Cayman records 7 new HIV infections in 2018
(CNS): Health officials have confirmed that there are now 72 people living with HIV in the Cayman Islands, after seven new infections were diagnosed between January and September of this year and one person died. In his message marking the 30th anniversary of World Aids Day on Saturday, Health Minister Dwayne Seymour reminded the public that early detection and proper treatment can ensure that people with HIV can still live long and healthy lives. But prevention remains the most important goal.
All local district health centres in Cayman provide free condoms. The Cayman Islands Red Cross also offers education on sex, sexuality, HIV testing and counselling, as well as condom distribution.
Free testing will also be available next week at the Red Cross, pubic health centres and at UCCI and the Seven Mile Medical Clinic.

I am surprised there are not more his cases considering the party atmosphere
Thanks to Ezzard Miller for making pro-active legislation and other innovations in the late 1980’s thru the mid 1990’s – otherwise our islands would have been decimated by AIDS by now!
Temp permits do not require tests or medicals. These are windows that need to be closed!!!
scary that there is that many people with aids, in a country that has less than 70K people.
Expats get tested often, this is caused by little to no sexual education for locals. Not to mention terrible role models in their parents.
Sowing the seeds of discord … let’s all join in the fun.
I’m sure whatever backwater swamp you’ve dragged yourself out here from, is free from ignorance and disease. Also, from just that sentiment, I can tell your parents were fantastic role models for you.
How’s that for a start? Bleh.
I so love that response my caymanian brother or sister. I also thought to rip um a a new one myself but you did a fantastic job. I am not sure which irks me more…their ignorant hateful statement or the people who liked it.
Oh sure. Keep your heads in the sand.
My parents were fantastic role models. I’ve never gotten an std or hiv. I was taught to be a realists by them too. Xoxo
So the locals get it from the tourists then?
I think you’ll find they get it from other locals who aren’t forced to get a test.
You want real protection from Aids or any STD for that matter:
BE COMMITTED TO ONE SEXUAL PARTNER
Not necessarily, if the partner doesn’t share the same enthusiasm for monogamy.
Ok then …
BE COMMITTED TO ONE SEXUAL PARTNER THAT’S COMMITTED & GODFEARING
??
The GODFEARING ones RE THE WORST!!!
The more they fear God the less they fear STDs
Yes, They are if the church walls in The Cayman Islands could talk. Many a Caymanian marriage would end in divorce. But yet the chircchu preach nothing but hate. I don’t know what Bible they all are reading from. But God created us all equal and said to love one another, NOT SPREAD HATE.
How quick The Cayman Islands residents forget HURRICANE IVAN. BE CAREFULL OF THE HATE YOU ALL ARE SPREADING AND PREACHING.
KARMA ALWAYS COMES BACK TO GET YOU.
Truely, most people can say they are committed. But without faith in a Gd to sustain human value and accountability, “right and wrong” is in their own eyes, subject to relativism. Any wind of changed that blows on the house they built, will eventually cause it to collaspe – because it is built on the sifting sand of human philosophies. But Gd is the Rock of all lasting relationships. For our very penal laws are built on the notion of absolute moral laws from an absolute single source.

I managed to bring up my children without God. They have turned out to be upright members of their community. Children take on the values they are brought up with. I am not saying that God is not a good thing in people lives, I am only saying that children can be reared with values without a bible in one hand and a whip i the other.
But do the values apply to all, and not subject to circumstancial change ???
oh stop. more criminals in the church than anything else. Asking poor people for money by telling them things that they could read themselves. Its a scam. There are MANY people in this world doing great things for HUMANITY that has never set foot in a church, and if they did, they never returned. Your body is the temple and your prayers need only come from self. Tired of seeing people begging a god for prosperity when so many people are dieing around the world. Cut you crap and move on.
If Jesus didnt do anything for the millions of people being slaves over here hundred of years ago, why is he going to give you that new car that you want? seriously, people need to use logic. People can believe in a magical man in the sky, but you cant believe that the bank taking your house for non payment.
Oh, before you get on your high horse and say that it seems I’m un happy with my life, Im quite happy, especially when I can save my money instead of giving it to con men.
Sure… tell us how that works out in the Caribbean where men are taught by their non existent fathers to be non existent fathers. Also, my husband and I are atheist and neither of us would ever cheat. Leave your god out of this because that doesn’t prevent anything. Sex Ed and women who respect themselves enough to not sleep with unavailable men would be a starter.
Is this information available to the public? Like is there a register of names?
Why can you print your name than using anonymous!
Yes we keep importing rif raff to add to our existing problem and when certain doctors willfully ignore their medical obligations to look after their own kind and their pocketbooks what does one expect I am honestly amazed it not more persons infected.
Never heard of this and I would be confident it does not happen. Scaremongering.
Rif raff have to get tested before and during their stay here. Problem is closer to home bobo
This isn’t an expat problem…we have to get tested in order to get a work permit. While my PR was pending approval I had to get tested every 6 months!!
Yes. But there are some people who are not required to get tested because they come in on 3 month work permits. I believe that all people should get tested.
Not true! You are not required to complete a STD test for a temporary work permit. 6 months a lot of time for an infected person to infect a lot of people.
There have been work permits that just weren’t put in because of the test results. I know of a few ‘expats’ that got it while they were living here and had to go home. So this isn’t just a ‘local’ problem.
Mandatory testing of expats is a way to control the outbreak.
It would not be practical nor would human rights agree if Cayman wanted to test tourists also. Not saying that locals aren’t careful. But for the number to increase means they either ‘interacted’ with the existing known individuals either knowingly or unknowingly or it was a tourist or someone they met while they were off island.
If it was due to an unknowing interaction with another local, then maybe there should be a register or make it a mandatory 25 year sentence in prison for passing it on.
The law which discriminates against people with HIV is fundamentally unconstitutional and should be challenged. It exists in very few other places. Like your gay marriage stance it will be smashed to pieces in about three years or less.
What do you suppose is wrong with you? Do you know the nationality and circumstances of these 72 people? Would it matter to you where they are from when considering their treatment? You attempt to imply that nonCaymanian physicians are turning a blind eye to their own countrymen who are HIV positive; do you have a single, shred of evidence to support this accusation? Do you sit around in your underwear quite often? Do you feel that you have a good understanding of punctuation and grammar usage?
Feel free to answer any of these questions, although the last one was quite rhetorical, I assure you.
11:21 Trump and Caravan?
“Imported rif raff” have to be tested for HIV and any other diseases as a work permit requirement so the work permit holders and their spouses are checked and cleared and for each permit renewal. Whats left? Locals, and those here illegally……maybe the sex workers hanging out at back rooms of well known cigar bars and drinking holes and those that frequent them.
The Cayman AIDS Foundation is operating very unprofessionally and focusing on LGBT instead of the true message. The wrong message is being sent when you focus mainly on a persons sexual orientation. The organization needs a revamp with a fresh committee. The funding is coming from the Cayman Islands Goverment and thus someone from that Ministry should review the foundation performance.
That’s because before the 1990’s, Aids was referred to as the “gay disease” in America. Aids looks like – a gay men HIV epidemic according to the CDC’s yearly reports. I know many gay fans don’t like to be reminded of such reports. One of them in September 2010 reads, “Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM) represent approximately 2% of the US population, yet are the population most severely affected by HIV and are the only risk group in which new HIV infections have been increasing steadily since the early 1990s …” This is from the CDC study.
Despite much covering up from LGBT supporters, the revelations about gay men and HIV infections remain the same today. “Gay and bisexual men remain the population most affected by HIV in the United States” says a September, 2018 report. Read –

I don’t see why Cayman Aids Foundation is focusing too much on LGBT. If they need to be forewarned about this fatal disease by all means educate the public!

a very preventable disease.
Exactly!!! People are too lazy and/or slack to protect themselves! You can pay with your life.
Is it a crime in Cayman to pass HIV/Aids onto someone wilfully?
Willfully and stupidly are two different things. Then where do you make that conclusion that it was a crime .
Sadly there have been cases overseas of persons knowing they were HIV positive wilfully engaging in unprotected sex, thereby trying to make others sick (according to prosecution). – That is probably what has spurred the original question. – Also sadly some discriminatory criminalization.

Raggamuffin don’t be silly put a rubba pon ya willy!
Better still, marry your soulmate and stay faithful and married. Problem solved. Promiscuity and sexual identity are promoted way above their station and young people can easily fall into the traps that snared their parents.
Sex is part of a healthy, loving relationship between a man and a woman and can lead to children being born hopefully into a loving family.
That is my opinion, I am convinced it is the truth.
You are entitled to your own opinion and I support your right. I have said my piece, you can say yours, but leave the frothing at the mouth out of it.
And when the spouse don’t wanna give you something?
Then, if you are incapable of communicating with your spouse or negotiating for your needs, then at least put a helmet on your soldier.
Please educate.yourself before you talk.
