West Bay Road Cemetery

(CNS): A man was attacked, stabbed, tied up and robbed by three men just after midnight Saturday near the popular West Bay Cemetery each. The RCIPS said that the victim was attacked by a gang of men, one of whom had a baton and another a knife. As they approached him, he was struck with the baton and stabbed in the foot before the villains tied the man up on the beach and made off with his backpack containing personal items. Emergency services were called and the injured man was taken to hospital, were he was treated and subsequently released.

During a search of the area in daylight, the police were able to recover some of his personal property from the scene. Police have now that the man was a resident in the Cayman Islands and CNS has learned he worked for a local watersports operator.

The matter is now under police investigation and anyone who may have any information is asked to contact the George Town Police Station at 949-4222.

Anonymous tips can be provided directly to the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777, or the RCIPS website. Tips can also be submitted to the Miami-based call centre of Crime Stoppers at 800-8477(TIPS), or online here.

RCIP can’t catch real criminals but they can stand up on the side of the road during peak rush hour traffic to give tint tickets to citizens going their legitimate jobs. GTFOH.

You mean like proactive policing?? What an absurd suggestion! We all know our police are too lazy for that. They like taking reports after the fact which never amount to anything.

Where should the police be walking? Crime is happening all over the island. Are the RCIP supposed to have ESP and know where and when a crime is going to go down? Wouldn’t it be easier if the public started turning in those who were committing these crimes?

No, not ESP just proactive policing, which presently does not appear to be happening. Crikey, isn’t it clear to you, 8.45am, that the public’s perception of the RCIP is less than stellar? Instead of complaining about the public not turning in criminals (an unhelpful stance) let’s get a lot more done on a consistent basis, yes, like having regular plain clothed policemen and policewomen walking about the place – no, not “everyplace”, obviously, but let’s start with a few places like Eastern Avenue, Seven Mile Beach etc. This island is only 28 by 8, can we get some action going, please, and less blaming of the public? Blimey, they need volunteers from the public to stroll around occasionally……..where do I sign up?!

If I read one more comment pointing the finger at someone else, I’m going to puke. Caymanians, we need to all be better parents. That is where it starts. We need to clean up our own house before we go blaming someone else for our problems. I know there are a lot of awesome Caymanian parents out there, but there are some that aren’t being good parents at all. I’m talking about the ones that don’t spend time with their kids and expect the schools to raise them. I’m talking about men who father children and don’t take responsibility for them. I’m not talking about being financially responsible for them. I’m talking about taking an everyday active part in the raising and naturing of our kids. The politicians have let us down and we have allowed them to. We let them sell us on pouring tens of millions of dollars in to brick and mortar public schools, yet our kids still graduate unprepared to enter the work force. I mentor kids with Cayman Finance’s Student Education & Work Experience Programme, so I know what I’m talking about. We get young Caymanians from public and private schools to assist them with university applications, preparing their CVs, showing them how to conduct themselves at a job interview, etc. The difference in preparedness between the public school kids and the private school kids is scary. A lot of the public school kids just aren’t prepared when they graduate and you have to put that on the parents. As parents, its our JOB to prepare our kids for the future. If the public school system isn’t preparing your child, then you need to sell that new Kia Optima and put that monthly payment into your child’s education. If you have to forgo some luxuries for yourself to give your kid a better shot at life, then please do it! If the politicians and government schools are failing you, take matters into your own hands and educate your kid the best you can afford to. That way he/she has a better shot of not winding up unemployed and desperate.

Im sure by now everyone world wide due to the internet have an idea of safety in Cayman. DUE TO CRIME. The Government by proxy the RCIPS have as much a share in the blame as the people who commit these crimes. The Government embraces an unarmed populace and the RCIPS quite readily accepts it. A person with mace or anything less than a firearm would not have stood much of a chance in this assault. An asp might have helped but one would have to be fairly proficient in self defense. Face it Cayman we are not safe anywhere, not even in our homes. We have become sheep to the slaughter. LOOK at who is leading you. They have relative security.

The courts are failing us. The revolving door that turns violent criminals lose on society almost immediately after they are locked up for a previous crime has to end. These violent criminals have no interest in rehabilitation or honest work and are career criminals by choice. If they are released from prison on bail or licence they need to be tagged and their movements tracked so that they know they are being watched and the authorities will know who is committing which crime.

Most of these crimes are being committed by repeat offenders. Given that the prison is not large enough to keep them locked up it is crazy that we don’t tag them all when they are released from prison after serving a small portion of their sentences for their previous armed robberies. At least then we would know which one of them is doing the robberies.

Sounds like everyone knows exactly who does the crime & just lets them get away with it, but then complains how there is so much crime.

We need to stop pretending that these Islands are the same as they were back in the seventies and eighties and start to realize that we need to give citizens the rights to protect themselves. The police can’t be everywhere all of the time and as such citizens need to be able to protect themselves against the ever increasing levels of violent crime. This should be a choice and if some people want to be victims that should be their choice.

Get a bat. The police can be some places but they really aren’t. They need to get off their lazy butts and out of their car to engage with the community. We don’t need a cop by the stop light in town directing traffic. That’s what the light is for. He should be at the crosswalk or at smiths cove ticketing fools who park in the middle of the road.

Now this is sounding like everyone is going to get at the government and make them know that the crime is. unacceptable and we the people needs to be able to protect ourselves against these criminals with guns . If I was able to legally carry a gun , and some criminal try to robb me , he would have to kill him or kill me . Just look at the gun amnesty the good people turned in their guns and the criminals still have theirs .

So CF, someone saying that crime is getting worse and the public needs to stand up instead of staying as prey and you call him Trump for it? Tell you what, let me know where you live and I’ll put a sign in your yard that says “I don’t believe in guns or to use them as protection so my house is not armed.” See how long it takes before you change your mind.

Truth of the matter is yes the amnesty had 18 weapons turned in… by GOOD people, I guess the people who used a gun to rob A La Kabob didn’t know the amnesty was going on else they would have turned in that gun right?

I’m with @12:55. my life and my family is more important to me and if forced with the choice? No a$$hole who breaks into my home with intention or not to hurt my wife or my kids is going to walk out of my home unscathed. You can continue living your life in your fantasy world and as a willing prey to these people, the rest of us in the real world will fight to protect our own.

I do not fool myself for one minute that actual criminals are turning in guns, BUT, these are potentially guns that could get into criminal hands, so stop knocking the amnesty. It sure as hell is not harming anyone! Only good can come from it.

I guess the CCTV camaras are not working?

Ohhh you mean they will be up and running when government decides to watch and socially control its citizens who protest and petitions against them! It must be …

Because whenever something like this happens, the CCTV camaras are not operational. The crimimals get away and become more smart.

Obviously your not aware the caymanians did not want every inch of the island monitored due to privacy & the government do not have the revenue to place a officer every mile to stand security guard. It’s us the citizens to blame because we don’t want our dirt to be known & forget of our safety. Then blame government of our downfall. Many people knows of who doing these crimes and support it because it’s there family or friends. However same persons will call on RCIP when they are infringe upon & expect RCIP to produce blood from stone. Those of you who support your criminal family or friends be aware your day is coming to feel the rath of crime.

The police need to advise the public forthwith if the victim was a resident or not. Why withhold this information, it will only breed speculation that it was a visitor and CIG want to keep it quiet.
