Christmas jobs to make Cayman ‘NICE’ again

| 17/11/2017 | 42 Comments

(CNS): Following comments by the premier in the Legislative Assembly yesterday that government would be running the annual Christmas clean-up, officials confirmed Friday that they are now seeking applicants for the three-week programme. The National Community Enhancement Project (NICE) 2017 will provide opportunities for the unemployed to work for up to two weeks before Christmas and one week after by enhancing the physical environment for the benefit of the community. Workers will do repairs and maintenance, gardening, cleaning parks, beaches, beach access and roadside verges.

The project is only open to unemployed Caymanians 18 years and older, and unemployed spouses of Caymanians who have the right to work. Rigorous vetting will take place to ensure that only those who are eligible are accepted into the programme. Contracted workers will be paid $10 per hour, foremen will receive $12 per hour.

Application forms can be picked up at all district libraries in Grand Cayman and from district MLA offices, the Needs Assessment Unit, the National Workforce Development Agency and at the Government Administration Building’s reception area in George Town.

Mandatory registration and training will take place at the Lions Centre on Tuesday, 28 November, at 9:00am. Applicants will need to bring a completed application form and supporting documentation with them to prove immigration status on registration day.

The project will also take place in the Sister Islands under the supervision of District Administration.

The work begins on Monday, 4 December, until Friday, 15 December, and then again from Monday, 8 January, to Friday, 12 January. For further information, please call or send a WhatsApp/text to the NICE Hotline 917-0153, or email NCEP@gov.ky

Well there was a party at dart park yesterday afternoon because the sign is still up on the cabana. I’ll refrain from posting the persons name but the party that took place is definitely not in the garbage as there is litter all over. People who rent a cabana should have to clean up the area afterwards and there needs to be someone that goes and checks it the day after. Hopefully they send a lot of people to dart park to clean.

Maybe if you stopped littering then these people wont have a job to do like what you want. Or maybe just leave them alone and theres a 80% chance you wont get mugged for christmas.

Bet Alden does an employment survey to show how low unemployment is even though he is giving away all the manager level permanent jobs with his liberal PR and work permit policies.

I have to think that most people don’t understand that what Government is doing when they give Caymanians the Christmas job is VOTE BUYING .
I believe that Mr Bush started that . I know that there was Laws in place that if a Caymanian are qualified for the job and the Caymanian fought for the job a work permit was hard to obtain . So maybe this is Mr Archer’s situation , and the other people who are just getting a Christmas job is another way to keep them happy and quiet .

I don’t understand what you all are bitching about.

Funds are budgeted to employ Caymanians to give them some Christmas money. Necessary work gets done. What’s the problem???

I would like to see the necessary funds budgeted for this to happen all year. I imagine some of you would have a problem with that. No pleasing some people.

The Recreation, Parks & Cemeteries Unit (RPCU) of Public Works is already tasked with of general upkeep and cleaning for many of the recurring problem areas. How many times should we (the Public) want to pay to get the job done? Is “once” too few to ask for our corrupt vote buyers?!?

Was this annual million dollar vote buying giveaway actually a recurring line item in the recent budget, or will it be “found” and misappropriated from other budget allocations as it has been in the past? We are only days into the new budget!

First of all XXX you ain’t paying anyone, and the mess just doesn’t come from locals alone, the majority of it comes from you people that are from third world countries that are already riddled with garbage because that is what you are a custom to the rest comes from people who have been spoon feed all of their lives they can just throw their garbage anywhere they want because someone is always expected to pick up after them, the cig just uses this clean up thing to give the locals a chance to make a little money for Christmas because most of it will be sending through one of the money transfer places

Look around the building sites and you will see where the mess comes from…and the workers walking to them or from them…

What?? what kind of deranged tangent are you on now…Let Marco fight his own battles. He is a grown ass man with lots of money, don’t involve him at this level. He had nothing to do with the way he was hired. He is the right man for the job. He got the job but the rules were circumvented by the powers that hired him. Nobody is trying to get him fired or take away anything from him.

Now come help me pull some bush nah..

Tolerate it by taking it and earning some cash. You may meet a new contact who may be able to lead you to something more permanent. Maybe you might impress someone with your hard work. But with that attitude I doubt it. It amazes me how some would prefer to have no money and be miserable because their pride and ego are in the way. Opportunities lead to more opportunities. Sitting on your ass bitching on the computer all day leads to nothing but a boil on your butt cheek and empty pockets….
