Human bones found in BT remain a mystery

| 14/03/2018 | 18 Comments

(CNS): Human remains that were found on a piece of land in Bodden Town last year during excavations on the property had been buried there for at least 75 years, but experts have been unable to determine who the person was. Forensic archaeologists and anthropologists in the US have now completed their examination of the bones and were able to give the approximate time that the remains have been buried, police said. But the examination did not reveal any obvious cause of death or injuries or any positive identification.

As a result, the RCIPS said the bones will not be subject to any further legal or medical investigation.

Although forensic and police inquiries were unable to determine who the person was, all relevant and interested parties have been made aware of the findings of the examinations. Police said they will now liaise with the Coroner’s Office to determine the best course of action for a proper return and interment of these remains.

Wow, so many forensic experts here all knowing more than…. well the US forensic experts…anyone see an issue with that or is it just good ol’ doubting Thomas me?? Seriously, where do people get off here? If an article is about Dart, everyone is an expert on tunnel construction and how ugly it is even though its not finished and no-one here ever built a tunnel. If it is about snorkel deaths of tourists, everyone knows all about that and how it happened, despite knowing nothing at all. So much BS…how about using that time to go learn something?

I do believe the phenomenon is referred to as “commenting”
So-called “commenting” is often filled to the brim with another phenomenon called “speculation”.

Hypocritical as it is, it is part of our history, the “marl road” has always been how information was spread here, today it just happens to be online rather than an actual marl road (though some still prefer the actual marl road)
We all know of our history of ambulance chasing (siren chasing might be more appropriate) and gossip-chaining information from house to house
This ain’t anything new, also as for the persons all seeming to have a professional opinion on various occurrences in the news, you don’t need a degree to be able to comment on something, and you can certainly be a well informed and educated commenter without having what some would consider professional or expert training

We should be able to differentiate persons making reasonable comments and persons putting on a show pretending to be experts on a topic, I don’t think anyone is claiming otherwise, a lot of these comments are simply trumped up opinions

Who is we? This is an ignorant assumption. A vast majority of the comments are just negative or like OP said, presumptuous opinions by arm chair experts aka blind leading the blind. Its more indicative of the real problems facing our community than any of the articles that are being commented on. Pretending it isn’t harmful is a folly. It’s 2018, time we cut the ignorant country shit out and evolve as a culture instead of continuing to embarrass ourselves like the title of “land time forgot” is some kind of positive accolade. Stop promoting this cultural immaturity.

I agree Diogenes, and I respect their right to express an opinion, with the exception that sometimes people should just learn that when you know nothing, its best to say nothing. The clearly trumped up ones are so clearly believed by their authors that Trump himself, the King of Trumped up, would be proud of them.

There are unmarked graves in every district. As property charges hands and neighbours die or move away they become forgotten. Years later the present owner excavates for a septic tank or driveway or whatever and the remains are uncovered.
A mystery about nothing, but it is sad that someone lived, died and left nothing to show for it.

I remember after hurricane Ivan there were old bones scattered all over the small old cemetery (across from the caves and beside the church) in Bodden Town. Upon further inspection of the eroded bank of sand we saw even more remains that were not even a part of that cemetery! (We did notify the authorities). We have to remember that Bodden Town was the first capital and it dates back before the 1700’s. So anything was possible back then.

What about the Bodden Town guy who went fishing and never came back? Not Ivan and Yoggie, this was long before that. I always heard the story that he was buried under the front step of a prominent Bodden Town family. Their name was Forest or Trees, or something like that.

No one claims carbon dating or whatever method these persons used to date the remains is an exact science, these methods are used to give a general approximation. In regard to fossils they tend to get rather large variations of potential dates but with something like relatively recently deceased human remains should be dated quite accurately. (in the grand scheme of things 75 years is less than a fraction of a blink of an eye in regard to time)

I have seen a few comments and claims on social media from the more conspiratorial among us that this is some big cover-up by the CIG having to do with any number of the persons who have gone missing in the recent past
To which I say what interest would scientists from the US have in lying in their report, while to us this was a curious case and find to them they are probably just one set of bones out of hundreds or thousands they are testing

So now the questions should be asked, was this just a random burial of someone who died naturally in the past, or is this the leftovers from an unsolved crime dating back decades
Of course we pretend crime didn’t exist in Cayman before the 1990s when in actuality we were in the process of building gallows when the UK forced us to repeal the death penalty

So those saying it is Ms. Anita Baker (on her behalf, may she receive God’s justice), they got it all wrong. The lady is still missing …

In the old days people use to bury their dead love ones beside their homes. Thats how they did it. And as time went by, the markings of graves faded away. These forensics are not that accurate. The body could have been there 90 to 100 years ago.
