Several injured in BT head-on crash

(CNS) UPDATED: Police from the traffic unit have opened an investigation into a head-on collision in what police said was the Pease Bay area of Bodden Town last night. All four people were injured in the crash, which involved two cars. Police said the crash happened at around 8:20pm on Tuesday, 9 October, along Bodden Town Road, involving the two vehicles which were heading in opposite directions. Three people were in one car, and one in the other vehicle. All the injured parties were taken to the hospital but fortunately no one sustained any life-threatening injuries and have since been treated and released.

A video circulating on social media Wednesday was believed to have been taken from a car that was behind the vehicle which appeared to cause the crash. In the video, which seems to be in Breakers and not Pease Bay, the car is seen driving erratically before drifting across into the wrong lane and straight into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

8:00pm it was not the same person who video the accident that shared the video on social media. They assumed the person was drunk driving; however, that was not the case. It apparently was a Doctor who was working a 24hour shift that was on his way to work when he fell asleep on the wheel. Unfortunately, whoever it was that posted the video after it was sent to them took it upon themselves to share it.

It seems that every time there is a serious accident such as this, the driver that caused it (assuming they survive, of course) is simply released to continue driving the same way. Surely in many cases there would be sufficient grounds to arrest them for careless driving or another offense? Whether you are drunk, tired, speeding, or just a terrible driver – you need to be held responsible for your actions before you kill someone.

The video is insane. The driver just veers completely into the other lane and smack head on. That is a common occurrence when heading to EE. We will end up sending more tourists home in body bags or those of us who live here until the RCIPS gets serious about dangerous driving.

I’ve noticed much less cop cars on the roads these past few weeks. Was the strong enforcement just seasonal? South Sounds should have a speed trap on a daily basis.

It would be nice if we could see the video, but we know how that goes.

When will this Government allow Uber or Lyft, so persons can go out and get sloshed, get home for a decent fare without having to get behind the wheel and endangering others?
