rather than building upon. We should be cleaning rather than contaminating. We should be setting standards that eventually produce a cleaner environment than that which we inherited.

What we should not be doing is buying into a carbon tax scheme that makes billions of dollars for hucksters, exploiters and frauds. Preservation and mitigation of the environment should not EVER be a business. If we all could agree upon this very simple concept, then we could all work together using the truth as our banner toward the benefit of the Earth and its processes.

If we are swayed by the “truthiness” of the exploiters, we will spend our money and resources to make some conmen (and, -women) rich.
