Cayman news Service(CNS): The police have reported that an RCIPS firearm was accidentally discharged during an operation on Thursday evening and the incident is under internal investigation, however the Office of the Ombudsman, which now oversees complaints about the police, has been informed. The RCIPS said the police gun, which was not identified, was fired during a search but the location was also not revealed. Police said that no one was present at the time and no one was harmed by the bullet, which struck a police vehicle. No other details were released but the RCIPS said all relevant protocols were being followed.

Yes these are the types of reports they like to investigate, because the other serious corruption issues at the RCIPS is clearly not in their best interest or their foreign agenda to look into or even mention. The OMB directors recent statement about the outcome of a number of historical complaints being resolve by handing them back over to those at the Rcips who didn’t have the power or was unable to look into them in the first place says it all.Justice has been served no doubt now according to them. What a joke but it is on us Cayman?

Very serious. Safety on weapon, off, finger on the trigger and either a rickisha or weapon up, to hit a vehicle. If this was a secure crime scene this amounts to a negligent act versus an accidental discharge. How many other incidents like this have occurred with RCIPS. Poor or lack of training and no discipline. Luckily no one was shot.

It’s a pity that people weren’t more concerned about the illegal firearms that are on this island, and are discharged virtually on a daily basis killing people. There’s a lot of Adrenalin flowing when Police Officers are on these kind of operations and fear of losing their own lives exist.
These men, although highly trained, are only human and accidents do happen. As for the other firearm offences, these are certainly not accidents and deliberately discharging firearms and killing people is a matter of course for the criminal element on these islands.

‘Highly trained’ firearms officers do not ND. I’m afraid ‘accidents happen’ is not an acceptable excuse.

You need to read CNS more accurately 8.42pm People are getting shot and stabbed regularly on this island. There’s a lot of criminal activity for such a small place. Just take a look at all the armed robberies for a start! So I wouldn’t go there if I was you. Good law abiding citizens are fed up to the teeth with it all so don’t grumble about RCIPS. You must be a real perfect person. All we want on this island is to live a normal life without the fear of not being able to sleep safely in our beds without some scumbag breaking in and holding a gun to our heads demanding our hard earned possessions. This is what YOU should be concerned about not a very rare accident of the RCIPS discharging a firearm.
For your information 12.31pm yes, I was a Cop as you put it, but now retired so I am more than qualified to know the situation these officers are up against when out on these type of operations. I’ve had glass bottles thrown at me, been spat at, verbally abused etc., the list is endless. So please don’t criticise and blow up out of all proportion what has happened on this very rare occasion. Concentrate on the big picture of all the misery these criminals have caused to law abiding hard working citizens of these islands.

Again i ask you, are we having murders every day? You’re dancing around the question sir..

I’m not dancing around any question 8.42pm. There have been quite a few murders here and only by chance that people are still alive with all the armed robberies going on without the stabbings. By the way, i’m not a ‘Sir’ i’m A woman.

            • Jotnar says:

Just accept that your original post overstated the position. Like it or not you did say firearms were discharged on virtually a daily basis. Nothing about stabbing, nothing about “ quite a few” murders. The other poster has every right to call you on that – saying they should read more carefully doesn’t really help when all they are doing is repeating back your own words.
