Dain Damean McPherson

(CNS): A former warehouse man at Foster’s Supermarket has been sent to jail for six years after he was convicted of wounding with intent for hitting his supervisor on the head with a hammer. Dain Damean McPherson (33), who is from Jamaica, was working at the Countryside branch of the supermarket when he attacked his boss, which he claimed was a result of persistent bullying. McPherson had claimed self-defence but CCTV footage clearly showed the worker pick up the hammer, pursue and then attack his victim, hitting him on the head several times.

As he handed down the sentence via video link, Justice Michael Wood said that the evidence against him had been “overwhelming” and it was clear that McPherson was not acting in self-defence, even if he had been provoked, and that he had the clear intention of doing his victim harm.

The judge said it was clear from the CCTV footage that McPherson had attacked the supervisor with the hammer and caused him a severe head injury. And even when his co-workers had taken the hammer and disarmed him, he had picked up a knife, albeit for just a few seconds, illustrating further intent.

Justice Woods told McPherson that it was luck that his victim had not sustained an even more serious injury. With very little to mitigate the situation, other than his previous clean record and many references indicating that this was completely out of character, the judge jailed the man for six years and recommended his deportation once he has served his time.

Such a shame to see thumbs down for comments made against this imported savage. In his homeland he would have killed the supervisor and/or the supervisor or someone associated with him would killed him. It is a daily occurance. People there have no regard for human life. Ask any decent one of them who themselves cannot live in such a lawless society.

I understand that this is a serious crime. However, if you rob by gunpoint, molest children etc., you get a slap on the wrist. Who the hell makes these rules?!

sooooo, a deranged man loaded with an insane amount of child pornography… a teacher no less, gets 1 year and this guy gets 6?? I’m sorry but that’s just messed up!! As a parent, I’d much rather have that sicko who enjoys watching child porn behind bars for 6 years and let this guy go back home after 1! What’s up with the judicial system?! So whack!

The lecturer got 3 1/2 years not one, and this guy not only chased his defenceless victim before striking him repeatedly but then went for a knife to finish the job, but don’t let the facts get in the way of your rant. Damn lucky to get 6, not that I disagree that the lecturer should have got a stiffer sentence, but you can’t just go around making shit up

last week a judge gave a 1 year sentence for a woman attacking another woman with a knife – TWICE, the 2nd time as she was on her way to the police to report it ! this week a man received a 6 year sentence for attacking man with a hammer after being provoked.

    how?

yea yea…I think its foolishness how he get six years because of the evidence, but that sicko pedophile teacher had tons and tons of evidence and they couldn’t convict him for longer than 3 teeny tiny years, because they didn’t have a reference point…..hey! theres a first for everything and they should have made an example out of him.

This man probably was bullied and harassed by his boss/ supervisor and he obviously didn’t react in the most socially acceptable way, but because the camera only caught what he did and not what he had possibly endured, he is guilty.
    The justice system sucks!!!!
And that is why certain crimes/ criminals shouldn’t make it to court.

Shame we don’t have any agreement with Jamaica that would let us deport him to serve the sentence in his home country. Not only would that probably work out cheaper but he’d learn what real jail time means.

We could easily make such an arrangement, if we had the balls to confront Jamaica with anything!

You are obviously a newcomer. Before Northward was built, prisoners serving 12 months or more were sent to Jamaica where they ended up in General Penitentionary; no-one went back! Those serving less than 12 months spent the time in the cells on the top floor of Police HQ.

The reason for building Northward was the poor conditions in Jamaica, but at least one sentence was enough and there was a deterrent effect as well so the number of criminal cases was lower.

With only 1/3 of sentences actually served, this is effectively a two year jail sentence and deportation upon release. Please let’s not forget that last part.

With the new sentencing rules your comment is simply wrong. Minimum of 60% time served. No Canover deal for this boy.

To say nothing about protecting the rest of us against a guy with that level of anger management issues. Chases unarmed victim. Strikes him repeatedly. Stopped but then tries to get a knife to keep going? Dear God. Wouldn’t want to spill his beer in a bar.
