Firearm recovered from Smith Cove

(CNS): A member of the public spotted a handgun at the popular beach area of Smith Cove yesterday and alerted the police. The RCIPS said that officers received the report at around 1:00pm Wednesday and sent officers to recover the weapon, which contained a single round of ammunition. Police have not revealed any other details about the gun. In addition to the weapons handed in during the recent amnesty, this gun is the ninth firearm recovered this year.

No it looks too old and primitive, I believe it was one of Christopher Columbus guns he used . Someone needs to buy it because it’s valuable antique gun .

It’s rusty, but not sure how it qualifies as an antique. Pretty sure the weapons Columbus used didn’t have magazines…

Wonder if this was why THREE RCIP cars were parked on the double yellow lines at Smith Cove yesterday morning? Without any emergency lights indicating that there was any issue.

So glad that there are honest law abiding citizens still on this island. It doesn’t bear thinking about if that firearm got into the wrong hands.
Thank God a child didn’t find this weapon. This island needs to be eradicated of these lethal weapons if we want a safe environment to live and bring up our children. The amount of violence here at present on a daily basis is astonishing!
RCIPS have got a huge task in front of them to combat all the crime on this island, and are doing their very best with the amount of officers they have.
It seems they are being criticised from all corners. I’ve said it before and i’ll Say it again, there’s more work to a Police Officer’s role than dishing out speeding tickets. There’s a lot of paperwork attached to each crime which must be in order to gain a conviction. Any little slip up and it’s thrown out of Court. It’s not as easy as one might think. A lot of man hours are required to obtain witness statements etc., to complete the case file in readiness for Court. These Officers have to complete this as the investigation Officer. This is why they cannot be pounding the beat and completeing these works at the same time. Give them a break people. Help all you can and report any crime that you are witnessed to…….you could be their next victim.

These islands have had bearers of legal weapons for quite some time. There is no physical difference with an illegal gun, and a legal gun. A gun is a gun, sadly it is people who commit the crimes, not the guns. What we need to rid this island of is the scum suckers that are committing the crimes. If we make guns illegal for law abiding citizens to bear, then we are tying our own hands behind our backs because the criminals will still have theirs, and we have nothing to protect ourselves, our family, nor our property.

12.23pm You sound like a typical Amercan red neck even if you are not. How many times have we heard that self-deceiving mantra, “it’s the people not the guns”. It is far easier to kill someone with a gun than without one.

12:23 It’s also easier to kill someone with a kitchen knife, hammer, meat tenderiser, baseball bat, machete, iron bar, length of 2×2, power drill or a motor vehicle than it is without one. I’ve seen the aftermath of all that far more times than I’ve seen a shooting fatality so where do you want to start banning ‘dangerous’ items?

The issue with firearms is that in order to do the damage with a handgun you have to be proficient in its use. I’m firearms trained and can pretty much guarantee that most of our local gangbangers couldn’t hit the side of a barn with a handgun unless they were standing next to it.

It’s also easier to hit people with cars. We see it happen, people aiming to hurt others intentionally while behind the wheel of a vehicle. Don’t hear the anti-motor vehicle police calling for ban on cars.

Your logic is disturbing. A gun is designed with the single purpose to kill, a car is not. I sincerely hope you own neither.

I agree @4:33. He sounds like the type of person that truly believes that because it is illegal it’s not going to used or if the RCIP took away EVERY single gun on the island no more will ever end up here. Must be nice living in @12:23’s world.

@1:43 you sound like the typical American snowflake even if you are not. How many times has a good guy with a gun stopped a bad guy with a gun? Oh and contrary to your belief it IS the people not the guns, guns will sit on a shelf for years without firing a single round but only when a person picks it up will it cause harm to someone. How many times have people on the island been robbed at knife/machette point. I was years ago and was stabbed during which put me in the hospital for a week with 2 surgeries. If I had my legally owned gun on me at the time, there would have been one less idiot in this world robbing people with a KNIFE!
