(CNS): FIFA has rejected an appeal by former VP Jeffrey Webb against a fine imposed on him for his part in the massive corruption scandal. In addition to the millions of dollars he has handed over to the US authorities for his convictions in relation to the bribery investigation, Webb faces a fine in excess of US$1 million by his former employers. Webb has not contested the lifetime ban from the game imposed on him after he was convicted of racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering conspiracies. However, he did challenge the fine.

In a release from FIFA, officials said the appeals committee determined that the fine imposed was “adequate”. The statement continued, “Consequently, Mr Webb’s fine and lifelong ban are maintained.”

FIFA has also claimed some $2 million from the US authorities in restitution for Webb’s part in the corruption.

Webb was the president of the Cayman Islands Football Association, enjoying a glittering career in international football administration, when he was swept up in the massive US case against FIFA officials and sports firm executives relating to bribery and corruption around the world.

He has since pleaded guilty, but almost three years after his high-profile arrest in Switzerland at a luxury hotel during a FIFA meeting, he has still not been sentenced and remains on bail in the United States with a sentencing hearing set for September at a Brooklyn court after numerous adjournments.

However, since his conviction, Webb has handed over $6.7 million to the US authorities.

Sin is sin whether large or small. I condemn Jeff but there are so many others out there that should not even speak. Also not just Caymanians but other Aliens like wise. We need to pray for all those who want to reach the top of the ladder too fast in a dishonest way. This goes for the small and the big. Someone was telling her Helper a few weeks ago that stealing is stealing despite the fact that her church so often speak out about it. Just calling and receiving a dozen telephone calls per day is cheating the boss of a lot of time. Sometimes up to two hours cheated per day. So Mr Jeff I do not give you right and feel disappointed in you but you do have a lot of company big and small.

When will CIFA make their claim ?

CIFA has no balls [ excuse the pun ] and unlikely to make any claim against Webb and his co-conspirators. Just check out the clubhouse out at Newlands. CI$750,000 for 1500 square feet ! You work out the numbers. Then check out the cost of the pitch. And just where were the auditors, I ask. All nicely swept under the plastic pitch.

Uhm… that’s cuz he’s a liar and a cheat. Most people actually didn’t know what was going on and may have been momentarily proud of what we thought he had rightfully earned. I myself was in awe of just how far he had made it… until… we learned the truth. Period. Despite government’s inaction many of the people of Cayman are disappointed and disgusted with Jeff, etc. So go easy on those who celebrated with him when they thought he was a good guy. It’s a mistake that we could chalk up to being human… not just Caymanian. Just sayin’

He seems to be thinking in that picture “what will my next scam be?”.

Coming from an amateur football association from a country with 60,000 people, do you think he rose to second in command of the world’s largest football federation based on talent? Think about it. Hmmm Not!
