Edward Hendricks Hydes

(CNS): Edward Hendricks Hyde (39), who survived after being adrift at sea for eight weeks last summer, has been reported missing again. Family members told police yesterday evening that the West Bay man has not been seen since Friday, 29 December, when he was last spotted by a work colleague. Hyde is of medium build, about 5’ 8” tall and is mixed race with a light complexion. He made headlines last year when he was found alive after he was feared lost at sea. He had been on a fishing trip with Chadwick Bodden, who did not survive the ordeal, when the boat’s engine failed.

At the end of July, Hyde was rescued on the verge of death by fishermen off the Mexican coast, drifting in the boat in which he and Bodden had left Grand Cayman in June.

It is not clear if Hyde has gone to sea again but he has now been missing for almost two weeks.

Police are also still appealing for information on another missing West Bay man, James Orville Ebanks (56), who was also last seen on 29 December. It is not clear if the disappearances of the two men are connected.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call West Bay Police Station at 949-3999. Anonymous tips can be provided to the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777, the Miami-based call centre of Crime Stoppers at 800-8477(TIPS), or online here.

last time he was on a fishing trip, but almost dies at sea for no food supply. think if he had actually gone fishing, he would have some fishing gear? just saying. a supposedly fishing trip goes sour, and you cant fish to stay alive for 40+ days. And the public bought that story! Makes me wonder about the direction of this country …

Can someone please hide his shoes, boat engine and boat should be successfully found again. As the adage goes, can’t teach a dog new tricks, well in this case you cant fix stupid. I hope and pray for his family that he is rescued in good health.

I am “on the spectrum” and often find it difficult to pick up on subtext/innuendo and other non-literal communication. Thankfully the CNS comments section is as subtle as a mallet so I get to be in on the joke too…

When talking about about people that are missing i wouldnt think that another human could even consider mentioning the word “joke. It takes all kinds to make this world we live in and remember we all have a bad habit even if some are kept in a closet.

I agree totally. Even if you have no respect for the missing person have some for the family who are decent people. There is always one child that doesn’t follow the teaching of the parents

If I had been lost at sea for 40 days and then miraculously found alive, boy, I would not even take a bath with the bathroom door closed, much less leave Cayman in a boat! I feel sorry for the pain their family and friends now have to endure. I pray that there will be a happy ending to this adventure.

If he is gone to sea again, I hope that he learned a lot from his first experience and not just didn’t say that he found Jesus. because he nearly lost his life the first time. I wish him a safe return.

    • BELONGER says:

He needs a completely new “John the Baptist – Baptism” to turn his life around.

Word on the streets in West Bay is that he and James O. Ebanks aka Bula – are in Jamaica. They had their boat taken away because the owner of the boat did not pay up for his last shipment of square groupers. In essence, they are only stranded in the Back River area without transport back to Cayman.

They will be back within a few weeks – once plane tickets are sent for them or they will catch a ride back on one of the many illegal canoes that visits our shores on a weekly – monthly basis.

Don’t think they’ll be back if the story about the boat owner is true.

      • Anonymous says:

Maybe the illegal canoes will bring someone to capture the owner of the boat then he would have to stop using these stupid people who is probably just getting a small piece of a square grouper.

heard its 4 people. and the other dude that went missing last time as well and was found. has also gone missing. (not hydes, but thomas) fishing trip perhaps will be the excuse this time … once again. with no fishing gear.
