Experts needed to help support troubled kids

| 03/04/2018 | 13 Comments

(CNS): Judicial Administration is looking for people in the community who have wide knowledge and experience in child care or law to join an important court panel. The Children’s Law provides for the court to appoint individuals to this panel that safeguards the interests of youngsters involved in court proceedings that could lead to care or supervision orders. The guardians ad litem help the court make a decision in the best interest of the child.
Successful applicants will be tasked with finding out the wishes of the child and independently assessing the case put forward by Department of Children and Family Services and by any parents or other parties. Relevant people have to be interviewed and reports prepared for the court. The guardian will need to be able to give evidence in court to support the views they have formed.

The deadline for applications for membership of the panel is 6 April.

All the At-Risk youth in the cayman islands have some sort of disability. First thing first proper meals every day and that is not happening lots of charities but the the most needed not being helped and if they do they are not getting it on time and are not receiveing enough help charities is ran like a beggers club in cayman all the funds being raised for all these years and it is more people starving in cayman more than before those needs have too be accepted by the society and most of all in the school system, workplaces, court system, psychiatric system and the counselling centres. Stop the stigma and discontinue the negative and bully talk about those people are just acting that way or their parents just have them that way spoil. Don’t wait until it hit your home before you decide too accept this is a real thing in the cayman islands. The saying goes come see me but come too live with me. Proper morning, evening and holiday programs is long over-due. Stop the talk Action if a little person start such a program the wealthy will take it over instead of giving the little person great sponsors and supporting the little person ideas they will take their ideas and make a money business out of it that is the reason it can not get any better in cayman greed and bad mind there is no cure for those.

The whole of the Children and Families service needs root and branch overhaul. There are a few great social workers but the majority of them are not up to the job. They do not advocate for the child in a way that is appropriate, they lack expert supervision, and truth be known are just plain unprofessional. I blame the lack of leadership and an unwillingness on their part to properly take into consideration the views of professionals who actually work on the ground with these children.

People from the community?? With all due respect Cayman, You have no people in the community with this kind of expertise otherwise you would have had them a long time ago!!! YOUR Government refuse the much needed expertise to take the MASH team forward. So i’m afraid you’ve got no chance! It just looks good to advertise for people to think that this Government is doing something about all the problems this island has in respect of child protection.

The court is not the only place needing experts in this area. The entire social services and child care system here is appalling, antiquated and run in such a cartel manner that they refuse to accept any reliable advice from experts and workers with specialist knowledge, instead making work life so awful for those individuals over successive years that they all end up leaving in despair.

Shouldn’t be too hard to find some experts… CNS commenters are experts on everything it seems!

A you are quite right. We also need a panel to investigate the parents, many of these children are not only fatherless, but were born unwanted, out of wedlock with a complete lack of responsibility from those involved.

On judicial website: “A briefing and familiarisation session will be held on Wednesday, March 21st “ Why only now share with public if the time has expired to get to know more about this important role.

The breakdown of traditional families has lead to multiple generations of aimless purposeless young people. Alcohol and drug use within families continues to provide poor examples.
