Police name West Bay man killed in boating accident

(CNS): The RCIPS has now released the identity of the man who died following a boating accident on New Year’s Day. He was Dale Gerald Ebanks (49) of West Bay. According to the police, Ebanks was one of two people testing a vessel in the North Sound at around 6:15pm when there was a steering failure. He was thrown overboard and struck by the boat. The crew of another vessel brought both men to shore and Ebanks was taken to the George Town hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries early Monday.

Police said the incident is under investigation by the Joint Marine Unit and the RCIPS extended their condolences to the family of the victim.

    Very sad to hear about this tragic accident. Dale was a great man who was always friendly, smiling and willing to help anyone who needed it. My condolences to his family – I only knew him through work, but he will definitely be missed.

    What a great guy Dale was. He had a sense of humor like no other. Government has lost a great employee. R I P.

    True tragedy and a great loss to the community. I was able to meet him on several occasions and he was a great guy. I offer my condolences to his wife and other family members and friends. May we cherish his memory and have a moment of silence to honor his contribution of hard work to the community in which he lived.
