Blaze

(CNS): After many years in service in the United States and another four years sniffing out contraband here in the Cayman Islands, Blaze, a Customs Department dog, is now being retired from active service and needs a new home. A Beagle mix, Blaze arrived from the Sheriff’s Office in Maricopa County, Arizona, in 2014 and has been working hard ever since. But now it’s his time to relax and enjoy life and the department is keen to find him a suitable and loving retirement environment.

Blaze was described as an eager, silky coated dog who will do well as a single dog in a family that is active and can provide walks and pursue other activities with him.

“We are now looking for a new home for Blaze, who has served the Cayman Islands people and the government faithfully and always eagerly for a number of years now,” said Jeff Jackson, the deputy collector in charge of Border Protection. “Blaze certainly deserves rest, relaxation and happy family time going forward.”

The K-9 Unit’s senior officer, Malachi Powery, said Blaze was put to work in Cayman almost immediately after his arrival here in 2014 from Arizona and said he had earned his well-deserved rest. “We are looking for a good, loving family to provide Blaze a happy home for the rest of his days,” Powery said. “We are particular and want to ensure that Blaze goes to a suitable family who will treat him very well. He has been a loved member of our K-9 team.”

Anyone interested in adopting Blaze who believes that they and their family can provide the right home can email Jeff.Jackson@gov.ky or Malachi.Powery@gov.ky.

Sad that there seems no room for humour or sarcasm, or perhaps the real “dunces” don’t get it! My comment about corrupt Sheriff Joe tainting the pup was clearly in that vein. Perhaps you’re a true Arpaio fan, which explains your lack of humour and your response! Sad for you!

Hope Blaze is adopted into a loving home soon.

We all know that all retired Civil Servants get a retirement package . Does Blaze get the same retirement package ? Or any at all .
I hope that whoever adopt Blaze don’t continue to work him for personal gains, and give him good and loving retirement like he deserves .

I hope he doesn’t end up dumped at DOA aka death row like they did with the dogs on the BARK prison programme.

This has got to be a ruse. Blaze is going under deep cover. Once adopted he will be required to report back to K-9 unit on a weekly basis for a debriefing.

There are a lot of people who are willing to adopt Blaze and take him “walking” on the beach every day.

Someday, cayman born dogs will serve the Grand Cayman Government and no need to buy dogs outside the Island. And you can bring these dog to the test and participate a fun run competition abroad to be known and be proud that this dogs are bred and trained in Cayman. We are developing detection dogs and you will hear from us soon. Im willing to share this knowledge to Caymanians.

At least they’re trying to find him a home instead of dropping him off at the Humane Society shelter, as the 3 prison dogs were dumped when they were ‘retired’ a few of years ago!

I believe they were actually taken to the Dept of Agriculture and were close to being euthanised when the humane society got them. At least that’s what I was told when I adopted one of them. So far as I am aware, all have happy homes now, no thanks to the government official who sent them to death row. I really hope this doesn’t happen to Blaze.

You thank him for his service as if he had a choice. K9 dogs obviously don’t choose that kind of life.

Depends on what you define as work “Uncivil Servant”.

I hear you all love to play in the private sector….lots of (snorts line) “fun”.

It’s okay to point out the persons who work for the CIG who seem to be incompetent, lazy, etc. But what’s most ignorant about most of your feedback, is that you generalize about the entire civil service constantly; like you know every single person and their performance at work.

Your broad generalizations not only show your ignorance, but also your hatred for Caymanians as we all know the majority of employees in the civil service are Caymanian people.

Most civil servants work very hard. To show the poblic exactly how much they do in a day, they all should should go on strike.

If you do not like the reputation of your employer and it’s employees, find somewhere else to work!

      • Anonymous says:

That’s not true. I once asked the premier how many people work in the civil service. He said “about half”.

Good luck blaze! My cat wouldn’t appreciate any more company or else I’d take ya.

Just a reminder to spay and neuter your pets, cause that needs to be said on this island. I know it has nothing to do with the story.
