Jamaican canoe interdicted by the RCIPS on 2 March 2018

(CNS): The police arrested three men and recovered a .38 caliber revolver handgun, 49 rounds of ammunition and several packages of ganja weighing around 250lbs after a canoe chase in the early hours of Friday morning involving the police helicopter and the RCIPS Joint Marine Unit. Just after midnight, officers on border protection patrol came upon a canoe with three men on board, which sped off when they saw the RCIPS boat. But a little later the Air Support Unit spotted the men dumping what turned out to be the drugs overboard.

Following a short pursuit by the JMU boat, the police intercepted the canoe and detained the men. A search of the area recovered the ganja packages, and when they were later searched, police found the gun and ammunition. The RCIPS said that the drugs would have had a minimum street value of around CI$162,500.

The three men, Jamaican nationals aged 58, 41 and 37, have been charged so far only in connection with the drugs. They were expected in Summary Court Monday.

everyone is always beating down weed, when in cayman they choose to sweep things under the rug alot (foriengers with criminal back grounds given government jobs, children being molested by family & family friends)

Mr. Webster is the 1st cayman that has been given the most serious jail sentence in cayman history for what he didi, when other children are being molested and hwne they speak up, the parents say they are lying, like really wtf, why would a kid lie about that kind of stuff.

i know of government officals who smoke weed in cayman. their are alot of expats on island that some weed. if cayman was to open up a dispenser you will see the difference. the money can go towards the country. instead of government borrown millions of dollars and do nothing with it but line their pockets.

alcohol is legal, but how many has a family member that is a drunk.

domestic voilence is a problem, but nothing is being done. you have government people who beat up their wives, and then at the end of the day want to tell the population what to do with theirs.

wake up cayman, stop hating on a plant that has many useful attributes, and focus on what is going on in this country.

    caymanian with no work
kids graduating and dont have a job
    kids being molested
    domestic voilence

yes police did a good job with the bust. but for all of you that seem to forget marijuana (ganja) is a plant, that has helped with alot of medical issues. cayman is the only place that seems to have it backwards .

Doesn’t matter how many they bust boh. Two loads came through easily bout a week or two ago. Just got off work and relaxing with a little joint.. Just legalize it, why is this illegal lol.

I’d rather chill out with some herb and get an appetite than go back to being an alcoholic that can’t control my anger then ends the night throwing up.

If it were legalized to be grown locally, there would be no demand for the black market lords to profit from. We would also remove the major incentive for illegal immigrants and firearms to be brought over.

You stop one boat and 5 others have already gotten through. It’s futile – too many people demand to enjoy the herb these days.

This is a medically recognized plant.

Reduce enforcement costs, free up about half of the space of Northward (we pay millions to keep people in jail for a simple spliff but allow cigs freely), generate tax revenue, create jobs to support the economy, destroy drug lord’s profits.

No, makes too much sense to do.

It makes sense that it isn’t legalised because I bet it isn’t just the crime lords that benefit from it on the black market. A corrupt government if you ask me.

I don’t even like it but agree completely. Prohibition of weed is arbitrary and futile.

Have we not learned from the prohibition of alcohol?

The mafia earned millions through black market smuggling, money was wasted on pointless enforcement, and it eventually was legalized again (we can see the same trend in the USA reoccurring like de ja vu).

        • To the says:

Might as well copy Holland. Drink drive fine. Drug drive car crushed. (Minimum fine).

No point growing weed for commercial use. Majority of the islands, America and Canada getting ready to rush the market.

All we need to do is bank the money.

What good you and others would be to womankind??? Go figure…that amounts to a much higher GDP!!!

I don’t know if that’s it. Cocaine seems to be very popular here (and that also comes from a plant). Legalize that too? Oh and what about the guns? they seem to be very popular these days too, to hold the rest of us up for money. Unless you think legalizing marijuana will make the home invasions, restaurant and store hold ups go away I don’t think that is the real solution to our growing problems.

Give a man a job to grow it and tax the sale instead of locking him up and ruining his reputation over a plant. Consequently as he is released and has no work options since no one wants to hire someone with a record, he steals. Simple solution to a non violent crime which prevents more serious offenses.

    • Anonymous says:

yeah – and legalizing child porn would reduce the amount of police work. Idiot.

A grown adult using marijuana and child porn are not really the same now are they? Who is getting hurt by me bunning a skliff in my back yard? Idiot.

        • Anonymous says:

The poor Persons who grow it and take the risk to cross the seas to earn more money than they can where they grow it. The very young kids in Cayman Who start smoking at an early age and can’t find their way in life. And since their parents do it or have moved on to something stronger there’s no one to guide them. It takes a few persons to conduct an illegal transaction. If it’s not marijuana it will be cocaine or whatever illegal activity will earn more money. Someone always gets hurt. You just didn’t realize it.

If you think because the parents smoke pot they are going to let their child smoke it too you are dumber than your post.

Use the money from all illegal drugs that you have now made legal and send these “poor persons” to rehab. Not everyone deals with alcohol but the majority do just fine and go on to raise wonderful children. Would be the same with regulated drugs.

Take a step back from your bubble and have a long hard think about what you have said up there.

And to the poster who equated legalizing child porn to pot smoking, holy sh** dude. You are too far gone for us to rescue and bring back to the real world. Good luck in life, you are really going to need it being that stupid.

            • Anonymous says:

You’re a very scary person. Read who they referred to as the ‘poor persons’ and then read your response. Not entirely sure where the reference to alcohol came from. Your entire post seemed to be just a rant that made little sense. Perhaps you shouldn’t refer to anyone as being dumb and perhaps you should stop smoking pot!

The economy, the futures of pot heads who lose concentration and the ability to learn whilst studying, employers, social services, employees, (all of them get harmed).
