Governor Anwar Choudhury tours Faith Hospital with (L-R) Education Minister Juliana O’Connor-Connolly, HSA Sister Islands Director Dr. Srirangan Velusamy, HSA Board Chair Jonathan Tibbetts and Faith Hospital Administrator Yvette Dilbert

(CNS): The governor was singing the praises of the hospitals on Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac following tours of both facilities. Anwar Choudhury told officials that the Health Services Authority (HSA) is comparable to some of the best hospitals in the UK, stating that the hospitals had “blown me away in terms of the quality”. He was said to have commended the staff, including CEO Lizzette Yearwood and Medical Director Delroy Jefferson, saying they should be proud of a “great organisation” and an important national infrastructure that everyone relies on.

“From the moment I walked in — the cleanliness, the organisation — I thought it was very impressive and I kept on comparing it to the very best hospitals I have seen in the United Kingdom,” said Choudhury. “When I fall ill or my family falls ill, this is where I will come to. So it’s a very, very important institution to us and I was really impressed.”

Officials from the hospital said in a release that during the tour the governor explored various departments, interacted with staff, asking them relevant questions about their units, their roles and responsibilities, and mingled with patients to find out how they felt about the care and quality of the services.

He said Faith Hospital was an impressive facility for an island of Cayman Brac’s size and commended the hospital’s PAC system that enables the hospital to archive and send X-rays digitally to Grand Cayman. The governor recommended that the hospital engage as soon as possible in telemedicine, which allows healthcare professionals to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients at a distance, using telecommunications technology.

Hospitals in the states are better looking but I find this place just fine. I do wish the hospital was in better condition considering I pay as much for insurance here as I did in the US. The people are always great though. The maternity ward has wonderful staff.

Is the hospital perfect? No it isn’t but I tell you what, if I have to be sick I’d much prefer being sick here and taken to HSA than anywhere else in the Caribbean. No slight to Shetty hospital because I know they are also doing a fantastic job up there to. You people need to count your blessings. Oh, while your complaining please remember to pay your bill. If they can collect even hslf of what is owed they will then be able to do all upgrades necessary.

GT is a good hospital with good staff. For those thinking otherwise, before judging, suggest visiting a few more islands!

Will someone please tell him it is not correct to wear a hat indoors, especially one like that designed to shield you from the sun, and even more so at some of the locations he has toured. He’s always wearing it or holding it/not sure how to hold it, like during his swearing in. He should hand it to an aide before entering a building on a tour. He may not be aware that he is showing a casual disrespect by doing this, because he is otherwise being very respectful.

He is being paid to say this. How would it look if the Governor stated anything different. First thing though is he should now get his eyes checked, for HSA is deplorable. Go to the ER on any given day

To be fair to the ER, it’s cluttered with undesirables demanding attention with no real medical needs.

You clearly have never been to a hospital on any other Caribbean island; our HSA facilities are 5-star in comparison and the staff; at least any that I have come in contact with, are wonderful, caring and professional.
