Solis’ and Brooks’ wedding

(CNS): A Honduran woman who married a Caymanian man almost three years ago while she was still married to another man she had wedded when she was just 16 years old was jailed for two months by a Grand Court judge Friday. Kenia Yadira Alonzo Solis (29) will be deported on completion of the sentence in what has been a tragic case after the man she unlawfully married, Aric Brooks (28), took his own life a few weeks ago. The court heard that Solis came to Cayman when she was just 14 years old on a false passport under a different name.

It was said that she was facing some gang-related danger in her native Honduras and her family had assisted her to leave on the forged travel documents in 2003. At just 16 she married a local man, whom she accused of being violent and abusive, but left him the following year and returned to Honduras. But Solis came back to Cayman under her real identity in 2014 and soon afterwards met Brooks, whom she married in 2015.

However, last year she was convicted of assaulting Brooks following an altercation between the couple, when she smashed a wine glass into his face. It is understood that soon afterwards her bigamous marriage came to light. The court heard how the revelation had come as a nasty shock to Brooks and caused him significant distress. The judge said that Solis had deceived Brooks, who was angry and upset, according to a statement he had given to police some time before tragically taking his own life.

The crown had impressed upon the court the significance of the crime, compounded by the Cayman Islands’ position as an attractive jurisdiction for destination weddings, and that this kind of an offence could put the island in a “poor light”. The prosecutor asked the judge to consider that when imposing his sentence.

Justice Wood found that it was a serious violation of the marriage law and the case warranted a term of imprisonment. Given Solis’ immediate guilty plea and admissions, he cut what would have been a three-month term to two months and ordered her immediate deportation once her time is served. The court heard that Solis had already been fined $4,000 for arriving in Cayman on a false passport.

That’s how it is. He get’s a trophy wife (if she’s pretty) an the privilege of being her ATM or retirement fund.

It’s basically legalized prostitution because she doesn’t really contribute anything emotionally or financially yet she benefits from his naivety and generosity.

The government really needs to stop air travel between Cayman and Honduras. It may stop a few of these people coming to Cayman.

Unless you’re effected by any of this , it will always be the same ..young people are making poor judgement in decisions ,and choosing partners ..it’s not all about the outside beauty , ask God for the right directions in life . Such a fine young man to be gone from us .may his mom find strength in the Lord . From a broken hearted mom of the same .

She was clearly a victim of mental abuse by men that caused her to act as she did, she cannot be blamed. We need a womens liberation movement on the islands or other women will be the held responsible when itis not their fault.

The amazing part of this comment, was not that the ignorance of it, but rather that there were actually 8 other people with the same delusional thoughts that liked it. That’s a bit less than 10%. These people are actually walking around this island. Scary thought.

For avoidance of doubt, women make up the largest portion of the electorate, highest # of college graduates, estimated to as a collective receive more in wages than men, preferential treatment in divorces, file approx 90% of divorces in Cayman, receive about 200% more Government social services, are recognized for representing the highest proportion of abusers (but least penalized), influence approx 83% of consumer spending, higher life spans…

the shear ignorance of this opening comment is amazing…

I have a sneaky suspicion that Anonymous 3:43 is actually a man trying to sabotage the womens’ rights movement by posting such a ridiculous comment.

However, if I’m wrong, and it is not a man, then this woman needs to realise that she has caused enormous harm to the cause she is trying to promote, by automatically blaming men for horrible acts committed by a woman!

Adultery is a criminal offence in Cayman?

    • Anonymous says:

No doo-doo brains. Adultery is grounds for divorce and it voids any claims she may have had to alimony, child support, etc. She’s a blood sucker, so the key is to dry up the blood so she may still be draining from the original source (hubby #1).

The family should sue Immigration for not doing thorough background checks. Had they done so, young Brooks may still be alive as it is quite possible that he would never have met Solis much less marry her.

interesting that they got her out of Honduras on fake documents to get her away from dangerous gang persons and yet it appears that she herself had a very dangerous and violent streak in her. Sounds as if she was very much involved in that gang culture that finally turned on her. Lets take note about who we bring in (we have enough troubles of our own that are home bred and Cayman (especially the Immigration Appeals tribunal) be careful who you give asylum to. take note.

There is a high correlation between racism and a failure to grasp basics of English grammar. Why are narrow minded bigots like you so flummoxed by apostrophes? Oh yes, I remember, it is because the stupid and poorly educated often are racists because they like to blame weaker sections of society for their utter mediocrity.

Honduras is the easiest country in the world to obtain fake documents through the legal system that’s in place. Tell them what you want and they print and give the documents too you on the spot. No screening. Corruption is a way of living there so when they migrate they bring it with them. All Caymanian’s see are the days gone by when the two countries shared families. Now that both have changed Cayman needs to drop that outlook and start protecting itself from the inward corruption Hondurans will bring to Cayman.

My point of view is that ALL foreign nationals that do a crime regardless of how petty to serious should be deported.

You sound like typical slave master from back in the day. Be careful what you wish for. What you should be advocating for is that regardless of the race or nationality our young men choose, they choose them on valid merit. Ie. Compatibility, loyal woman to the marriage and a good mother if kids involved and LAW ABIDING. not this nonsense of stick to your own. Not sure your gender or age but I presume you’re with a caymanian and your kids will be forbidden to date “the other kind”?
