The current was not the problem for the two men snorkeling off Cemetary Beach last Saturday. Dr Lamb, who passed away, became short of breath and told his brother-in-law, Chuck, who was with him. They turned around to go back to shore and Dr Lamb said he was having continued problems breathing. Chuck said you float and I’ll pull you. They were talking along the way and then Dr Lamb stopped talking. Chuck pulled him a great distance before their wives, who were waiting on the shore, heard Chuck yelling to call 911. The autopsy was just released and confirmed Dr Lamb suffered a heart attack. Chuck, who is a champion swimmer and former lifeguard, had nearly reached shore when the very nice fireman jumped in to assist. It is truly a miracle Chuck was able to get Dr Lamb back to shore. We are so appreciative of the many kindnesses we received from the Grand Cayman police and hospital doctors and nurses.

My condolences to the family who has lost a loved one. Is it time to revisit the question of whether a life guard made a difference here?

Yes, 6.35am I tend to agree that due to the amount of swimming deaths on the island consideration should be in place for lifeguards. Granted, they cannot be placed everywhere and lives will still be lost. However, I think they should be in various spots along SMB. This island has a vast amount of tourists and not one lifeguard is situated anywhere.
