(CNS): Police are on the hunt for a masked armed robber who escaped with an undisclosed sum of cash early Thursday morning after robbing Reflections Food 4 Less on MacLendon Drive in George Town. The RCIPS said that a man with his face covered and armed with what appeared to be a handgun entered the shop and demanded cash. The 911 centre was called a few minutes later, just after 4am today (11 May).

The robber made off in the direction of the Mango Tree Bar and Restaurant on Crewe Road. No shots were fired and no one was harmed in the incident.

Police said the witnesses described the robber as about 5’5” tall, with a light brown complexion. He was wearing a black shirt over his head and a cap on his head.

The incident is now under investigation by detectives in George Town CID. Anyone with information is asked to call the George Town Police Station at 949-4222. Anonymous tips can be made to the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777, the Miami-based call centre of Crime Stoppers at 800-8477(TIPS), or online here.

The headline is very misleading as it was NOT the liquor store that was robbed…

To all u who think firearms are the answer ask who ever you plan to vote for their position on this matter and hold them to it if they give u a favorable reply. If they do not live up to their word do not vote for them ever again.

I am not blaming the shop owner but if he is going to be open 24hrs, he could invest in cameras and customers have to be buzzed in. Surely you would not buzz in anyone that you cannot see their face clearly or it is covered in any way.
I don’t think them having a gun as well is wise. More than likely could end up in a gun fight, bullets flying everywhere and innocent patrons being hurt or killed.
The owner of this store has had his businesses robbed so many times, thought he would figure out by now how to protect his business and and staff.

1:32pm, what would be your solution to the problem ? My solution would be if you are coming into the door of my store with a gun and your face covered , you would stay in the doorway .

Ops need to clear out the trash in that nehiborhood and stop the ,music past 10pm without people having to call in -a little proaction goes a long way.

Imagine, all of this can be avoided if they legalise cannabis. Dummies.

How is legalizing cannabis relevant to a store being robbed? -__-

I think you don’t really know what you’re talking about. 1 point though, for knowing what you want.

Legalising cannabis?? Are you insane??? That’s half the trouble on this island is drug abuse!! You think it may be a mild drug, a bit of recreational fun, but people get paranoia with it and it leads to other drugs. I, and my parents, grandparents and many people have gone through life, and through wars without any drugs in their body. Why on earth can’t these kids of today?
They need to be educated of the dangers of such things, how lives are ruined with drugs and ultimately, early deaths and heartbreak for their families. It’s a scurge on this island!!
A stiffer control on immigration is required, more coastguard patrol to help protect any illegal firearms/drugs entering our shores and hopefully our new Commissioner can have the funding and the interest of young Caymanians to recruit more officers to protect our Islands.
The daily armed robberies is getting way out of hand and unbelievable for such a small island. People are carrying these weapons as a matter of course on their day to day activities. Thankfully, a few have been caught by vigilant officers. A right to stop and search should be favoured by all law abiding citizens.

I only recently realized the extent to which drug abuse has gone, not just here but every so called civilized nation…white collar, blue collar, builders you name it. Somehow it’s becoming acceptable behaviour, which it is clearly not…education is needed

Cannabis itself is no drug. It is a unique flowering type plant. Be specific dear elightened one. The effects of various cannabis strains even vary also.

Perhaps, you will elect to stay on chemical/plant hybrid based pharmaceuticals and obey propagandas fuel to your ignorance of the illusive but destructive side effects.

Have you heard of Flakka & do you prefer this? or just good old legal Liquor – similar internal damage with/without the crazy after show?

The natural way is the only way forward dear friend…medicinally and recreationally if at all.

And what are they going to pay for the cannabis after they consume so much that they will have no ambition to work???? who is the dummy?

This is the kind of crime that Premier is talking about reducing by60% . Why did he let the crime and guns get to this stage in the last 4 years ? Stop talking about what you would do if you’re re-elected , all you know how to do is get construction projects approved , and bail your friends out .

Problem is Cayman is a country where all the criminals have their rights protected by the same Government and Police that are supposed to be protecting us. So no registered and legal guns are going into the hands of legal law abiding citizens. Same old story of the wolves feeding on the sheep. RCIPS will always be glad to come and take a report. SOSDD

Business owners should be allowed to protect their company. They should be allowed to carry licensed fire-arms. It’s a free-for-all for these criminals….

They will re-think any form of crime when faced with a hollow-point or 12-guage.

I never said it was the answer and end all. But it is a temporary solution.

You can’t remove all the unlicensed weaponry off the island in a week. SO, think about it….

I will make myself clear to you 11:49am. I believe in law abiding citizens having the right to own a licensed fire-arm. I will not be changing that view; if you remove licensed fire-arms from decent people and are left with only criminals having them, what do you think happens then?

If you’re selling booze at 4am on a Thursday, more than likely the customer is thinking that he is in a Liquor 4 Free store.
