Men robbed by gang in WB Road parking lot

| 17/01/2018 | 64 Comments

(CNS): A man was treated in hospital this morning for a head wound sustained during a robbery in a car park on the West Bay Road. Police said that four men were in a parking lot north of the Galleria Roundabout shortly before 3:30am when two vehicles, which appeared to have been a sedan and a light coloured CR-V, pulled into the parking lot. Three men, one armed with a machete, and a woman, got out of the vehicles, approached the four men and demanded cash from them.

A struggle ensued and one of the four men sustained a small laceration to the back of his head. The culprits made off with some personal items, and left the scene in the same vehicles. The victim was taken to the Cayman Islands Hospital, treated for minor injuries, and released.

Investigations are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call George Town Police Station at 949-4222.  Anonymous tips can be provided to the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777, the Miami-based call centre of Crime Stoppers at 800-8477(TIPS), or online here.

I see a lot of talk on here about importing police officers is one of our number one problems. As a Caymanian of course I would prefer my law enforcement officials to be Caymanian as well; and it can obviously be expected that local criminals will have no respect and no fear of overseas officers as they would their own people – the lack of respect for foreign officers will make local criminals more vicious with their crimes despite the fact that their crime is hurting their own country.

There is a lot of talk amidst young people and young “gangstas” about the “dutty police” this and that.

However… I am not sure how many people remember the RCIPS recently holding TWO job drives trying to encourage Caymanians to join the force… what of that? They tried – where are our people with the interest to take on these very difficult positions?

Shouldn’t you respect authority ( police, Teacher, parents, etc) no matter one’s race? Maybe that is one of the problems.

Time to build a wall around WB to keep crime out of the other districts.

Actually, I was told by one of the victims who is Jamaican, that the attackers were Jamaican who now live here. They got status by “chain migration”, through family who were here.

    McKeeva’s status grants!

Well it seems that the victim told the wrong person that information because the police states that the only clue they got is the looks of the vehicles so far……

  3. Anonymous says:

I hope the investigations team is smart enough to scour Evaytrade for the only clue which seems to be a very loose description of these vehicles. Lots of light coloured CRVs for sale with phone numbers!

And meanwhile, news from a nearby island, from which corrupt Cayman polititions are importing a new underclass too stupid to vote them out of office, and from which Caymanians, too lazy to chop a bush or sweep a yard, are importing cheap labor:

    http://jamaica-gleaner.com/article/news/20180114/murders-gallop-61-first-13-days-new-year-police

Read it and weep. Caymans’ future if nothing changes!

So sad our island has turned into this criminal infested swamp. No one is safe here anymore unless you are living and working in a gated community. For years we have seen this coming. With the 3000 status grants and the now permanent residency fiasaco. All implemented by the two political parties. How many more innocent people are to be hurt, robbed or violated? The now Premier indicated his administration was going to reduce and rid guns by 60%. I would like to ask, what steps are being implemented, how will you measure that 60% and when how will it be implemented? What message are we sending to our residents, our tourists the international world. It’s high time bobo before more lives are lost, you loosing the reign on crime and yet, no solution to the problem. All we have so far is a lot of hot air whilst the Wild West returns.

Enact a catry concealed firearm law open to native Caymanians who take a training course and are of good character. Problem solved as soon as the first Jamaicanized thug is dispatched and word spreads to his ilk. Or, as a classic author put it:

Tough talk, but Caymanians aren’t going to shoot their nephew, or their second cousin’s baby momma’s 3rd child, that has struggled all his life without a dad. These are the local thugs that pack our criminal division cause lists.

Yeah arm us as we will be killing the unruly caymanians and in return they will seek revenge.

The problem is this migrant police force needs to be dismantled before it becomes a bigger problem than it already is and that is not going to happen until this FCO police advisor is either removed or relieved of his duties. Our political dingbats are too dumb to understand that CRIME is essential component or element in controlling and ruling all overseas territories, without it there is no work to be had no equipment to be sold and no money to be paid or made by those who are in charge of these overseas territories.

This rinky dink police service is not part of the solution it is now part of the problem how many people out here have had really bad or negative experiences with them which has lead to a serious lack of respect or confidence in them and the attitudes displayed reflects very clearly their countries of origin. How truly sad for the Cayman Islands. which leads me to a final point there is no way the ruling power with all its so called “experience” are not or werent aware of this outcome or consequences of hiring such persons. Which in my humble opinion is exactly how they intentionally and wilfully plan this awful and hopeless position we find ourselves now facing. Oh but our political idiots are either stupid or in on it because they too love that Money we keep handing out to them every time crime reaches a crisis or another milestone. Rewarding Failure seems to have stricken our Government too eh Alden .

How many “light-coloured” CR-Vs are there? Can we please train future-at-risk-victims and investigators on how to note and give valuable witness testimony? A partial plate number? Proximity to ATM cameras? Exit direction of travel and time? Anything more useful? We can safely add this one to the expanding warehouse of unsolved mysteries.

Look at other articles today…its CIG holding up court work, not the UK. Its mostly Caymanians in Northward…which says what? Come on, next conspiracy theory to avoid any accountability at all?

Problem is that too many criminals are protected by so called human rights laws which hamper the effectiveness of police trying to FIGHT crime, instead of “Managing” it as some CPs have labelled it. What price the human rights of a population crying out for protection from criminals?

Dont put American in the same group as Cayman, you have your own problems that you created and have spread to the US -not the other way around joker.

Young Caymanian gang swarmings from those that feel they have a birthright to physically “even the playing field” by stealing, robbing, beating, and raping anyone that they figure has it coming because they were not born here. It’s an all-too common theme passed from generation to generation. Even if caught the DPP may not bring court action if the correct MLA or minister intervenes on their behalf after their arrest. There is broad sympathy in the community for the many Caymanian criminals that have been left behind by progress, as though crime is the unavoidable and justifiable means to make ends meet.
