(CNS): A woman who was the victim of a street robbery on Sunday night attempted to fight off her attacker when she was grabbed by a man who had his face covered, according to the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, who said that they did not receive the report of the mugging until Tuesday, 24 April. The victim said she had been walking along South Sound Road in George Town at about 11:45pm (on 22 April) when she was approached and grabbed by a man with a t-shirt wrapped around his face who demanded her handbag.

The woman told police that she had thrown her bag down and then struggled with the man, who attempted to pull her into some nearby bushes. At that point she shouted for help and the man then grabbed the handbag, ran into the bushes and disappeared. The woman sustained minor bruises in the incident, police said in a release.

The suspect, who was wearing boots and plaid shorts as well as the clothing over his face, was described as being about 5’8”, of slim build and with a dark complexion.

I think we need a Cayman Islands chapter of the Guardian Angels to be in the streets here at night providing Defence and assistance to the public. Those guys are trained in martial arts and will disarm and destroy these idiots in 5 seconds. I was saved by one years ago while waiting for a subway and two me. Tried to rob me. He left them unconscious on the subway platform.

I would have thought after the last attack on woman , that every woman would be carrying their baseball bat and balls to take care of these no use scumbags that I won’t call man or boy .

“Offensive weapon”, law is the problem.

You could be charged for carrying a bat, even it is just for your own safety.

Who does the laws really protect? Certainly not the law abiding citizens.

Anonymous 11:33 am , if women are carring their base ball bat and balls , no one can’t say that they aren’t going to play baseball . Then you had to use it in self defense .

Funny the details, I see a lot of women carrying sticks with them. I saw let them protect themselves. Sticks, bats, pepper spray, 4″ blade.. .45 glock.. That $hit has to stop. Women deserve the right to walk/exercise on the street without fear of attack.

Sad, and maybe racist, but foreign or not these lowlives invariably seem to have a “dark complexion”.

Yes, just like the shooting massacres carried out all over the U.S.; always a white kid terrorizing his own.

Skin colour sure does come with its stigma.

Sidenote: in the age of smartphones and Google maps the RCIPS really need to use location services technology when filing their official reports. South Sound Road doesn’t extend into George Town urban center (if that’s where this happened). South Church St gets close, but it’s Harbour Drive at that point. Unless we’re talking about the Electorial District of GT South or GT East? Impossible to tell from this report – and sometimes these details matter to the public!

Dude, don’t get your panties in a knot. The previous commentator just made a simple observation, that Cayman has become a rotten paradise. I am sure that he or she does have that right to make the comment. Second, after every negative comment that you make, do you always take action (ie. Man, refereeing in World Cup soccer is getting worse and worse.)? I doubt it. Third, why do you assume this person is a foreigner?

Immigration keeps letting in people that have half a weeks works so they turn desperate in Cayman. Beyond the criminals with fake identification form Honduras and Jamacia.

If Immigration is letting in people with fake documents then Immigration officals should be fired. How is it that they find out documents are fake after the fact?

Does Immigration keep a record of each Business and how many Work Permits they apply for and how many are active? Are the inactive ones checked with whether the person is on island or left?
Little Businesses, especially. Little Businesses with a Paper Cayman partner?

Sounds like he wanted to rape her. I don’t think that a half a week work causes anyone to do that.

Maybe..but just as likely to have been a thrill-job for one of our own native sons. We just can’t generalize that these are imported problems. Court and prison records demonstrate otherwise!
