Cuban migrant boat on Cayman Brac, 28 Sept 2018

(CNS): Eleven Cuban migrants that came into local waters in Cayman Brac Friday morning after spending six days at sea are currently in immigration custody on the Sister Islands, officials have said. The group includes nine men and two women; two of the migrants have landed here on previous occasions. Their make-shift boat was spotted around 10am on 28 September and was hailed by immigration and customs officers, who determined the vessel was a hazard to those on board.

For safety reasons the boat and its occupants were towed to shore, where the boat then sank.

Officials said the group appeared to be in good health but there were plans for the group to be checked by doctors on the Brac before they were processed by immigration officers. The migrants will then be relocated to Grand Cayman.

Send them back Cayman!! You may get the odd genuine people but the majority are free loaders. You’ll end up like the U.K.! Full of freeloaders draining our benefit system and committing all kinds of crime. They certainly aren’t clambering to come to the UK for our glorious sunshine that’s for sure. They are coming to you for all the benefits that you are freely offering as well. Even though I worked within CIG but now retired to the UK I am not allowed to live back in Cayman even though I can buy a property and keep myself unless I have a million $ in the bank! Yet you are allowing these vagrants by the boatload on your island. Whose going to keep them and their 17 kids???

They could also be terrorists posing as Cubans to come over. In the US, they pose as Mexican and they are terrorists. Think about that for a moment when you welcome everyone! And think about who will pay for them? Cayman will be like the US; broke from paying for others. Plus people are paying big money for papaerwork to be a legal resident in Cayman. Do you not charge those people now? Not fair for some to get there for free and others pay a lot!

CNS: The Cubans who land here are detained by Cayman authorities. They are released only if they are granted asylum, which is a long and thorough process. Also, why would they choose the hardest route possible? If terrorists wanted to come to Cayman, they could just get on a plane.

Please send them home or if they claim asylum, better still to a Spanish speaking country that will have them.

Amen 8 13. Which District did they come ashore at?
Say no to more illegals. Ship them back!!! It costs money now for their care. GC needs to stay tough otherwise bad precedents will be set!
Do you all not see that two of the illegals were here in the CI before? They are a joke. People here care and are not hard hearted but Cayman’s budget is for our own people. Say no now people or get ready for our share of European illegals!!! It is a different world. Get tough or freeloaders will walk all over us.

Hope they ship them out as the agreement between Cayman and Cuba dictates or will they stay here again and force the CIG to give them status after months of free food, clothing, a place to stay and cell phones. Viva Casa Caymana.

The government is as slow as a snail. They procrastinate forever and can’t see the light of Day. They will let them stay here and make their demands and we end up with more liability and another set of undesirables. How long does it take to process them and get them back to Cuba?
