MLA deserters cost PPM government cash and grief

(CNS): The three MLAs who deserted the PPM government benches during the last administration cost the public purse $16,300 in additional constituency allowances, the parliament heard Friday, much to the amusement of members. When asked by Kenneth Bryan, the independent member for George Town Central, why the appropriation had increased, Premier Alden McLaughlin said that when the three former members of his last PPM led government (Alva Suckoo, Anthony Eden and Winston Connolly) crossed the floor, their constituency expenditure went up.

“When they were with the government they were saving the country money by sharing offices, then they went on their own and cost the country more money and the government more grief,” the premier stated, causing a comedy moment in the otherwise long and dry work of tidying up government expenditures.

Do they merit having an office? What have they done for Cayman? Seems like they spend most of their time at home, or for some, in bars!!!

I really don’t get it. I know Anthony Eden and most of the time he is home, so why all these extra costs ?

That’s BS. Winston Connolly never shared the PPM office. He and Roy McTaggart had their own office in Elizabethan Square with their own allowance and the two of them shared those expenses. When they fired their PA they shut down their office and had no office. At no time did these two share in the PPM allowance.

If their concerns were listened to and acted on they would probably still be with the PPM. They were not head nodding ” yes” all the time so they did not fit into their little cartel.

You mean that while the 3 Gentlemen were serving the PPM Administration , they had no constituency expenses . That sounds like he didn’t allow them to have a proper Office for them to serve their constituency while on the PPM party .
But to arrogantly say once they crossed the floor that their constituency expenditure went up makes really wonder about that man .

Clearly you did not read the article properly or you didn’t understand it.
      Let me break it down
      1. When they were part of the PPM government, their constituency allowance would have been less because they shared the same office space so despite multiple people being in the same office space, the rent was not per person.
Similarly other expenses were a flat fee rather than per person.
      2. When they left the government, they would be entitled to office space so they would have to pay a separate rent from their former party members.

So it is not arrogant for the Premier to say that their expenses went up, it is simple Math and common sense.

New Caymanian , why couldn’t they continue to share the same office after ? Your explanation sounds like how spoiled rotten brat kids live , not full grown Politicians. If that office was good while in the party , what’s wrong with them continuing to use the same office. But things like that is the reasons why they can’t work together for the benefits of the Islands .

After they crossed over to the opposition do you really believe that the PPM would allow them to share office space with them?. The Premier should have spoken about how much he is costing the government. We are not getting value for money on him. He spends all of his time plotting!!
