Woman gang raped by masked men

| 05/06/2018 | 116 Comments

(CNS): The criminal investigation department of the RCIPS has begun an inquiry into a report of a woman being gang raped in Savannah by a group of four masked men over one week ago, though the case was not reported to police until Friday. In a very short release which gave few details about what appears to be a very serious incident, police said it had been reported that the attack happened after the victim pulled off the road near to the junction of Astral Way and Homestead Crescent as she was driving towards Bodden Town at around 4:30am on 28 May.

It is not clear why the woman stopped, but she apparently got out of her car, and as she did so she was grabbed from behind by a man wearing a mask and dark clothing who was with three other masked men.

She was then pulled back into her own car and driven to a nearby location and raped. The culprits then left the location, police said. No other details have been revealed to the public.

CID officers said they are interested in speaking to anyone who may have any information about this incident, or who saw anything suspicious in the Savannah area at around 4:30 on Monday morning, 28 May. People are asked to contact Bodden Town CID directly at 649-2220.

Why is everyone talking about why the woman decided to get out her car at 4 am? Why is no one talking about the real issue – why were there 4 men waiting to GANG RAPE someone at 4 am???

Because it is important to present the public with the details of the incident.

Educated individuals identify quickly that there is a lot of information missing from the article. Information which is extremely valuable.

If you’re going to publicize the “rape”, you have to disclose all details to ensure justice is served.

      1. She stopped for a reason; what was it?
      2. Exactly where did she pull over and did she notice anyone in the surrounding area upon pulling over, including cars?
      3. Was she drinking alcohol?
      4. Where was the last place she visited before she pulled over?
      5. Did she recognize the sound of their voices? What accents did they have?
      6. Where did they drive her to?
      7. Did they rape her in the car? (Should be lots of evidence in there if that’s the case!)

As this incident sounds to be rear in Cayman , I think for many reasons there should be more details about this topic made publicly , so that other ladies aren’t entrapped into .
For instance , if the trap was to have one lay on the road like injured, and this lady stopped to assist. I know that it wouldn’t be nice to pass an injured in need of help , but if you know that that could be part of a stunt , then you have to be prepared to handle the situation .
So I feel that more details about this gang rape need to be made publicly before the next one happens, and so that other decent men can be aware and teach them scumbags a lesson .

    For crying out loud –

IT IS IN THE PUBLIC’S INTEREST TO KNOW WHY THIS WOMAN STOPPED HER CAR!

And please don’t tell me this has anything to do with blaming the victim. If these thugs have a modus operandi, shouldn’t the public know about it??

Why don’t you go and harass the woman for more information then?

The point is to have respect and support for the victim. I’m sure if she was able to provide more information she would have. I’m sure if there was more information to provide the police would have given it.

No, it really IS NOT anyone’s business why she pulled over. It IS, however, in the public interest to know why 4 men thought they could rape her and get away with it. Stop victim shaming.

It only matters for the rest of us if there was really no random masked men but some sort of liaison that went really bad. Not saying it was right either but it would be easier to wrap your mind around than 4 masked men driving around looking for some poor woman at 4:30am. If it’s true what was reported then we have a very serious problem that requires desperate measures. A dangerous liaison on the other hand can be handled differently by the police .

By asking why a lady pulled off the road does not mean we are blaming her for being gang raped. We just want to know if she pulled off the road because she saw a suspicious package on the road, or a person lying on the road side she thought may have needed assistance. I once stopped on the West Bay Road where Wendy’s is located, as there were cement blocks on the side of the Road and got jumped by two guys. And you bet they were sorry after I fixed their faces for them.

And has for talking down Cayman most people only come here because the money has value to where they are coming from, they don’t love Cayman they only using this beautiful Island for reaching somewhere. 1. The usage of Amen, meaning “so be it”, as found in the early scriptures of the Bible is of Hebrew origin; however, the root from which the word was derived is common to a number of languages, such as Aramaic (Jesus spoke Aramaic).

          2. As the chief deity of the Egyptian Empire, “Amun-Ra” also came to be worshiped outside Egypt, according to the testimony of ancient Greek historiographers in Libya and Nubia.

You therefore know nothing of what you are speaking of, please do some proper research as you are providing misleading information.

You don’t need the “for” at the end of that sentence. “Why did she get out the car?” would suffice.

So getting out of a car at 4am means she deserves to be gang raped? Who cares why she got out of the car? Why are you more concerned about her actions rather than the actions of those that did this to her? Maybe she was tricked into stopping her car. Maybe they threw something at her car and she thought she had hit something so stopped to check it out. Any amount of things could have happened and you know this, but are hell bent on making her look bad. Why? You need to take a hard long look at yourself and learn how to be non judgemental amd more compassionate.

This statement is a perfect example of victim blaming. This is not about what the woman was or was not doing, what she was or was not wearing. This is about the will of 4 men who felt the need to express their power over another person in a violent way.

The time for blaming the victim is NOW!

I don’t think they are blaming the victim, just trying to understand the circumstances. The details are important, partly, so that whatever method they used to get her to stop and get out of the car aren’t successful again. It is a set of unusual details that is troubling, probably could have been phrased better, and shown some sympathy for the victim, but still an important question for future safety of others, assuming this isn’t a weird one-off.

For this reason she didn’t want to give too many details…the community will victimize the victim as it is being done now. This is the reason Women don’t come forward as our society is train by the male figure (passed down to the female) that if this happens it was obviously the woman fault. Again we don’t need all the details we need to be more supportive, encouraging and respectful to victims like this woman.

Remember we all have women in our lives that we care for, next time it could be one of them and will YOU go tot he press and give full details of her? I don’t think so, so stop judging and start supporting.

Well said. People around here love a good scandal and gossip. Even something as serious as rape they stoop to skeptisim and victim blaming. Even women. Many assume the woman deserved it by the way the victim dressed or behaved. Take the case of Errington Webster. KT and her crew jumped right on the prostitution card and said the 15 year old who he abused should also be charged. Sick.

What matters is she allegedly didn’t consent to sex, meaning she said No. Some of theses comments are very insensitive and need to be deleted.

These types of crimes will continue to happen as long as our politicians and police continue to refuse to allow people to be able to defend themselves against these violent criminals. Maybe 4.47 pm you meant to say “Pepper spray” as you will never, ever get “tasers” in your hands legally. In many countries, pocket sized pepper spray cans can legally be purchased over the counter for personal protection, for eg. USA. When crime against the person gets out of control, there is a strong argument in support of personal possession of pepper spray cans. Very unlikely to happen here, as we are a BOT. and it has not even been raised as a topic for debate in the UK. Pity.

You can buy hand held stun guns perfectly legally in many US states. Agree they are currently illegal here but to suggest that it is inconceivable that civilians could have access to them is misleading. Particularly when then you go on to say pepper spray – also illegal here – is acceptable in many countries. So are hand held stun devices.

Not saying she wasn’t, just that the report is entirely silent on it, which is what has fueled all the sceptical comments here, which in turn has brought out all the posters interpreting their comments as being anti woman, pro rape or victim blaming. Appreciate CNS can only report what they are told but greater clarity from the police about the circumstances might have helped focus attention on the alleged assault and dissuaded less speculative comment.

Having lived and worked in the US, UK, Ireland, Luxembourg and Cayman, I can attest to you that Cayman is still a wonderful place to raise a family and live well. I found the UK, Ireland and US to be racist societies (or, at the very least, implicitly biased). People labeled as “minorities” in those countries are deemed third class on sight, regardless of their background, education, etc. Meanwhile the people that should be feared and mistrusted are instead trusted on sight (notice any similarities with the men accused in this #me too era?). Societies riddled with corruption, violence, and greed. Just turn on the television news from those countries if you require proof. And you’re calling Cayman “horrible”?

So if Cayman is horrible to you, I can’t imagine what utopia you came here from. It must be a lovely place indeed. Or perhaps you’re just a troll looking to stir us up? There is a lot of that going on these days.

This is a disgusting statement to infer that whole societies are racist in nature. I would bet that 99% of the societies you speak of are not racist at all. It is sad however that the 1% of society makes statements like this possible as their hatred is magnified a hundred times over because of the 24 hour news cycle and social media. I believe it is actually racist to generalize a race because of an individual’s acts. I am curious as to who deemed anyone third class on sight and why anyone should be feared or mistrusted because of their skin color.

Racism will never end as long as people like you perpetuate this vitriol. Teach your children love and to take people for who they are as individuals not generalize the whole group because of a single person’s misdeeds.

I don’t believe when God made man that he made one of each race. People over time have found ways to divide societies and this is one. Live righteously and just pray that the people you encounter choose to do the same.
