Dart to start work on residential areas

(CNS): The Cayman Islands’ largest developer is set to start work soon on a residential project in Camana Bay, where the homes will be for sale. So far, the sprawling mixed-used town created by Dart has focused on commercial ventures, such as office blocks and retail developments, where a number of town centre apartments were constructed for rent only. In a press release, Dart Real Estate said it had signed a deal with the NCB Group to develop the first for-sale homes south of the town centre, next to the Cayman International School (CIS), scheduled to begin in the first half of next year.

As well as the development of homes, there are plans to expand and double the size of CIS so that it will be able to accommodate up to 1,100 students by 2020.

“As the Camana Bay community continues to grow with the expansion of CIS, construction of the new Foster’s Food Fair supermarket and a planned five-star resort, a joint venture agreement with NCB Group further diversifies the development of the town centre at this important juncture in Camana Bay’s history with its first for-sale residences,” said Dart Senior Vice President of Development Justin Howe.

The homes will range from one-bedroom condos to four-bedroom townhouses, and Dart Real Estate President Jackie Doak said the partnership with NCB would help meet the demand for residential offerings in Camana Bay.

“This project is another example of the town centre’s growth as it continues to cater to those who want to live and work in an amenity-rich community that provides direct connectivity to the world-class Seven Mile Beach,” Doak added.

NCB Group Managing Director Matthew Wight described the proposed project as “innovative and much-anticipated”, adding that NCB was committed to building with the Cayman Islands’ future in mind.

“We are fortunate that Dart Real Estate shares this same commitment and look forward to delivering a successful, quality development to the wider community,” he said.

Who built the dump in the first place? Who offered to build a new modern waste management facility?
Why are the eastern districts exempt from having a dump/modern waste management facility?

Georgetown has accepted trash from the West and from the East for 40 years.

It’s ridiculous to have the dump where it is for many reasons, and it’s unfair for certain districts to force their garbage onto GT.

Other than clearing acres and acres of valuable Mangroves the Govt should request that some sort of water and soil analysis be done prior to building these homes. I’m sure that over the decades the toxins have reached much farther than one expected. Whilst I’m sure the homes will be nice aesthetically we dont want the people that live in them to end up sick in 10-20 years. Capping the landfill won’t solve what’s been down there for the last 40 plus years! Cayman already has an alarming Cancer rate that really needs to be looked at.

You’re missing the point dumbass, ALL the ads are geared to the NON-LOCAL aspect of the island. It’s the agents marketing to the foreign investors/buyers. That’s what I’m trying to get at. I guess you must be a local who can afford million dollar homes and apparently don’t see why 99.9% of Caymanians including myself would have issue with this.

It has nothing to do with me being rich or not. I am trying to say that these ads are NOT geared to local people, they are geared to bring in foreign buyers. This is just more of Cayman being sold block and parcel to the world and nothing being done about it.

So, a quick bait n switch……to the south of the business park (which is all Camana Bay really is), there’s a dump next to which they’ve somehow managed to build a school and now homes….i don’t know, something about that doesn’t seem appropriate? would that even be allowed anywhere else? and then to the north, they’ve got the britannia disaster wherein the marl road be saying that they can’t build on all the lands they’ve bought on the cheap because the rights belong to britannia owners and not the new buyers…..oops!

I can’t imagine any sane person would purchase a property near the Dump. Don’t forget they are planing on an incinerator right next to the Dump. I think the latter is even worse than the former. At least you smell the Dump’s stench and see when it burns. You won’t see, hear, smell, taste or touch an incinerator emissions in the form of heavy metals, dioxins, furans, sulfur dioxide, and hydrochloric acid.

Oh cool so that the emissions plume will join CUC’s and fallout in central George Town. Look at the predominant prevailing wind direction, GT Industrial Park is the worst place to build something with potentially toxic emissions.

    • anonymous says:

7.28am The plan is to relocate the government administration building to the dump. All those civil service heavyweights in their palatial headquarters will compress the dump to half it’s height, smother any bad odours, and for the first time in history the numbers of civil servants will start reducing. It’s a win win situation.
