Cayman cools down as chilly weather comes south

| 05/01/2018 | 58 Comments

(CNS): Experts at the Cayman Islands National Weather Service have explained that while Cayman has a tropical climate, we are positioned far enough north to be affected by the current cold fronts in the United States. With snow as far south as Florida, the nip in the air that everyone is enjoying right now in Cayman is as a result of that same surge of cooler air from the continental North America, which has pushed south into the western to the northwestern Caribbean Sea.

The passage of these types of cold front systems, which usually produce fresh to strong north to northeast winds and rough seas, can last up to a week. This current cold snap is producing fresh northeasterly winds, which will keep temperatures lower than usual for the next few days.

With climate change deniers seizing on the extreme cold weather in the US as some kind of proof that global warning is a hoax, many scientists have waded in to explain that 2017 ended as one of the top three warmest years on record. And while certain parts of America face some of the coldest weather for years, other areas have been experiencing significantly higher than average temperatures, and just a few weeks ago California was consumed by wildfires.

Energy and Epigenetics 4 is a blog where a lot of time is spent explaining how what is happening around Australia is a “canary in the coal mine” for the rest of the planet.

It is a large piece, but you can narrow it down to “The Australian Donut Hole: A Proxy Lesson for Modern Humans”

Hah! And still there will be a chorus of left wing, snowflake, scientists screaming that it’s bad to throw plastic in the ocean and pump chemical waste into the water table.

I remember around thirty years ago it was usually cool like this around this time of year. No one venture out day or night without sweaters!! However I do think climate change has everything to do with these extreme weather we are having now. I guess we can all do our part to help the planet but the large industrial countries could do much more. Too bad some of the leaders of the countries causing the most damage can’t comprehend what is happening.

There have been many great swings in temperatures for millions of years, and humans have only been here for only a few thousand years. Look at prehistoric temperature charts.

Look at the temperature on Venus and why it is hotter than Mercury.

Do you think it might have something to do with each day lasting 118 earth days and the fact that Mercury has nearly no atmosphere whatsoever? What an ignorant strawman argument.

        • Diogenes says:

Don’t forget the runaway greenhouse effect that has taken hold on Venus which all but prevents heat from escaping the planet
Thick clouds of Carbon Dioxide engulf the planet and what do you know it just happens to be the same gas that we have been pumping out constantly in massive quantities since the industrial revolution

The co2 level on Venus is 2400 times higher than Earths by percentage of atmosphere, its 33 million miles closer to the sun. The Earth had cooler climates with 800 times current co2 levels. We know absolutely nothing about the historic climate of Venus. But feel free to draw completely unfounded parallels.

By the by, the polar ice caps on Mars are getting smaller with essentially .6 of Earth’s atmosphere.

    • While it is true that there have been temperatures changes over millions of years, what is really startling is the exponential rise in temperatures over the past 25 years everywhere on earth. Each of the past 5 years annual temperatures have risen year on year. That is what concerns so many people.

“humans have only been here for only a few thousand years”

First off, that is incorrect. Secondly, just because other factors can and do contribute to long term and short term climate shifts, that does not mean that the modern human species as a collective has not.

I would not point out the California wildfires as proof of global warming. The cause of the California wildfires is most likely carelessness or arson.

Carelessness and arson have always been around. The long term lack of precipitation and the resulting propensity of the local eco-system to major wild-fire events. The issue is then what caused the change in weather patterns in California.

California is only dry now because of corporate and farming greed. The water table is exhausted and even wells are running dry because of over-use by industrial farming techniques. Otherwise Cal would only be dry in the summer. As its not wet enough in the ground for forestry assets, those assets are drier and more susceptible to fire events. Nothing to do with global warming, though global warming is a fact.

Coming from Southern California, I can almost guarantee you that most of those fires are caused by arson… Whenever the Santa Ana winds kick up, the crazies come out… Especially now with cameras on the 247 and PCH, they view these @$#holes all the time.

Yes, climate flux is real. However, we humans have nothing what so ever to do with it. One volcanic burp puts more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than a decade of human activity. The left wing climate change hysterics are just a ploy to obtain power and money.

CNS: This is just not true: “Published estimates based on research findings of the past 30 years for present-day global emission rates of carbon dioxide from subaerial and submarine volcanoes range from about 150 million to 270 million metric tons of carbon dioxide per year, with an average of about 200 million metric tons. These global volcanic estimates are utterly dwarfed by carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel burning, cement production, gas flaring and land use changes; these emissions accounted for some 36,300 million metric tons of carbon dioxide in 2008, according to an international study published in the December 2009 issue of Nature Geoscience. Even if you take the highest estimate of volcanic carbon dioxide emissions, at 270 million metric tons per year, human-emitted carbon dioxide levels are more than 130 times higher than volcanic emissions.” Read more here
