Rubis gas station on Walkers Road

(CNS): Two masked men armed with handguns robbed the Walker’s Road Rubis gas station in George Town early Friday morning. Police said that the robbers smashed their way into the gas station store just before 1:3oam. They took an undisclosed quantity of cash from the register before fleeing on foot along a pathway behind the station towards Windsor Park. CNS understands that customers as well as staff were in the store at the time but no one was hurt.

This is not the first time this gas station has been robbed by armed men.

CNS has contacted the police and David Wight, the PPM candidate for George Town West who owns the station along with his twin brother Chris Wight, to get more details, including descriptions of the suspects, and we are awaiting a response.

The matter is under investigation by the CID and anyone with has information is asked to call the George Town Police Station CID at 9494222 or 949 7777 or 800 TIPS to remain anonymous.

More results of the past 16 years of leadership by both parties, the PPM and the UDP, currently the CDP, still wondering why they changed their name? And as elections are upon us again, they are talking about how the other government failed. In my opinion, they both failed!!! Time to stop this attitude and backward thinking of hand outs for votes. Wake up people and let us change the ones that is not doing anything to benefit the country as a whole!!! Let us get education and youth programs in full acceleration, vocational training, trade schools, everything to get us back on track. Remember our decision on election day, will haunt us or help us for the next four years. Just something to think about as crime escalates!! EDUCATION, EDUCATION, EDUCATION.

Very sad for all of us and the business people need to now wake up! You’re not going to be immune to the criminal activity because you grinning in face of those you judge as criminals!

You want Cayman back? Send people back after contract is up especially in unskilled jobs in fact should be a moratorium on them since too many want more than they can get or need

All these ignoramuses blaming the PPM for everything seems they would prefer greed and corruption as an alternative to stable economic growth and political integrity.

Not the point. Why does the ppm not tackle and confront the issues? They are obvious and solveable.

      1. Enforce the Immigration Law (including the Caymanian Protection Provisions) which effectively mean if you are not good for Cayman and for Caymanians you must stay away, or leave, and if you are good for Cayman and Caymanians we welcome you and embrace you with open arms.

      2. Require civil servants to have work permits like every other expat. The two systems create create injustices and plainly reduce opportunities for the training and advancement of civil servants. Future civil servants should be hired with private sector pension and health arrangements.

      3. Change the management of and approach to education. Reintegrate schools. If you have to fire some teachers and bring in people from the first world to provide the best results for our children and the future, do it.

The ppm have failed in all of these aspects. I am not saying the alternatives would be better (they wouldnt be) but why the hell is NOONE doing what needs to be done.

    Create a proper bus service:
    1) Less money spent on new roads and repairs
    2) Don’t need to buy a car
    3) Less road rage
    5) Less accidents, less loss of life
    6) Less corruption (licensing)
    7) Calmer life style
    8) Society integrates more from contact with other foreigners
    9) Gov’t owned ,no competition
    10) No speeding
    11) Less prisoners
    12) Better immigration ( social contact better choices)
    13) Cheaper cost of living
    14) I’m sure if you are truthful to yourself you can see a lot more solutions that can be had by a proper bus service. The service should have never stayed private. The previous racing by competition trying to make money was never going to work. How stupid were the powers that be to have allowed this to go on for so long? We need control of the pubic service without corruption.

Chech how man bus/drivers are born and breed locals. They bring their culture with them and we accept. The majority of them should not be allowed to provide the service to the public. Those seem drivers should be prosecuted for indecent exposure for urinating on the side of the road. The proof is having pictures.

I think its time to throw some serious cash at education (schools and colleges) and crime. both are linked. lack of education creates crime as they need to eat! better control on immigration of low cost labor which is obviously needed in cayman but there needs to be tighter controls. Its a riot out there and putting police on the streets is the only way. build a new police HQ with over night cells for petty traffic offences and this will stop. you get done for speeding, have an outstanding warrant…oops lets lock you up for the night until your lawyer turns up and you get bailed. $500 bail and it will soon stop. people will think twice. bigger jails, more police….its the only way. armed robbery is happening EVERYDAY people.

And planned parenthood. Unwanted pregnancies become unwanted children which become neglected adolescents which become delinquent teenagers which become criminals in adulthood.

Children having children has been a problem in the region for years and years. Its difficult to blame parents for how they bring up their child when often they are still a child themselves.

Government spends more per student, in the aggregate then the private schools charge per student, in tuition. We waste enough money on the schools to send all of those students to Prep or Catholic. The problem is a culture of failure, starting at the doorstep of way too many public school parents. My God, do you know how many third world, married in, English as a second language, children there are? Yeah, yeah, I am a racist, blah blah blah.

My child goes to public, specifically JGHS, and it is sad. Over regulated, over worked caring educators, stuck in a babysitting service for do nothing parents and spinelesss politicians. Give them more money? I think not. Money won’t cure what ails this system. Open it up to all children on the Island, then at least you’ll get a better mix of economic classes. Because right now, the only reason anyone sends their child to JGHS is because they cannot afford to do otherwise.

I feel sorry indeed for the Wight brothers and indeed every business person, together with residents and tourists alike that have suffered at the hands of these low life’s who are too lazy to do an honest days work and Who think they are going to continually get away with these crimes. No deed goes unpunished one way or another. These kind of scum are robbing their own people and in turn will rob this beautiful island of its economy I.e. Tourism. Let’s not forget, tourism keeps this island and it’s people in employment. Whether it be in hotels, restaurants, diving, airlines, the list is endless! If this continuous crime carries on the way it is no tourist will want to set foot on these tropical shores. Who are you going to rob then?

Bet I can take a stab at the descriptions of the two robbers: Both dark skin, one approx 6 feet, the other approx 5 feet 8 inches. Probably dressed in dark clothing. Most likely the same two robbers with that description who have robbed many places over the past three years. Yet no arrest!!!! These two men work as a team!!

Better check security companies or even RCIP rosters to see who matches those descriptions and were off duty during those robberies!!

You must not realise the state of which the Phillipines are in because of that idiot coke head leader they have.

Do yourself a favor and think before you reply to things like this. You might want to look up the state of Phillipines and how many innocent people have been murdered since their coke head leader gave the order to kill potential drug addicts.

Don’t know if that would be the righ approach, but I do believe that immigration must at the top of the list. We have enough poor people here now. Added a whole slew permanently when we granted status.

If we are to be an industry leader in anything, it will take educated people. Allow those that are educated to come.

Christ help us if CDP is put back in charge of the Government. Their leader tends to believe you can only build a country with the poor from one particular place. And that’s because he believes they will be loyal to him politically.
