Cayman Islands Premier Alden McLaughlin

(CNS): Anyone who wants to get the ear of the country’s leader while enjoying a posh dinner can have exclusive access to the premier later this month if they are willing to part with $2,200 for a party of eight to dine at his table. It might be some three and a half years before the next election, but the PPM is throwing a fundraising dinner this month. The party is hoping its wealthier supporters are willing to part with some cash to fill the party coffers in exchange for access to their elected member, while enjoying food and jazz at Grand Old House.

While dining with the premier and seven other guests will set a donor back $2,200, dinner at a table with other elected Progressive members will cost just $2,000 for a party of eight, while dinner without the pleasure of a politician at your table is $1,500 for eight diners or $150 per head.

The party fundraiser is scheduled for 22 November. Bookings should be made by 15 November.

And to see Will Smith at the Cayman Alternative Investment Summit 2018 will have a price tag of US$2,625! The public should feel utterly insulted as there should be a $20 price tag to see the Premier as a comparison.

Why would anyone want to have dinner with this man?

I’m sure the wealthy/wealthier voters will be there. They want to make sure their orders are being carried out. They run this island!

Next time do a boxing fundraiser. Pay to box with the Premier. You’ll get more funds for sure.

We elected this man. In theory, he works for us, the Caymanian citizens; in actuality, our input is not required nor sought. Mr. McLaughlin does not make himself accessible to the people. Our MLAs are elected representatives who — for the most part — do as they wish once elected, regardless of the platform upon which they are elected.

Mr. Moses is accessible to the people. Very few — if any — of the rest are.

Beaumont Zodecioun , I completely agree with you , how can he be so disrespectful to the people who elected him and he suppose to be representing.in a small Island .
Why do he think that it’s so important to throw this kind of thing in the face of the little voters ? This is said to be fund raising . The price tag doesn’t say that it is any support that he is looking from the little people.

To all the people who vote for Politicos like him . Ask yourself the questions . How much access do you have to them ? How often do you get the opportunity to sit down with them and discuss the problems that you see ? Why hire an employee if he is not going to do the job you want him to do , but do it the way he wants to . Why isn’t he making himself more accessible ?

I think that if he charged $25 per person at the Country and Western bar he would raise 10 times the money and double his supporters. But that way he can’t have private conversations . What are private conversations all about ?

There is nothing theoretical about it, he DOES in fact work for us, the people of the Cayman Islands.

The problem is the general populous cares more about the premier league and where they are going to be on a Friday night, than ensuring that the legislators are looking out for their interests.

      • West bay Premier says:

Diogenes , yes he does work for the people . Which people ? But not the little people that voted for him . If he creates any jobs , they are sold for work permit revenue. So what good is that for CAYMANIANS they don’t need a work permit. Is he talking about fixing that situation ?

When he did all the development and the Caymanian voters can’t even get a days work out off it , that’s not helping the little voters . They might get a little handout, what good was that to them ?

No thank you! Just lost my appetite! Why would anyone want to spend money to eat a meal with Alden?!?! If you want to talk to him, just do a little bar hopping and you should find him. That’s free which is the most anyone should have to pay for his presence and conversation. #Keepingitreal

But if some man or woman with an accent and claim to be maybe a book writer or some foolish mention, you would be the first to scum up the money to meet and greet.
This is the Premier of Cayman.

Give the man his due. If he did this in UK, he would be sold out in a minute.
Alas, a man is not a man in his own country.
Caymanians don’t even give him his title respect, how much more do we expect the outsiders?

Mr. Premier, keep that head up and that hair straight ole boy.
Be a Premier. (Just like Donald Trump has his haters, many more are his supporters.)
Cayman’s Premier. Stay clean and resign with good a conscious.

Don’t be comparing him to President Trump . I think that President Trump is for the people, but the Premier is for the select few people and the Government. That’s why it cost $2,200.99 to eat a plate of curry goat with him .

This is why I stopped voting for this party. Bunch of malarchy! Shame on you all fundraiser or not! Instead of encouraging the donors to donate to tangible worthy causes.
    Sickening!

I’ve had enough with this dude! He can’t even be bothered to walk around his district when running, he gets voted in, once elected he still can’t be bothered to come by and see how things are.
Now he wants a fundraiser for a party of 8 to have dinner with him…
He won’t be getting my vote, mind you it won’t make a difference, the idiots in our area will probably put him back in.

Does no one understand the concept of fundraising? This isn’t about having a conversation with the premier, Cayman is small enough that’s you’d eventually run into him anyway.

@Goodheart – I appreciate your sentiment. But have to been to the grocery stores lately? $2,200 may feed 4 families for one month. But it certainly isn’t feeding several families for several months. Not at today’s prices.
