Police accountant admits breach of trust

| 11/10/2017 | 44 Comments

(CNS): A police accountant pleaded guilty Wednesday to breach of trust in connection with the abuse of a Kirk’s Supermarket charge card given to the RCIPS on which she is accused of charging more than $7,000 of unauthorised spending, over $4,000 of which was never paid back. Sara Connor (39) and her colleague at the time, Siscley Solomon (43), were both charged with the misuse of the shopping credit cards meant for legitimate RCIPS purchases, but Solomon absconded while on bail some time last September. Connor had denied the allegations and was due to face trial this week but made the admission just before the case opened.

After admitting the breach of trust offence Connor was bailed until her sentencing hearing, which is expected to take place at the end of next month.

The crown’s case against Connor is that between August 2013 and July 2015 she used the Kirk card on more than 50 occasions to make unauthorised purchases totaling over $7,400. Although Connor and her co-defendant Solomon, who ran up a separate debt of $9,000, were at first paying off the charges, several months before their arrests the payments stopped, leaving a significant debt.

In September 2015 Connor made the last payment of $1,000 on the card she was using, but after that the payments stopped while the debt on the card was still well over $4,000. In an effort to recover that debt the supermarket manager who had been dealing with Solomon eventually contacted the financial controller at the RCIPS, and in March 2016 the misuse of the cards was exposed.

Connor and Solomon were arrested and charged in August 2016. Solomon failed to appear in court after she was charged and the court heard that a few days before she was expected to answer bail, she left the jurisdiction, understood to have headed for Canada, and has never returned.

Yes because Sara is Caymanian, isn’t she? If it was an ex-pat this medium would not be able to hold the nasty comments made by you and others. So you all need to stop bashing Ex-pats as People like you blames them, thankful for CNS who highlights them and their nationality. Well as you can see Caymanians are messed up too.

I know Sara and she is a good person, no matter what she always smiling and she has a kind heart and a hard worker. It hurts me to read these comments. She did not ask to be in the situation she was in. Of all the years she has worked at RCIPS she never did that before so obviously she was desperate to feed her household. Social Services will not help you if you’re entitled to child support. So what are you to do when you can’t get a court date until months away, you can’t qualify for a loan and your kids are hungry? I am not saying what she did was right but the odds were against her, I’ve seen mothers do worse to feed their children. She made attempt to pay it back and she stayed here and took her licks. You have no idea what was going on in her life to put her in that position. Why una don’t chat the person who left the island as soon as sh*t hit the fan?

Listen, sara could feed her house hold if she wanted to but she choose not to. I bet you she has the latest iPhone, and I see her in clubs, bars and on Instagram posting pics of champagne that cost 500 a bottle. She has a dead beat baby father that just stays home all day and play video games at the age of 33, her two duaghters don’t even live with her.

Sara, always live this no care attitude and I know sara, the food she bought was for herself, buying breakfast and lunch, when she get paid she going out and party her last cent away and then bawling that she broke and things are hard, and government do assist her and she living in a government home.

Ppl need to stop finding excuses for her, no one tell her to have children she can’t support and have them with 2 different baby fathers that are worthless.

Having children suppose to be plan, not a mistake. If you can’t afford to feed yourself how in the world you can feed your child???????

She is just a thief – if she wants something she should wait till she can afford it and anyway she was in employment so there is no excuse for stealing – she needs to lose her job and be made to pay it all back.

Boy una people really will sit here and talk like this. She was and still is a good worker. Further more it was in a supermarket. For food it looks like to me. If it was for clothes shoes nails and whatever else you all would give her right. You Cayman people are some wicked people. Guess what it ur own that puts you down all the time. Wages need to go up then so we can afford to live as Caymanians. And as for her partner they should bring her back to face her charges and not let Sara face them on her own. Unfair system and MLA’s.

You sound like exactly the type of person would currently be doing something just like this in your workplace and justifying it with this lame excuse against the system… There is no reason to be apologetic here. Especially when you initial deny a charge that you know full well you are guilty of. Solomon is unrepentant and Connor appears to only be sorry she got caught and didn’t have somewhere far away to hide like her friend.

LIFE100% BETTER IN THE UK YA RIGHT!!

They life was 100% better in the UK ya right.!! Caymanians leave Cayman about going to live a better life in the UK and every month they family members have to send money from Cayman so that they can survive eat and live.

They be calling they friends back here in cayman asking and begging for money and plane ticket to come back and visit. Life SUCKS in the UK only if you are well off that you will live a good life there!!

I know this for a fact I have friends that have they families members leave Cayman and living in the UK in the slum area and inside the apartments looks very ghetto and poor yep they leave Paradise The Cayman Islands to live in the slums of England.

These Caymanians need to try Live and survive in they own country. Don’t worry the Queen soon run all of them back to Cayman.

❤️? I LOVE MY COUNTRY WILL NOT LEAVE THE BEAUTIFUL ISLE CAYMAN.❤️?

You are really badminded! Get real, Paradise lost , if paradise was still in effect Caymanians would not have to leave Paradise for a better life, Gone are those days, Trust me if you come to the UK and apply yourself you can have a better life. However these Caymanians you are referring to are the lazy ones who expect to go into another man’s country and wait for a platter to be delivered go them. It doesn’t work like that. Excellent opportunities are in the UK better than in Cayman. I would rather take the slum treatment to live in the UK than be facing eviction in Cayman. Poor old lady’s handbag stolen from a funeral, flowers stolen from a grave, people begging at funerals, afraid to leave your property on the beach, mothers stealing from their workplace to feed their children, upsurge in gun crimes, unsolved crimes the list goes on and on , IS THIS PARADISE? FYI The QUEEN will never run back Caymanians to Cayman! The whole UK knows what’s going on in Cayman. Feel free to stay. I left for a better life and was priveleged to obtain same thank you.

Money troubles was always Sara problem…….. from the old days of Tower Building. If anything, I’m very surprised that she lasted as long as she did in RCIPS Accounts. Putting a government credit card in her hands and telling her to use it responsibly, is like giving a gambler a credit card and expecting him not to use it at the casino he entered.

Why is Government giving out all these Credit cards, they could had account at Fosters and wrote a check for them at the end of month. we are tired of Govt. wasting our money. stop giving out Credit cards, make them use their own cards and present the bill to Govt. to pay, or run account wherever, STOP THIS FOOLISHNESS.

      • AnonAnon says:

Well if money wasnt her problem why use the card then, was it sheer stupidity? Seems like she found herself in some sort of a pickle why she resorted to the unauthorised use of the credit card along with Ms Siscely Solomon. And, fyi what the DPP did was charge her for each time the card was used which totalled 50 plus times so thats 1 count for each use. What they decided to do after talks between the prosecutor and defense attorney was to charge her for one count of theft for the overall 7 or 9 thousand plus dollars that was swiped on the credit card.
