(CNS): A 15-year-old boy from West Bay pleaded guilty to a serious charge in the Grand Court Friday. The teenager, who cannot be named because of his age, stabbed another 15-year-old boy in the chest outside Burger King on the West Bay Road last month. The boy admitted wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and was remanded in custody until a sentencing hearing in September after the court ordered a social inquiry report.

The young victim suffered a collapsed lung as a result of the attack by the other boy. They are said to be known to each other.

He was stabbed in the chest! The charge should be attempted murder! They are reducing the sentence because he is 15 yrs old but that other boy could have very much died!

Attempted murder should be the charge! That was not a simple wounding with intent!

I have been saying the governments needs to invest in a boot camp. Right now a student is either suspended in school (which they love cause they don’t go to classes) or sent home (most are then able to start their criminal career early). Students should have 2 choices. Stay in school or be sent to boot camp with officers brought it from abroad. Most of the students nowadays have no respect for people in authority and are the bosses at home. How can the school system help students who when their parents are called the parents response is “well I don’t know what to do with him/her as well”. So if the parents are unable to discipline their children how can they expect the school to do so?

Good on the teenage for admitting guilt. We see adults all the time pleading not guilty when we all know different.

This is a good start to his rehabilitation, accepting responsibility.

Admission in face of overwhelming evidence to reduce sentence. No credit there. Rehabilitation is a myth of liberal criminologists. Prison should be to keep scum like him away from good law abiding people, pure and simple.

How? the MLAs can do everything in their power to prevent youth violence but children are gonna stray. THAT IS LIFE. they are not able to control everything!

More like the parents (or sperm & egg doners). What should the MLA’s do? Castrate these boys at 15 to keep them calm like is done with male cattle?

FREE CONDOMS for everyone. Reduce uncared for children.

Parents failing to monitor/raise their kids. Very saddening to think that it is another individuals fault.

The MLAs are not responsible to raise other people’s children.

No, but they are responsible for the failure of the authorities to enforce the Maintenance Law.

We need to change the currency of respect and power with our disenfranchised “at risk” youth. Many minds are contaminated with the mistaken belief that outrageous violence will contribute to their social stock and move them up some imaginary ladder of acclaim. In actuality, no gangsters achieve anything resembling “wealth” in their lifetimes, and most wind up either dead by some untimely means, or serving long unfulfilling sentences in correction facilities. There should be school trips to the prison so they can see how horrific it is in there. Scare them straight before they meander into irreversible disaster by choice.

Stop importing child criminals from other countries. Check some of the incidents and their originality.

I was with you up until the “scaring them straight” part. Apparently the majority of kids who take part in these programs end up going to prison.

I’m assuming the fear of not knowing what goes on in prison is what stops most people.

Free condoms will help to prevent UNWANTED pregnancies, but is of no use when someone wants to have a baby for a gangsta!

Just because you have a baby for what you call “gangsta” does not mean a goddamn thing! A child can be raised by the most innocent parents and still stray! YOU SOUND IGNORANT!

Omg! If any country needs intervention by a good team leader in the Child Protection Service, Cayman certainly does. 99% of crimes are carried out by young people. Youngsters that are going to serve time for these horrendous crimes at Her Majesty’s Pleasure. What a waste of young lives! As for the poor victims,
their lives will never be the same. Is there something in these kids genes for them to act in this aggressive nature? Is it bad parenting? A lack of education? Government, this REALLY needs to be addressed. The place is getting out of hand from petty to very serious crimes. Murders, stabbings, armed robberies. People dying on the roads through aggressive driving. Where have you all gone wrong? Slow down your speed, cut out the drugs, pace yourselves in consuming alcohol and Government put a Vocational Training Programme in place to give these youngsters a start in life. They are bored! They need to stimulate their minds and have an incentive to be good citizens and Keep them out of trouble.

We will never know if law enforcement continues to neither understand the distinction nor even ask the question! Even if the punk is not Caymanian but applies for status in the future, the police will withhold the fact of any conviction from the Board.

They should have learned with Damien Ming. Still not, it seems.
