Hyundai Grand i10

(CNS): George Town police are investigating the case of a missing rental car that was not returned by the customers who rented it. The police did not say which rental firm the 2017 white Hyundai Grand i10 was hired from, nor did they say whether or not the people who rented the car were visitors or residents or what type of ID they had used to secure the rental. In a short release, the RCIPS said they received the report this morning (22 November) about the car, registration 173 136, which was rented on 27 September for one week but has not been returned since.

Anyone with information regarding this stolen vehicle is asked to call 911 or the George Town Police Station at 949-4222.  Anonymous tips can be provided to the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777, the Miami-based call centre of Crime Stoppers at 800-8477(TIPS), or online here.

Um. Why has it taken 7 weeks for this to be reported? Long enough for the entire vehicle to be stripped down and sold as parts or shipped out. Smelling a bit fishy if you ask me.

Presumably the hire company have a scan of the persons driving license/passport etc…? If this had been advertised on September 5th that might have helped…or Immigration consulted to see when they left the island…..? Surely the company didn’t wait until now before it dawned on them that the car wasn’t going to be returned?? What’s the matter with everyone? Nobody has any common sense. It’s like Harbour Drive being closed every time there’s a jump up, at the exact time thousands of people are trying to drive home.

If they truly want help finding it information on the person who rented it would be an awfully good start.

Let’s put the super expensive RFID chip technology to work and track the car, that’s one of the reasons we purportedly got it isn’t it?

    • Not the OP says:

No, it wasn’t. IIRC tracking cars was specifically one of the things it would not be used for.

Would and could are two very different things. If the capability to locate a vehicle exists then it could be used which we were told the police would do in the case of a crime being committed with a chipped vehicle. Pretty sure theft qualifies as a crime.

        Yeah right.

First thing they do is take the plates off and file off all the VINs on parts.

So it should have been returned early-October, but we find out now? Ball has been truly dropped by someone here.
