Police face new robbery spike

Cayman News Service(CNS): Police were called to the scene of two more robberies over the weekend and are now investigating four armed stick-ups against individuals and businesses since Thursday night. For the second time in a matter of days, Al La Kebab fell victim to robbers when the restaurant on Lawrence Boulevard was held up on Saturday night by four men wearing masks, one of whom was armed with a gun. A bus driver was robbed at the bus terminal by a lone gunman a few hours later.

Al La Kebab’s food truck in Red Bay was robbed Thursday night by two men who took cash from the register and a member of staff’s bag. On Saturday night at about 11:20pm, four masked armed men struck at the Lawrence Boulevard location. Police said four men, dressed in all black and wearing masks, one of whom was carrying a handgun, approached workers and demanded cash before fleeing the scene. No shots were fired and no one was hurt.

Then at about 12:40 on Sunday morning, 8 July, police were called to a report that a bus driver had been robbed at the George Town Bus Terminal on Edward Street. A man dressed in all black and carrying a handgun had approached the bus and demanded cash from the driver and other occupants. The man then fled in the direction of Mary Street with an undisclosed amount of money. He did not fire the weapon and no one was injured.

This follows a mugging on West Bay Road by the Cemetery Beach, where a man was attacked just after midnight on Friday night-Saturday morning. The victim was hit on the head with a baton, stabbed in the foot and tied up on the beach by a gang of robbers who took his back pack.

All the robberies are now under police investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed any of the incidents, saw anything suspicious in these areas, or have any other information, is asked to contact the George Town Police Station at 949-4222.

The police have effectively caused this Island to become crime ridden with their no care approach. They are great at ticketing soccer mom’s and civil servants who don’t want to loose their jobs but avoid criminals. They are targeting poor people in Hondas and leaving rich people alone. They will stop persons for laws that are rediculous but drive by their coworkers who are criminal themselves and look the other way. How many police personal cars have illegal mods and police don’t bother other police about it yet stop people and confront them with fines.

Heat index is 102•f (39•c for the rest of the world) …. can you F off with the tint tickets RCIP and do some actual police work! Citizens going to work get ticketed while there are criminals running around robbing places/people.

They need to enforce all the laws and that includes tint too.

The reason we’re in this predicament is because they aren’t enforcing all the laws and everyone knows they can get away with things… tada: rampant crime. Enforce all laws.

Dear CoP – The new (always on) lights on the police cars do not prevent crime, they just let the criminals see you coming from a mile away so they have time to get away.

Seriously who’s responsible for this stupid idea!?

I agree it’s pretty stupid from a crime fighting standpoint. It’s not necessary to have lights always on.

The police only face these robberies after the fact. It is members of the public that are facing these criminals on an almost daily basis. We need to tag all repeat offenders so that the police can quickly apprehend them and we need to stop the revolving door that allows repeat violent criminals back onto our streets over and over again after they serve a few weeks.

It’s going to be a disaster if they allow legal weaponry. Criminals in these robbery so far haven’t shot anyone. If they knew businesses were now packing you are gonna have gunfights and people will die. Let the police do their jobs.

Armed citizens can neutralize a dangerous situation a lot faster than police response can, I for one would rather depend on a good Samaritan to come to my aid than our scared of armed robbers police force who take 30 mins to respond to a incident involving guns who are secretly hoping the situation is already resolved. I can tell you one thing, knowing citizens are armed will make them think quick, especially with a stand your ground law in place.

Massive Bodden Town operation yesterday i was honestly surprise and pleased to see the RCIPS out in force ,Only to be disappointed to find out to find out that it was to catch a number man WoW! With robbers on the loose we are hunting numbers people, yet it is some what very peculiar that it appears to be only one set numbers people they after because the Jamaican Cashpot drop-pan appears to be immune to investigation or arrest especially with the known fact that it plays several times day every day. Could it be that our police service are oblivious or don’t have the stomach to deal with their brethren or interfere with the money flowing to the mother land . Yes cayman we now see what this diversity has become and partiality it brings to us all in these islands. This unity Government are a disgrace and shameful bunch.

We allowed Baines to come here and spin his yarn and make millions. He gave his spiel when question about his hire help that they are here to reflect the diversity of the community now we have replaced him with absent from public Byrne who has inherit Baine’s leftover inept lieutenants and appears to be above reproach or criticism yet he is doing the very same foolishness as his predecessor but making even more money and using incompetent token Caymanian policemen and politicians alike. This Unity Government and its stooge DG are a disgrace to the Cayman Islands. Oh but traffic offenses drug bust are up and number sellers are under pressure but even that is confine to one demographic of our society. Murders, rapes, robberies and serious assaults remain unsolved.
