(CNS): A woman was attacked by a person armed with a knife on Tuesday morning in the grounds of her own apartment complex. An RCIPS spokesperson said that patrols in the Shores area of West Bay, where the crime took place, have been increased and police are asking residents to be vigilant. According to the report, a person came up behind the victim and began to choke her. The attacker, who had a knife, pushed her to the ground but the woman fought back and the person ran off.

Police said the only description of the attacker is that the person was wearing dark clothing with a white cloth covering their face. Although a frightening experience, the victim was not injured in the attack.

Police said they are investigating the incident and have increased their presence in the area.

Residents are asked to be aware of their surroundings and to report any suspicious activity or individuals to the West Bay Police Station at 949-3999. Anyone who may have information about this incident is urged to call George Town CID at 949-4222.

Simply interview women who feel threantened and give them the right by law to have licensed pepperstrays and tasers on their persons. Apply this prevelege only for women and weak members of our society. Its that simple folks!

maybe escalation from that kid on the bike who had been sexually assaulting women exercising in the morning?

I sure hope it wasn’t people coming to West Bay from Red Bay. Red Bay scares me.

For the sake of accuracy, in my opinion it appears as though this incident did not actually take place within the Shores neighborhood, rather it was near the Shores. There are no apartments in the Shores.

Never the less this is a frightening experience for anyone. Congratulations to the victim for escaping physically unharmed. Unfortunately unless we want to live in a police state where every movement of every individual is tracked by camera, face recognition software, automobile tracking, credit card purchase tracking, DNA tracing etc, we will experience these types of crimes. Unfortunately none of the above devices or government programs can fully eliminate attacks on unsuspecting citizens. Just ask a Chicagoan.

Description? Policing in cayman is laughable at this point

The police can only give the public information as it is given to them by victims/witnesses…..

      • La-La Land says:

No 5:15pm. They must actually do work to solve cases. Not all cases will have eye witnesses. Therefore, evidence must be collected….of course we know all too well they don’t like to do this.

As someone who personally knows many hard working RCIP’s, I find your comment ignorant and offensive. There are good workers and bad workers in all organisations, but I feel very sorry for the RCIP when people like you paint them all with the same negative brush. Thankfully, the RCIP I do know don’t let comments like yours affect their dedication to the community.

          • La-La Land says:

It has been proven time and time again that RCIPS officers do not hold thorough and efficient investigations. How many times has a Judge reprimanded the lot of you for sloppy work and/or contaminating evidence.

Kudos to you if you know hard-working, honest officers, who lead by example, do their job and protect the citizens of this Country; however, as most of the public will tell you, we do not feel safe or protected by the lot of you.

You are not all the same, this is true, but for the most part; the lot of you don’t care about the citizens of this Country or the ones from which you hail!

If you do not fall in this category, then ask yourself why are you offended by my post…

Right, all those cases that go to court, like the gang bangers in the murder case that got 34 and 35 years, and that PA to Connolly who was cleverly caught based on the mobile phone evidence, and that status scammer who has been sentenced to 14 years (but I suppose you don’t care about his victims because they come from somewhere else), yes, all those recent cases you can’t seem to remember, plus the fact that the prison is bursting at the seams, yes, right, the cops are doing nothing. Unfortunately, it is YOU, La-La Land, who, like many mediocre minds on this island and everywhere else, just looks for whatever news confirms your own rigid biases and conveniently ignores the rest. The only thing that will address the social problems on this island and everywhere else are people who are willing to do something rather than blame, blame, blame police, teachers and social workers and actually get involved and be productive. As Obama said, hey, have you ever actually talked so someone outside your self-reinforcing bubble? How about sitting down with a police officer or teacher and getting their point of view??

              • La-La Land says:

I don’t ignore social issues in my Country. Rather I have learnt from my peer’s own mistakes….like having several children for different “boys” around the island and being a plague on society by not holdings a job or being independent.

I hold a full time job and pay my own mortgage and bills whilst being qualified and educated.

I assist with programs after-school for free and I treat my neighbors with the respect they deserve by not ever playing loud music, holding “sessions” etc..

You don’t want anyone criticizing your fellow officers because the truth hurts. There is no reason why citizens cannot express their opinions of Law enforcement officers.

You need not be offended; this is not a personal ploy against you.

With all do respect 2:23pm, the cops on the street are not the same as the cops who work under-cover and who are proper detectives. They are very different. So naturally, how the white-collar crimes are handled are much better than the average blue-collar crimes here in Cayman. Have to agree with La-La Land.

I’m still waiting for a call to tell me about the evidence they collected from my home invasion 3 years ago.

    was he black or white?

Unfortunately, the description doesn’t even specify that the attacker was male. It is so vague that it is less than worthless and leaves suspect everyone that cannot prove they were somewhere else.

  11. Anonymous says:

That description covers nearly all gardening staff, builders and road workers in Cayman. Sympathy to the lady involved, do not lose your faith in humankind as a result, although I understand the shock you must be feeling well.

What time of morning? More details would be helpful.

The time of morning would be helpful. Those that have security cameras can review their recordings around that time before they are erased.
